💙 I've always longed for the blue Turkey along the Mediterranean coast, so I specially reserved two days in the town of Kaş. This decision allowed us to see two different but equally beautiful Kaş towns. 🚗 Transportation: Fly directly from Istanbul to Dalaman Airport, then rent a car for self-driving. After staying one night in Fethiye, drive about 2 hours along the D400 highway to Kaş town. 🌊 From Fethiye to Antalya, it is recommended to travel clockwise. You can drive on the seaside outer lane, making it convenient to stop by for sightseeing and photos anytime. Beautiful check-in spots include: 1️⃣ Bougainvillea by the sea 📍 Navigate to Kaptan Pansiyon 🌸 The bougainvillea is right in the alley opposite it. Walk uphill from the main road, and on the left side facing the sea, you will see an alley full of blooming bougainvillea. At the end is the jelly shining under the sun, and there are also napping cats in the alley. This peaceful moment probably means the beauty of life. 2️⃣ Stroll slowly along the coastline of the bougainvillea old street. There are many wonderful restaurants worth staying to appreciate the beauty of life. 3️⃣ Kaputas Beach 📍 Kaputas Beach, beside the D400 highway, about 20 km from Kaş town, between Kaş and Kalkan. ☀️ Sunny version: A jelly sea spilled by God! The water is crystal clear glass blue, gradually changing to mint green, breathtakingly beautiful! ☁️ Cloudy version: On cloudy days, it instantly turns into a high-end movie scene, with low-pressure clouds, the sea turns into deep dark green, and huge waves almost swallow you, but full of vitality, haha. 🍀 Here, busy people start to feel how justified it is to waste time at this moment. We work hard just to be able to waste our lives in these beautiful places. Doing nothing seems to have all the meaning. Patara Beach near Kaş is where a beach visit turns into a full nature-and-history route: an ancient Lycian city, a huge sandy coastline, dunes, open sea, wind, and a protected shore where Caretta Caretta sea turtles come to nest in season. This is a place to plan for at least a half-day, not just a quick swim stop, if you want to see both Patara Ancient City and the beach. Patara Ancient City is an important part of the experience. It was one of the key cities of Lycia, connected with the Lycian League, and during the Roman period Patara remained the capital of the region. In the archaeological site, you can see the theatre, ancient streets, ruins, baths, the parliament building, old stone structures and traces of a city that was once an important port. This is why Patara feels much deeper than a regular beach stop. We drove here from Kaş, and the road takes about 40-45 minutes. Our mistake was not leaving enough time for the archaeological site, so if I went again, I would plan it differently: ancient city first, then dunes and beach. The entrance is currently 15 euro, but check the latest price before going. The beach feels very different from the small bays around Kaş. Here you get wide sand, open space, mountains on the horizon and a wild coastline feeling. We visited at the end of September, and it was very windy, with active waves, so we did not swim. Even without swimming, Patara works as a strong stop: walking, photos, dunes, wind, sea and scale. ✨️ Travel tip: do not plan Patara as a quick beach visit. Give time to the whole complex: ruins, dunes and beach. Bring water, a hat, sunglasses and something for the wind, especially outside the summer peak. If you want to swim, consider the season, wind and waves before going. 🎈 Patara is best for travelers who like places where nature and history come together: ancient Lycia, a long sandy beach, dunes, Caretta Caretta turtles and open sea in one trip. Kaş works best as a base on the Lycian Coast: a small harbor town with a walkable center, old houses, flower-filled streets, a marina, a lighthouse, boat routes, a strong diving scene and mountains rising above the blue water. I would give Kaş at least 2 nights if you want time for both the sea and a slow walk through town. The center is easy and enjoyable to explore on foot. You will find narrow streets, bougainvillea, old facades, souvenir shops, cafes, small squares, monuments and quick access to the harbor. Kaş does not need a strict sightseeing plan: you can simply walk from the flower streets to the marina, then to the lighthouse, then back into town for coffee, dinner or choosing a boat trip. The sea side is one of the main reasons to stay longer. From Kaş, it is easy to take boat trips, routes to Kekova, diving tours, nearby bays, beach clubs and sea platforms. This place is more about clear blue water, boats and active sea plans than one long sandy beach in the center. Kaş also has a historical layer: the modern town stands on the site of ancient Antiphellos. In and around town, you can find Lycian tombs, the King’s Tomb, an ancient theatre and old stone details. It adds depth to a simple walk: you move through everyday streets, but keep meeting traces of ancient Lycia. ✨️ Travel tip: choose accommodation near the center or marina if you want to walk everywhere. Some streets go uphill, parking can be inconvenient, and summer days get hot, so the town feels better in the morning or closer to evening. Keep one day for a boat trip, Kekova, diving or nearby bays, and use the evening for the marina, lighthouse, cafes and old streets. 🎈 Kaş is best for travelers who like small towns with character: harbor views, flowers, old houses, sea, mountains, boats and evening walks. In early January 2026, the weather here was gorgeous - sunny, pleasant breeze, blooming shrubs. Kalkan is about 20-30 minutes away by bus. It has a similar atmosphere to Kas, but in January it was very empty, so we preferred Kas for its liveliness. These small towns are best explored by simply walking around and soaking in the atmosphere. In Kas, besides the old town, I recommend visiting Antiphellos Ancient City (it offers a beautiful view of the town) and climbing up to the Sleeping Giant viewpoint (we didn’t make it all the way, stopping at a large rock along the way, which also offers great views). In Kalkan, stroll along Mustafa Kocakaya Street, Kalkan Atatürk Cad., N5 Street, and Süleyman Yılmaz Street. There’s also a very picturesque seaside area here. We stayed in Kas at CARPEDIEM SUITE HOTEL - the balcony view here is stunning, highly recommended.

