If you come here, try experiencing the joy of woodblock printing yourself. My initial visit left a deep impression, and this Jiangxi intangible cultural heritage trip (which also included Wuyuan, Yanshan, Yingtan, and other places) gave me a new understanding of Jiangxi (to be shared in another post). Front Bookstore Street & Back Bookstore Street: The essence of the ancient town. Two parallel bluestone alleys, once bustling streets lined with bookstores. The deep wheel ruts on the ground are testament to the books transported throughout the country. China Printing Museum: Located within the ancient town, admission is free. If you are interested in woodblock printing, you can even try your hand at printing a page from an ancient book and take the ink fragrance home. Fuhe Ancient Wharf: The ancient town prospered because of the water, and was once a hub for merchants. Walk along the river, watch the shimmering water, and feel the former glory of "the commercial port of eastern Jiangxi." Guanyin Pavilion: Built in the early Qing Dynasty, it's a landmark building in the ancient town and one of the recommended entrances. Enter through the "Renli" archway, and the streets and alleys begin around the corner. Leisurely Half-Day Tour: The ancient town is small; a complete walk around the core area takes about 2-3 hours. You can enter through the "Renli" archway of Guanyin Pavilion and stroll through the front and back bookstore streets and Lijia Alley, experiencing the former glory of "Born of China." Finally, enjoy the breeze by the Fu River, visit the ancient wharf, and have a peaceful afternoon. In-Depth One-Day Tour: Spend the morning exploring the ancient town of Huwan, and in the afternoon, you can drive to the nearby Youdian Ancient Village (about a 20-minute drive). Youdian Ancient Village is the hometown of Hu Guifang, a Ming Dynasty official in charge of the Ministry of Works. His study was named "Cun," earning him the title "Master Cunzhai." He was also known as "Master Xiangshan" because he taught at the Xiangshan Academy (now located in southwest Guixi, Jiangxi), and scholars often referred to him as "Lu Xiangshan." He was a prominent Neo-Confucian philosopher of the Southern Song Dynasty, the founder of the School of Mind, and the pioneer of the Lu-Wang school of thought.
