AMANVARI Opens at Cape East in Baja California, Mexico
Amanvari officially opened its doors on the Cape East coast of Baja California, Mexico, bringing Aman's signature tranquility, privacy, and intuitive service to this pristine seaside setting.
Located in the Costa Palmas community, Amanvari boasts stunning views of the Sea of Cortés and the coastline. Featuring 18 Casita suites and a limited number of Aman Residences, it offers a private living environment and personalized service.
This opening marks a significant milestone in Aman's continued expansion in the Americas.
Named after the Sanskrit words for "tranquility" and "water," Amanvari is situated at the confluence of ocean, desert, and river mouth, nestled within the natural environment of the Sierra de la Laguna.
With initial support from Heah & Co. and overall design by Elastic Architects, the design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural environment.
A naturally unfolding pathway connects the arrival spaces, the central lagoon, and the distant sandy shore. The stark contrast between desert and azure water is a core design principle throughout; framing techniques are cleverly employed in each space to capture the expansive views where the sea meets the sky at the horizon.
Speaking on the opening, Vlad Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman Resorts, stated, “The unveiling of Amanvari is a significant milestone in Aman’s continued expansion in the Americas. The project, encompassing a resort hotel, Aman Residences, and supporting facilities, introduces the Aman lifestyle to the unique coastal destination of Mexico for the first time. With its exceptional natural environment, ingenious architectural design, spacious layout, and Aman’s signature exceptional service, Amanvari redefines the luxury travel experience at Cape East, Baja California.”
Following this design philosophy, the 18 independent Casita suites are all situated by the water: some suites are elevated at the river mouth, overlooking breathtaking views; others are close to the shore, standing right on the water.
The resort's compact size ensures a highly private stay and meticulous, personalized service. The two-story Casita suites offer panoramic views of the estuary, the Cortez Sea, and the surrounding landscape.
Each Casita suite has an interior area of 82 square meters (883 square feet) and extends to a spacious terrace of up to 200 square meters (1,700 square feet).
The terrace features a 10-meter (32-foot) private heated pool, an outdoor shower, and a fireplace, seamlessly connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces. Warm earth tones from wood and stone blend the space with the surrounding landscape, while hand-painted white exposed concrete showcases Aman's understated yet respectful design approach.
The resort's dining experience combines the rich seasonal produce of Baja California with Aman's global culinary philosophy.
Luma, a beachfront restaurant, draws inspiration from Mexican coastal cuisine, using open-air cooking to present the natural flavors derived from the local terroir. Lounge Bar and The Pool offer a relaxed all-day dining experience, using ingredients sourced from local farms and fisheries, with seasonal fresh produce sourced from across Baja California Southern.
In addition, Aman's signature restaurant, Arva, selects seasonal ingredients to create Italian delicacies, fostering a joyful atmosphere for shared meals around a table; while Sesui offers an authentic Japanese dining experience, featuring 10 omakase seating areas as well as private à la carte dining spaces.
Furthermore, Aman Spa and Wellness Center brings the brand's wellness philosophy to the East Coast, incorporating traditional Mexican healing rituals to help guests restore balance to their mind and body through a holistic approach to wellness.
At the heart of the spa is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Temazcal sauna, Aman's first such wellness experience.
Meanwhile, the spa also features two signature spa facilities, equipped with a traditional Russian sauna and a Turkish bath; six private treatment rooms; a 24-hour fitness center with a multi-functional training room; a beauty salon offering head spa treatments; an outdoor relaxation area; and an open-air yoga pavilion.
To further connect guests with the surrounding natural environment, Amanvari has meticulously curated a series of exclusive experiences. Guests can explore the Laguna Mountains, ride horses along the coast, estuaries, and deserts; sail on private yachts to explore the stunning coral reefs of Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park; or, during select seasons, embark on whale watching tours.
In addition, the Costa Palmas private community, where Amanvari is located, is open to guests. This 1,500-acre private community includes 18 acres of organic farms and orchards, three miles of swimming beachfront, a Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course, and a deep-water marina and yacht club.
Amanvari also offers Aman Residences, providing guests with a long-term residence on the East Cape of Baja California.
Inspired by the surrounding desert and ocean landscapes, Aman Residences echoes these elements with seamlessly integrated indoor and outdoor living spaces, expansive views, and a high degree of privacy. Residents can also experience the Aman lifestyle and enjoy the brand's signature personalized services and exclusive privileges.
