Lungern travel guide and discussion

Tucked away between majestic mountains and overlooking a stunning turquoise lake, Lungern is one of Switzerland’s most beautiful hidden gems. This peaceful alpine village combines breathtaking scenery, traditional Swiss charm, and a sense of tranquility that makes it unforgettable. The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the incredible view of Lake Lungern shimmering beneath the surrounding mountains. The vibrant blue water, lush green meadows, and picture-perfect chalets created a scene that looked straight out of a postcard. 💙 One of the highlights was standing at the famous viewpoint above the village, where the panoramic view of the lake and mountains stretches as far as the eye can see. It is easily one of the most photogenic spots in Switzerland. 🌿 Walking through the village, I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, colorful flower-filled balconies, and the beautiful blend of nature and traditional Swiss life. 🚶 Whether exploring scenic trails, relaxing by the lakeshore, or simply admiring the mountain views, every moment in Lungern felt calm and refreshing. 📸 My favorite memory was watching the sunlight dance across the turquoise water while the surrounding peaks reflected on the lake’s surface. It was one of those views that stays with you long after the journey ends. ✨ Lungern may not be as famous as some Swiss destinations, but its beauty easily rivals the best of them. 📍 Lungern, Obwalden, Switzerland 🇨🇭 “Some places capture your attention. Trains are super convenient 2️⃣ Walk the old town, bring sneakers 👟 3️⃣ Museums close on Mondays, plan accordingly 4️⃣ Prices are high, tap water is drinkable and saves money 💧 💭 My heartfelt experience After seeing countless bloggers focus on snowy mountains, Bern is seriously underrated! While others rush to the usual spots, you can watch the most romantic way to get off work by the Aare River: Swiss people rafting home in inflatable boats 🚣‍♀️ This is life! You want stunning landscapes and everyday warmth—that’s the full Switzerland experience~ And there’s more! Here’s the key takeaway: ✨ Jungfrau + Matterhorn = magnificent nature ✨ Bern = healing culture Make sure to experience both!

Off the beaten path yet classic, avoiding the crowds and soaking in the Alps’ green and blue✨   1️⃣ Lake Lungern (Lungern) “The fairy-tale lake in Tiffany blue” Not as popular as Interlaken, but a hidden alpine gem in central-northern Switzerland loved by locals. The water is as clear as jelly. A slow little train runs along the shore. Wooden houses reflect on the lake, naturally filtered by soft light. Stroll along the lakeside meadows, hear the cowbells ringing, wildflowers covering the hillsides—every snapshot feels like a postcard of healing calm. 📸 Photo spots: wooden boardwalk in the lake center + roadside viewpoint with snow-capped mountains in the background 🌿 Vibe: like stepping into a forgotten town from a Studio Ghibli film, so quiet you just want to daydream   2️⃣ Lake Oeschinen (Oeschinensee) “The emerald secret lake embraced by mountains” A high alpine glacier lake above Kandersteg in the Bernese Highlands, a candidate for world natural heritage with stunning beauty. Take a short cable car ride and a light hike up. The lake shifts from emerald green to deep blue with the changing light, backed by jagged snowy peaks. In summer, locals bring kids to row boats and sunbathe on grassy slopes. In autumn, golden foliage lines the shore, full of wild charm without feeling deserted. ⛰️ Off the beaten path but accessible: smooth transport connections, doable in a half-day trip, friendly hiking difficulty 🌤️ Atmosphere: where snow mountains and lake gaze at each other, cool yet gentle   3️⃣ Weggis — the rose town “The south-facing warm slope on Lake Lucerne” Located along Lake Lucerne’s golden route but much quieter than Lucerne’s old town, known as “Switzerland’s cutest place” (endorsed by Mark Twain). Every balcony is covered in climbing roses, palm trees mix with Alpine views. Arriving by boat feels like stepping into a miniature Riviera. You can leisurely walk along the lakeside path to nearby villages or hike up for panoramic views. The lake breeze carries floral scents over red-roofed wooden houses, pure relaxation. 🌹 Experience: no rush to see sights, just daily life with lake light, roses, and the slow whistle of boats   4️⃣ Mürren “The car-free cliffside aerial village” A hidden village in the Bernese Highlands reachable only by cogwheel train and cable car, completely off-limits to cars, with air filled with grass scent and cowbells. Facing the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks, morning sunlight turns the mountains golden right on your balcony. The village has just a few inns and trails. Walk along the ridge toward Lake Bachalpsee, with a deep valley below and snowy peaks ahead—wild yet safe. 🚠 Atmosphere: like a hanging garden on the mountainside, dark enough at night to see the Milky Way, perfect for a short escape of one or two nights   💡 Short trip tips Central route: combine Lake Lungern + Weggis with a Lake Lucerne boat tour in one day for a seamless lake and mountain experience Bernese Highlands route: combine Lake Oeschinen + Mürren from Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen without backtracking Swiss trains, buses, and boats connect perfectly, so no need to drive. The window views themselves are moving scenic spots~ 📌 Summary: These four places may not be widely known, but their scenery rivals famous landmarks. Together they form a mini collection of alpine lakes, secret lakes, lakeside towns, and cliffside mountain villages. Even short trips can capture 70–80% of Switzerland’s green and snowy beauty🌍

