Mistake: I paid €5 for Desmond Castle expecting Charles Fort scale — wrong fort, wrong expectation. Charles Fort (€5 too, 20 min drive/walk south) is the big star-shaped one; Desmond Castle is a quick add-on. Another mistake: doing Scilly Walk clockwise at midday — the marsh midges and the west glare off the water are rough; counterclockwise from 4 pm gives the town behind you and the harbor mouth ahead.
