It is a fifteen minute drive from Kyle of Lochalsh railway station and is within walking distance of Eilen Donan Castle. The cafe serves coffee and superb baked goods. The scenery surrounding the cafe is superb. For those who savour a long walk with views across the estuary and a trek through forest and higher moor land I recommend two circular walks either side of the bridge. They can be done separately as short walks if pushed for time or if you are up for a more energetic walk the Plock and Kyleakin Loop can be completed in about 3 hours. Stout walking shoes or hiking boots recommended as the terrain particularly near the beach or in coastal areas can be uneven underfoot. Walking poles will aid your balance on paths with steep ascents and descents. The Plock is a small stretch of coastal area with lots of paths to explore. It's a haven for wildlife. This is the place to look for Otters. Take a stroll through the wild flower meadows or explore hidden rocky coves. The beaches are quite wild and require good footing. The Plock is a great place to explore. It is owned by the Kyle and Lochalsh Community Trust who have developed access for the benefit of locals and visitors alike. Terrain Straightforward walking; the short loop near the start is an all-abilities path; parts of the other paths are less formal and can be boggy in places.

#holidayitinerary On the 10th day of our UK journey, we reached the magical Isle of Skye and spent three days and two nights immersed in the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Driving across Skye Bridge, we headed straight for Neist Point, famed for its dramatic cliffs and iconic lighthouse — it even graced the cover of Lonely Planet UK! The wind was intense (literally blowing us sideways), so do dress warmly and tread carefully. Day 2 brought us to the mystical Fairy Glen, best visited early for easier parking and clean photo ops. Then came the Quiraing, where we took the shorter loop — a stunning yet physically demanding trail, especially in gale-force winds. After that, Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls offered the perfect quick stop for scenic photos. Sadly, Old Man of Storr was cut short by a sudden hailstorm! Driving in Skye is a breeze with courteous passing etiquette, though many roads are single-lane. We left the island via a CalMac ferry — booking online in advance is a must during summer. A bridge now connects the Isle of Skye to the mainland. The Kyleakin Loop provides an excellent introduction to the Isle of Skye and the surrounding area. Starting at the Backpackers hostel you can follow the path alongside the estuary keeping the bridge in view. Once you reach the roundabout at the top turn left and the path makes its ascent through woodland. It's a pleasant circular walk, moderately challenging with views of the Skye Bridge, the village of Kyleakin and the Cullin mountains . You can also see the Torridon Mountains in the distance. The walk is 3 km in distance and takes about an hour to complete. The trail can be rugged in places so stout walking shoes and or hiking boots are advisable. This walk is seen as an excellent introduction for first time visitors to the Isle of Skye.

On arrival at the Kyle of Lochalsh I took a bus to the Isle of Skye. It's a couple of miles to the youth hostel aka Skye Backpackers. This hostel offers value for money accommodation to the independent traveller. I wasn't there long enough to explore the island in its entirety but this trip served as a good introduction to Skye and its outstanding natural beauty and breath taking scenery. There's a short easy walk from the hostel to the village of Kyleakin with an optional visit to Casteal Maol. Hiking boots and or stout walking shoes recommended Check tide times; a visit may not be possible at high tide.