🇨🇭 Switzerland travel guide During our 12 days in Switzerland, we visited famous attractions such as the Matterhorn, Jungfrau, Mount First, Lake Lungern, and the cliff skywalk. Here, I’d like to share some practical tips and sightseeing advice. 📍 Matterhorn The Matterhorn is one of the most famous peaks in the Alps and a proud symbol of Switzerland. It is located in Gruyères, Switzerland, and is a popular climbing destination. The scenery here is spectacular, perfect for capturing sunrise and sunset photos. If you’re interested in mountaineering, you can try climbing this peak. 📍 Jungfrau Jungfrau is one of Switzerland’s most iconic mountains and home to the highest train station in the world. From the summit, you can overlook the magnificent Alps. The Jungfrau railway is a must-experience attraction. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of glaciers and majestic mountains. You can also savor food and coffee at the mountaintop restaurant. 📍 Mount First Mount First is a well-known hiking destination in Switzerland. The scenery is beautiful, especially in winter when you can ski and ice skate here. You can also take the Mount First lift to enjoy the breathtaking views along the way. If you like adventure, try skiing, ice skating, and other activities. 📍 Lake Lungern Lake Lungern is one of Switzerland’s most beautiful lakes. The scenery is especially lovely in spring when you can admire cherry blossoms and tulips. You can also enjoy delicious food at lakeside cafes and restaurants. To learn more about the area’s history and culture, consider joining local hikes or visiting nearby museums. 📍 Cliff skywalk The cliff skywalk is one of Switzerland’s most famous tourist attractions. This glass walkway is located on a mountaintop in Grindelwald. Here, you can overlook the stunning views of Grindelwald and the Alps. If you enjoy thrilling activities, try walking on the glass skywalk for an exciting experience. You can also enjoy spectacular sunsets and beautiful starry skies here.

Honestly, I keep seeing posts about Iceland and Xinjiang, but Switzerland is really rare. After going, I understand—it’s not that the scenery isn’t beautiful, it’s that your wallet really feels the pain😂 But everyone, I did it! A 7-day, 6-night highlight trip that’s neither budget nor luxury. Please keep this guide. ✨Trip highlights 🏔️ Mount Rigi instead of Jungfrau, only one-third the price, with sea-of-clouds views that leave you speechless 🚂 Golden Pass train from Interlaken to Lucerne, panoramic windows show lakes and mountains rolling by, worth every ticket cent 💜 Lungern is the real green wonderland, snow-capped mountains reflected in crystal-clear lakes, and very few people 🌸 Spiez is known as Switzerland’s most beautiful small town, with vineyards ending at Lake Thun, like a painting 🗺️7-day itinerary D1: Arrive in Zurich, take the train straight to Lucerne to settle in D2: Lucerne → Mount Rigi, mountain train + boat combo ticket is a great deal D3: Lucerne → Lungern → Interlaken, the Golden Pass train’s most stunning section D4: Interlaken lake tour + Spiez, buy fruit at the local market D5: Grindelwald First peak, must walk the cliff trail D6: Return to Zurich, stroll the old town and buy souvenirs D7: Last look at Bahnhofstrasse, then head to the airport 🍫About food Supermarket roasted chicken leg with bread is everyday fare, Coop’s roast chicken at 6 CHF saves the Chinese stomach Try cheese fondue once, but too much will really weigh you down Milk is cheaper than bottled water, and supermarket yogurt is delicious no matter what 😱Price reality A burger at a regular restaurant costs 28 CHF, it hurts Stay in a guesthouse! Having a kitchen saves a lot, and supermarkets have many semi-prepared ingredients Bottled water is 4 CHF per bottle, but tap water is everywhere if you bring a bottle 📌Visa tips Schengen visa appointments must be booked 3 months in advance, summer is very competitive Don’t fake your itinerary, consulates really call to verify hotels Insurance must cover at least €30,000, not a euro less 🏠Accommodation guide Hostel dorms in Interlaken start at 50 CHF Recommended to stay in nearby towns like Wilderswil, half the price and quieter Hostel kitchens are social hubs where backpackers from all over share food ⚠️Avoid pitfalls Swiss Pass isn’t necessary if you’re not going to Jungfrau; half-fare cards are more flexible Train tickets are cheaper if bought in advance; buying on-site can be shockingly expensive Supermarkets are closed on Sundays, so stock up on Saturday! Power adapters have thin pins; European standard won’t work, buy separately Bringing instant noodles isn’t embarrassing—you’ll thank me when you’re hungry late at night The total cost was about 12,000 including airfare, which is very restrained for Switzerland. The scenery is truly like a fairy tale, but spending is very real. But trust me, the first sight of Lungern is worth scrimping and saving for.

