The hot and dry early autumn arrives in Maxicali
This was a short business trip.
The scenery along the way was quite unique. The winding mountain roads were thankfully not crowded, otherwise it would have felt a bit dangerous. Occasionally, there were warning signs for wild animals, including coyotes. Maxicali is located inland at a low latitude, so the summers are dry and hot. There are many Chinese restaurants, which locals call "buffets," and many Chinese immigrants from the gold rush era have been there. Although my stay was short, I had two excellent Italian meals, one of which is featured in the cover photo. Staying at the Holiday Inn was very convenient; the hotel breakfast wasn't crowded.
It's said that summer temperatures can exceed 40 degrees Celsius, but locals are used to it and adapt well. Winter temperatures are close to 0 degrees Celsius.
