I was about halfway up, near the Weeping Wall, when I heard the dreaded hissss. A shard of volcanic rock had sliced my rear tire sidewall. I was stranded on a narrow shoulder with 100-foot drop-offs to my left and a line of RVs crawling behind me. A cyclist coming downhill, a local from Kalispell, stopped.