First Mountain activities may get you wet. · Sun protection: Strong UV at high altitude, sunscreen and sunglasses essential. · Booking: Book accommodations 2-3 months in advance during peak season. Buy First Mountain adventure packages online in advance. · Weather: Mountain weather changes quickly; check real-time weather before departure. 🌅 The dreamy slopes of Grindelwald, the blue-green waters of Lungern, the cliff walk on First Mountain, the 72 waterfalls of Lauterbrunnen, and the 360-degree panorama from Mount Rigi—these combined sights make Switzerland irreplaceable. 💬 Which corner of Switzerland do you like best? Is it Grindelwald’s dreamy slopes, Lungern’s blue-green lake, or First Mountain’s cliff walk? Feel free to share in the comments~

From the snowy mountains of Zurich to the ruins of Rome, 9 days crossing two great civilizations. At every location, I found the best photo spots, and this article reveals all my secret photography locations at once. Limited to 5 people per small group, with a Chinese-speaking private car throughout, no need to find your own way, just focus on taking photos. 📸 Day 2 Lake Lungern — Misty Wonderland Drone Spot Must-shoot spot: At the end of the lakeside boardwalk, there is a protruding rock. Stand on it and use an ultra-wide angle to capture the lake reflections + snowy mountains + church spire. At sunrise, the mist is most magical. Even a phone can take stunning shots. Shooting time: Early morning 6-8 AM, when the mist hasn't cleared and the light is soft. 📸 Day 2 Lauterbrunnen — Waterfall Town God’s Eye View Must-shoot spot: From Staufenbach Bridge, shoot a composition combining waterfall + church + snowy mountains, using a telephoto lens to compress the background mountains. Or walk to the end of the valley road and shoot a bird’s-eye view of the entire town. Shooting time: 2-4 PM when sunlight directly hits the waterfall, making the mist most beautiful. 📸 Day 2 Grindelwald — Fairy Tale Cabin at the Foot of the Snow Mountain Must-shoot spot: Shoot downhill from the western hillside of the town, with wooden cabins + meadows + Jungfrau’s snowy peak lined up. Use a 50mm prime lens for cabin close-ups, adding a cluster of wildflowers in the foreground for extra charm. Shooting time: Dusk 5-7 PM, warm light shining on the snow mountain and cabins. 📸 Day 3 Zurich Cathedral — Twin Towers Blue Hour Must-shoot spot: On the east bank of the Limmat River, use the cathedral’s twin towers as the main subject, with river reflections as the foreground. The blue hour when lights turn on offers the strongest warm-cool contrast. Then go to Münsterbrücke Bridge for symmetrical compositions. Shooting time: 20 minutes after sunset during blue hour, around 9-9:30 PM in summer. 📸 Day 4 Milan Cathedral — You Among the Spires Must-shoot spot: After climbing to the rooftop platform, take low-angle shots of yourself with the spires, including blue sky and spires in the frame. Find gaps between two spires to shoot with depth. Shooting time: 4-6 PM, side light highlights marble textures, and dusk allows for night shots. 📸 Day 5 Venice Gondola — Grand Canal Sunset Must-shoot spot: Sit at the gondola’s bow and use a wide-angle lens to capture the waterway ahead and buildings on both sides. When passing under Rialto Bridge, turn back to shoot the bridge arch and water reflections. Sunset shots of the Grand Canal from the Accademia Bridge are a must. Shooting time: Evening 5-7 PM at sunset, when the water glows golden. 📸 Day 6 Florence — Red Dome Panorama Must-shoot spot: From the steps of Michelangelo Square, shoot a bird’s-eye view of the city, capturing the dome + bell tower + red roofs. Or climb Giotto’s Bell Tower for dome close-ups, using the tower’s window frame as a natural frame. Shooting time: Arrive an hour before sunset to secure a spot; golden hour is best for dome shots. 📸 Day 6 Tuscany — Classic Cypress Tree Road Composition Must-shoot spot: At the cypress viewpoint, shoot double rows of cypress trees + winding dirt road + golden hills, a classic postcard view. Use a telephoto lens to compress the small Ear Church between hills, creating a sense of solitude. Shooting time: 3-5 PM, side light adds layers to the hills. 📸 Day 7 Roman Colosseum — Blue Hour Ruins Masterpiece Must-shoot spot: Exit the Colosseo metro station facing the Colosseum, shoot with a low-angle ultra-wide lens. Or walk to Via Niccolò Forteguerri to shoot the Colosseum with street lamps. Inside, use the arches on the second tier as frames for panoramic shots. Shooting time: Blue hour just as lights turn on for the most stunning exterior shots; inside, daylight provides even lighting. 📸 Day 7 Trevi Fountain, Rome — Empty Early Morning Must-shoot spot: Stand on the steps directly opposite the fountain, use an ultra-wide angle to capture the entire sculpture group + pool. Or stand on a high side spot to shoot the crowd and fountain together. Early morning when empty, sit by the pool and shoot the Neptune statue from a low angle. Shooting time: 6-7 AM when almost no one is around; daytime is too crowded to get close. 🎒 Gear Recommendations Camera: Full-frame + 24-70mm zoom is most practical; bring ultra-wide 14-24mm for large scenes in Switzerland. Phone: iPhone ultra-wide angle is sufficient; bring a small tripod for night shots and time-lapses. Filters: CPL polarizer doubles the effect of reducing reflections on Swiss lakes. Battery: Bring an extra battery; cold European winter outdoors drains power quickly.

