If you have children, the family lane reduces the wait to 20 minutes. With a Swiss passport, visa-free entry is available. 🛃 They didn't ask any questions, just stamped my passport and gave me a PDI receipt (keep this safe; it's tax-free at hotels). The online form requires filling out a declaration form on the SAG website one day in advance and providing a QR code screenshot, but in reality, no one checks. If traveling alone with a child, the process is stricter. You need a permit form from the Chilean embassy, ​​notarized by both parents, and then apostille certified. 🏨 This time, I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental for convenience. I was initially worried it would be too old and uncomfortable, but it turned out to be excellent. The area is safe and affluent, with excellent facilities and service. A five-minute walk away is a large shopping mall and playground, and there are restaurants, cafes, and ice cream shops of all kinds—perfect for families with children. The rooms are spacious with mountain views. Currently, outside of holidays, the price is under $300 USD. (pp. 1-14) Judging by the number of Chinese tourists staying at this hotel, about half of them were there during breakfast. I wonder if they were all waiting to board the Antarctic cruise. 🍽️The hotel's own restaurants are quite good, and the shopping area seems to have a huge variety of shops. The food in Chile is excellent, and the prices are half of those in Switzerland. I also got to try the cherries 🍒, which were indeed delicious and cheap, about 1 euro per kilogram, while the price in Switzerland is 10 times higher. There's a Lanzhou-style noodle shop about 2 kilometers away. 🛍️Parque Arauco: A 5-minute walk from the hotel, it's a huge mall with several interconnected malls, offering everything imaginable, including a cinema, currency exchange, and a stop for the red double-decker sightseeing buses. (pp. 15-16) 🚖Transportation is convenient, and taxis are inexpensive. A ride from the airport to the hotel costs $25. Uber works in the city, but it's not very convenient for getting to the airport. 💰Currency: I rounded down three zeros to get approximately Euros. Apple Pay seems very convenient; I haven't exchanged any money yet. 🛜There's plenty of Wi-Fi, so I haven't needed mobile data yet; there's internet everywhere. ⛅️Climate: December is summer, but there's a big temperature difference between day and night in the mountains. It's around 10 degrees Celsius at night and 20 degrees Celsius during the day. Actually, most of the time it feels a bit chilly, so I've been wearing long pants and long sleeves. In short, I think Chile is the closest region in South America to Europe, especially similar to Spain and Portugal. I think Santiago is great for exploring, eating, and having fun. There are many day tours nearby, so you won't get bored even after a few days. We originally booked a city tour on our first day, but it was canceled because of the election day. The streets looked very empty (p. 17). Time to rest a bit, let the kids finish their homework, and then we can play some more!
