An absolute gem for outdoor exploration and extreme adventures. Right after touching down in Ajaccio, we rented a car 🚙 and hit the road for Cargèse—a drive of about two and a half hours. Along the way, we stopped for lunch at a spot called "Petit Peri." The food was mouthwatering, the prices were super reasonable, and the vibe was totally chill and welcoming. Highly recommend checking it out! Once we rolled into Cargèse, we found our rented apartment was just a stone's throw from the coast, an easy walk right down to the beach 🌊. The glowing sun 🌞, bright blue skies ☁️, and crystal-clear waters created a picture-perfect scene. Taking a dip in the cool ocean during the sweltering heat of summer was pure bliss. The next day, we tracked down a dive club and went for a dive together. A quick heads-up: the club doesn’t provide life jackets, so if you're not a strong swimmer or an experienced diver, you might want to sit this one out. After wrapping up our morning dive, we headed back to our place to recharge before hitting the trails for a hike ⛰. The round trip took about three hours. The honey here has a really unique flavor profile (rich, slightly bitter, yet subtly sweet)—locals say it's their signature local taste. Wrapping up our coastal run, we headed inland to Corte. Tucked deep in the mountains, it trades ocean horizons for its own rugged, mountainous charm. From there, we popped over to Venaco, a totally bite-sized town. We hiked to a nearby waterfall, splashed around, soaked up the vibes, and completely unwound. For our final day, we looped back to Ajaccio and did a mini city tour, just wandering around town. Our hotel was also super close to the airport—just a 30-minute walk to the terminal. Throughout this entire northern road trip, I didn't spot a single other Asian face; I was pretty much the only Asian tourist around. My guess? Blame it on Xiaohongshu (RED) recommendations—most tourists flock to the south and skip the north altogether.

I recently spent some of my leave checking out Bonifacio in Southern Corsica. Working as airline ground staff back in Chiang Mai, I'm used to being on my feet all day, but this place is a whole different level of leg workout. Let’s start with the basics: the location is stunning, no doubt. The old town is built right on the edge of these massive 70-meter white limestone cliffs looking over the Mediterranean. If you like history and old buildings, the medieval vibes here are legit—the town dates all the way back to 830 AD. But here’s the reality: the cobblestone streets are uneven, crowded, and the restaurants in the main tourist squares are overpriced. Do yourself a favor and wander into the quieter side alleys if you want a decent meal without the tourist tax. Now, the main event: the King of Aragon’s Staircase. It’s 187 steps carved directly into the cliff face at a steep 45-degree angle. Here is how the process actually goes: you have to buy a ticket to go down, they hand you a helmet for safety, and then you start the descent. Going down is fine, but remember—what goes down must climb back up. Climbing those steep, narrow steps back up in the heat is brutal. If you have knee issues or hate heights, skip it. You can get equally good views of the cliffs for free by just walking along the hiking paths at the top. Some practical tips if you plan to visit: 1. Wear real shoes. I saw people trying to climb the steps in flip-flops, which is just asking for an accident. The stones are slippery. 2. Buy your water at a supermarket before you head up to the old town. The shops near the cliffs charge ridiculous prices. 3. If you want the best views of the cliffs without the sweat, just take one of the boat tours from the marina. It’s much easier on the legs.

Seriously, if you ever find yourself near Corsica or even Sardinia (it's just a short ferry ride away, you can practically see it), you have to check this out. Truly spectacular.