Getting to Kas You can get to Kas from two airports – Dalaman and Antalya. However, getting there by public transportation, especially from Dalaman (as there is no public transportation), is problematic: from Antalya Airport, you need to take tram T1A or bus #600 to the bus station. From the bus station, you can travel to Kas. Schedules are subject to change. Therefore, the easiest way to get to Kas from the airport is by booking a transfer. Hotels In Kas, you can book a hotel either in the city or on the peninsula – depending on your needs. If you don't want to spend evenings strolling around the city or visiting cafes, and would rather spend time at the hotel/by the pool/by the sea with a beautiful view, then choose a hotel on the peninsula. However, if you prefer a more active vacation or don't want to constantly spend money on taxis/wait for a bus, I recommend staying in the city proper. In the city, consider the Luna Kas or Hera Hotel, and on the peninsula, the Villa Tamara. However, when choosing a hotel, consider your preferences, reviews, and location. Mobile Communications Buying a physical SIM card isn't cost-effective; an eSIM is easier and cheaper. Consider your budget and needs. Be sure to check if your phone supports eSIM before purchasing. Currency It's best to bring dollars and exchange them for lira in Turkey. DO NOT exchange them at the airport—it's not cost-effective, especially if you don't need public transportation to Kas. The most profitable exchange office in Kas is the SILA Jewelry Store. You can also get a Letim card, but you'll see the commission when you transfer money. Hold and Bite - burgers with truffle sauce Beaches The most important and beautiful beach is Kaputaş (entrance 50 TL, umbrella 230 TL, hammock 230 TL – prices subject to change). It's a 20-25-minute bus ride from the bus station. Halk - Kas belediyesi Halk, or simply Halk, or the public city beach, is free. Located on a peninsula, take the bus from the stop near the mosque. There's plenty of space, a cafe, sun loungers, and umbrellas. The entrance is gently sloping and pebbly. Beach Clubs You can choose a beach club in Kas or go to Kalkan. Almost at the very end of the peninsula, to the left of the Kumsal Hotel, there's an abandoned hotel with a water park (next to Villa Tamara). 4. The amphitheater (to watch the sunset), located at the junction of the peninsula and Kaş. 5. Walk to the new marina. 6. Kaş is an incredibly beautiful Turkish city with a Greek vibe. If you're planning a short trip to this city, I've put together an itinerary for you to spend unforgettable days in this cozy place. Day 1 In the morning, I suggest strolling around the city, exploring its streets, and taking photos on Süleyman Sandıkçı Sk Street, near the harbor. There, near the harbor, are boats moored and people selling excursions. I highly recommend (depending on the price and the boat) taking a boat tour to the sunken city of Kekova, disembarking in Simena. After the walk and lunch, we head to the stop near the mosque and take a bus to the peninsula and Halk Beach. There, we rent an umbrella and a sun lounger to avoid sunburn. In the evening, we dine at a sempati (veal cheeks). Day 2 We'll have breakfast at the hotel and depart in the morning for an excursion to Kekova. A hearty lunch awaits us on the boat (choose between chicken or fish, but I recommend the fish). We'll enjoy the walk, swim in the clear sea, and buy ice cream in Simena. We'll return to the hotel in the late afternoon. We'll have dinner in Ege and buy baklava at Nur Pastaneleri along the way. Day 3 We'll take a bus to Villa Tamara on the peninsula and buy a day pass there. The day pass requires a deposit, so we can use it for both lunch and dinner. We'll enjoy the natural beauty of the Greek island, the sea, and the pool. We'll take beautiful, memorable photos. As sunset approaches, we'll head to an abandoned water park to catch the sun. Day 4 In the morning, we'll go to the bus station and head to Kaputas Beach. Entrance, sun loungers, and umbrellas are not included, but they're not very expensive. We'll swim and have lunch. Don't forget to take a photo of the beach from above before we descend the steps. After lunch, we'll return to the hotel, rest, and in the late afternoon, prepare for the climb up the mountain (the climb takes a little over an hour, the descent about 40 minutes). We'll enjoy the view of Kaş from above. We'll return and have dinner at Masuk. Day 5 Wake up for yoga ;) Free yoga at the Luna Las Hotel on certain days.