I didn't expect Lungern to become one of my favorite places in Switzerland. Most people come here because of the famous turquoise lake and postcard-perfect mountain views. But what made this village unforgettable for me wasn't just the scenery—it was one of the simplest experiences I've ever had in Switzerland: filling a bottle of fresh milk from a self-service Milch Automat. 🤍 My Experience I arrived in Lungern early in the morning when the village was still incredibly peaceful. The lake reflected the surrounding mountains perfectly, and there were only a few locals walking around. After exploring the famous Lungern viewpoint, I stopped at a nearby Milch Automat (fresh milk vending machine). It was honestly one of the most authentic Swiss experiences I've had. I bought an empty glass bottle, inserted a few Swiss francs into the machine, pressed the button, and watched fresh local milk flow directly into my bottle. Everything was so simple, yet it felt incredibly special. The milk tasted rich, creamy, and naturally sweet—nothing like the milk I usually buy at home. Sitting beside Lake Lungern with fresh Swiss milk in my hands made me slow down and truly appreciate the peaceful lifestyle of this beautiful village. Sometimes, it's these little moments that become the best travel memories. 📍 Things You Shouldn't Miss in Lungern ✅ Lungern Viewpoint The iconic panoramic view overlooking the emerald lake. Best visited early morning for fewer crowds and softer light. ✅ Milch Automat (Fresh Milk Station) 🥛 A self-service milk vending machine run by local farmers. Bring some Swiss Franc coins or purchase a reusable glass bottle. Fresh local milk available daily while supplies last. Such a unique way to support local farms while enjoying authentic Swiss dairy. ✅ Walk Along Lake Lungern Crystal-clear turquoise water. Beautiful wooden docks perfect for photos. Peaceful atmosphere with mountain views everywhere. ✅ Explore the Village Traditional wooden Swiss houses. Flower-filled balconies. Quiet streets that feel like stepping into a postcard. 🚆 How to Get There From Interlaken Ost ➡️ Take the train towards Luzern ➡️ Get off at Lungern Station Travel time: around 45 minutes From Lucerne ➡️ Direct train to Lungern Travel time: about 1 hour The famous viewpoint is around a 15–20 minute uphill walk from the station. 💡 Travel Tips ✔️ Visit before 9:00 AM for the best lighting and almost no crowds. ✔️ The Milch Automat may accept coins only, so keep some CHF on hand. ✔️ Bring an insulated bag if you plan to carry the fresh milk with you. ✔️ Wear comfortable shoes if you're walking up to the viewpoint. ✔️ Check the weather before visiting—Lungern is at its most magical on a clear day when the lake turns its signature turquoise color. ⭐ Why I Would Visit Again Lungern isn't packed with famous attractions or busy shopping streets. Instead, it offers something much more valuable—peace. Watching the lake shimmer under the morning sun, hearing cowbells echo through the valley, and enjoying fresh milk straight from a local farm reminded me that sometimes the best travel experiences are also the simplest. If you're planning a Switzerland itinerary between Lucerne and Interlaken, don't just stop for a photo. Stay a little longer. Walk through the village. Try the fresh milk. You'll understand why Lungern quietly becomes one of the most memorable places in Switzerland. 📍 Save this spot for your Switzerland itinerary! #Switzerland #Lungern #LakeLungern #SwissVillage #MilchAutomat #SwissAlps #TravelSwitzerland #Interlaken #Lucerne #HiddenGem #SwissTravel #EuropeTrip #NatureLovers #TravelGuide #TripMoments

