The scenery is stunning and picturesque, with every spot being highly photogenic; any photo taken is a beautiful shot. However, hidden risks lie beneath this great beauty. The mountain weather is unpredictable, with sunshine, rain, and snow changing in an instant. During this trip, we encountered sudden weather changes three times, narrowly avoiding risks from storms and hail, which still makes me shudder when I think about it. It also made me realize that when visiting mountain scenery, one must always pay attention to weather changes and take timely precautions in case of severe weather. Xinjiang is rich in produce and fragrant with fruits, with countless fresh fruits, vegetables, and local flavors along the way. It is worth noting that local prices are calculated by the kilogram. During the trip, you can buy and taste them on the spot without needing to stock up. You can also have your favorite local specialties mailed home via e-commerce, which is very convenient. For this family trip, the private car and guide arrangement was particularly suitable, as it fully accommodated the pace of the elderly and children, offering freedom and comfort far superior to regular group tours. At the same time, I truly felt that the cost of tourism in Xinjiang is relatively high, especially the expenses for hotel accommodation. 1️⃣ Quanzhou|Fujian In Quanzhou during the Mid-Autumn Festival, it's still summer during the day, with autumn colors only appearing in the evening. For Qingyuan Mountain, it's recommended to go early, before 7 am. There will be almost no one at Lao Jun Rock, and the morning light will bathe the stone statue in a warm yellow glow. From the summit, you can overlook the old town, with its rows of red-brick houses. The sea breeze blowing in from the Jinjiang River estuary is cooler than air conditioning. When descending, don't go through the main gate; take the path around Qianshou Rock. Along the way, you can see several cliff carvings, their inscriptions faded but still recognizable, including Zhu Xi's inscription "Jiuri Mountain". Visit Kaiyuan Temple in the afternoon; the shadows of the East and West Pagodas will be very long. Sit under the ancient banyan tree for a while, and you can hear the copper bells ringing from the eaves. Chongwu Ancient City is an hour's drive from the city center. It's recommended to stay in one of the stone house guesthouses by the sea and watch the sunset from the city wall in the evening. The fishing boats returning to port and the lights coming on one by one is ten times more beautiful than during the day. ⚠️ The few "old-brand" ginger duck stalls near the Quanzhou Tianhou Temple are a bit pricey for tourists. Locals prefer the one at the end of Xinmen Street, where the duck is braised until tender, and one serving is enough for two. 🍜 Be sure to add vinegared pork and fried egg to the rice noodle soup, and pair it with fried dough sticks. The street stalls are most delicious around midnight. 2️⃣ Nanning|Guangxi Nanning is still 30 degrees Celsius during the Mid-Autumn Festival, so don't expect autumn. However, the humid heat with the aroma of fruit is quite pleasant. Enter Qingxiu Mountain around 4 PM when the sun is less intense. Walk along the trail to Guanyin Temple, where you'll see bougainvillea and mango trees hanging from the branches. From the mountaintop platform, you can see the Yong River turning, and the city unfolds below. The evening light is perfect for portrait photography. Fubo Temple is in Hengxian County, two hours from the city center. The temple isn't large, but it's quiet. The incense is continuously burned by locals, and there are very few tourists. If you only have three days, I recommend staying near Chaoyang Square. There are many subway stations nearby, and you can walk to Zhongshan Road Night Market in the evening. ⚠️ The sightseeing bus at Qingxiu Mountain stops running at 5:30 PM, so don't stay out too late. 🍜 For Lao You Fen (a type of rice noodle soup), I recommend Shu Ji. The pickled bamboo shoots are cooked to perfection, the broth is rich, and a bowl costs 12 yuan, which is more affordable than those trendy chain stores. People in Nanning like to burn pomelo peels to repel mosquitoes during the Mid-Autumn Festival; the streets are filled with the smell of pomelo peels and incense, which is quite pleasant. If you're traveling with children, you can visit the moonlit lantern festival at Nanhu Park, a popular spot for locals to stroll. It's free, and the atmosphere is more authentic than tourist attractions. 3️⃣ Tonghua|Jilin Autumn comes early to Tonghua. By the Mid-Autumn Festival, the maple leaves on the mountains are already 30% red, so you'll need a light jacket in the mornings and evenings. The Goguryeo relics and historical sites around Ji'an city are most worth seeing: the General's Tomb and the Stele of King Gwanggaeto. These stone-built royal tombs stand silently amidst cornfields, their timeless grandeur more awe-inspiring than any museum. It's recommended to visit the General's Tomb first in the morning, when the sidelight illuminates the stone walls, highlighting the intricate textures. In the afternoon, visit Wandu Mountain City; a walk along the city wall offers views of the Yalu River across the river. Don't have high expectations for the rapeseed flower fields in Ji'an; by Mid-Autumn Festival, they've already passed their peak bloom, leaving only a few scattered patches of yellow-green. However, the open space is perfect for cycling, with the scent of rice wafting in the air. ⚠️ Buses from Ji'an to Tonghua city are infrequent, mostly stopping after 3 PM. Driving is more convenient. Mid-Autumn Festival coincides with the early blooming of autumn leaves, so it's less crowded and perfect for a stroll. 4️⃣ Bijie|Guizhou Zhijin Cave is the kind of place you'll never forget after just one visit. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 16 degrees Celsius; even though it's still hot outside during Mid-Autumn Festival, entering the cave feels like stepping into a natural air-conditioned room. The entire walk takes about 40 minutes. The path is slippery, so wear non-slip shoes and avoid sandals. The stalactites inside the cave are illuminated like a crystal palace, but it's more understated than commercialized caves, without flashy projection shows. ⚠️ Tickets for Zhijin Cave must be booked online one day in advance. Buying tickets on-site is risky, especially during holidays. The Baili Rhododendron Scenic Area isn't in bloom this season, but the Baili Rhododendron Grass Sea in September presents a different scene altogether. The buckwheat flowers along the grassland create a vast expanse of pink and white, rippling like waves in the wind. Weining Caohai Lake is best visited in the evening. At sunset, the lake surface is bathed in gold, and migratory birds begin to gather. By Mid-Autumn Festival, you can already see the first batch of red-billed gulls.