This France-Switzerland route offers a real surprise at the Interlaken stop! Many people think the highlight of Switzerland is the Jungfrau, but once you go, you'll find the small towns around Interlaken are seriously underrated. You can visit 4 towns in one day, each with its own unique character. 🔵 Lungern: The lake water shifts from blue to green, and on sunny days it’s close to Tiffany blue—every photo looks like a postcard. 🟢 Lake Brienz: One of Switzerland’s bluest lakes. Taking a boat ride lets you see snow-capped peaks reflected on the water. Many come specifically to catch the windless moments for perfect reflections. ⚪ Lauterbrunnen: A valley with 72 waterfalls. Walking along the waterfalls, you hear the roaring water and breathe in air full of negative ions. 🟡 Grindelwald: The dreamy hillside is naturally a soothing green without any filters. Standing on the slope daydreaming feels like stepping into a Studio Ghibli animation. 📌 Practical Tips Full-day car service, no need to figure out transportation yourself Driving between towns takes less than half an hour, so the pace is relaxed Chinese-speaking guide available for groups of 4 or more First and Rigi Mountains are optional and priced locally Which Swiss small town do you like best? In Lungern, the landscape feels almost impossibly balanced. A quiet alpine village, a lake of unreal turquoise, steep green slopes rising toward distant peaks — everything appears arranged with such calm precision that it hardly seems accidental. If Switzerland has a gentler side, it lives here. At the edge of Lake Lungern, the water shifts between emerald and glacial blue depending on the light. In the morning, mist lingers low across the surface, softening mountains into silhouettes. By afternoon, sunlight sharpens every detail — wooden houses, grazing meadows, forested ridges reflected in water clear enough to feel almost unreal. The village itself does not rush to impress. It simply exists within the landscape, quietly. Church spires rise above chalet rooftops. Flower boxes brighten balconies. Paths wind gently between hillside pastures where cowbells drift through clean mountain air with no need for amplification. And then there is the famous viewpoint. From above, Lungern reveals its full composition — lake, village, valley, mountains — folded into a scene so harmonious it feels closer to a painting than a settlement. Yet what makes Lungern memorable is not perfection. It is atmosphere. The feeling that life here moves at a slightly different pace, measured not by schedules, but by weather, light, and the slow changing colors of the lake. 📍 Location: Lungern, Switzerland 🚆 How to get there: Around 1–1.5 hours by train or car from Lucerne via scenic central Swiss routes 🕰️ Best time: Late spring to autumn for emerald water, lush hillsides, and clear alpine views 💡 Travel tip: Walk to the panoramic viewpoints above the village — Lungern is beautiful from the shore, but unforgettable from above. In Lungern, Switzerland does not try to astonish. It simply becomes impossibly serene.

If you are traveling between Luzern and Interlaken, forget the bus—take the Luzern-Interlaken Express! It's a just under 2-hour journey that feels like a movie. We took one of the trains with the massive panoramic windows, and even though we weren't in the most expensive first-class seats, the views were still incredible. You can't take a bad photo. The train climbs over the Brünig Pass and passes five different lakes. The view over Lungern is insane and the waters of Lake Brienz is a bright turquoise color that doesn't even look real! You’ll see waterfalls, traditional Swiss chalets, and mountain walls right outside your window. It’s a great way to see the countryside without having to hike for hours. Pro-tip: If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, this entire journey is fully included at no extra cost! You don't technically need a seat reservation for the regular panoramic trains, but if you're traveling during peak season like the summer, I think it’s worth the money to guarantee a window seat. For the best views of the lakes, try to sit on the right side when traveling from Luzern toward Interlaken! #tripmoments #switzerland #lucerne #interlaken #scenictrain #goldenpass #travelguide
