9 years ago, after seeing Tebasaki on *Delicious Guys*, I impulsively set off for Nagoya! That was my first solo trip, and since it was such a wonderful memory, I’ve always kept it in mind, and I revisited it during last year’s Chuseok holiday-* Since Shirakawa-go and Takayama have become such famous tourist destinations now, I boldly skipped them and, while debating where to go, found the ryokan of a lifetime. For around 300,000 won... There are a whopping 6 open-air baths and one public bath each for men and women, a total of 8...😳 Because there are so many different baths, there are usage conditions, but they aren't too difficult! Conditions like "women only at this time" or "men only at that time"...🥸 With an ocean view and countless baths... why be picky! Just go for it!🫶🏻 I wanted to keep it a secret, but I'm sharing it... 🙏🏻 There isn't much food, so you have to buy some at a convenience store beforehand! I took a 10-minute ferry ride from Shizaki Port in Aichi Prefecture and visited Shinojima Island. ✨ The island is small enough that you can get around on foot. 🚶 There are several restaurants serving delicious set meals, and I enjoyed some delicious fish. 🐠💗 There are also several small supermarkets, so I had no trouble finding snacks, drinks, and everyday items. While you can enjoy a day trip, I recommend staying overnight if you want to relax! A relaxing trip with octopus and the sea. Himakajima is a small island located about a 10-minute ferry ride from the tip of the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture. Known as the "Island of Octopus and Blowfish," it offers exquisite octopus dishes served whole, available year-round! The island is compact enough to walk around entirely on foot. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll, read a book on a seaside bench, or simply relax. Bicycle rentals are also available, making it perfect for a carefree solo trip. Himakajima is a great place for a casual date or trip in Aichi. It's only a few minutes by ferry, so it's easy to get there on a day trip from Nagoya. Octopus in summer, fugu in winter, and delicious raw whitebait all year round. Lots of places to eat. I thought I was a little late, but when I checked, I found out I still had time! Strawberry picking. I arrived at Strawberry Village in Chita. It's the second half of the season, so the prices are reasonable. I went strawberry picking in a comfortable greenhouse to take a break from staying at home. It brightened my mood and allowed me to experience spring. Relaxing on Himakajima Island. Himakajima Island is in Aichi Prefecture. I visit when I want to relax. Take the Meitetsu Kawawa Line from Nagoya Station, and boats depart from the port at Kawawa Station, the last stop. Minshuku Maruyo (Himakajima) is a cozy, family-run guesthouse located near the West Port of Himakajima in Aichi Prefecture. At just 12,000 yen, including both dinner and breakfast, the meals are incredibly generous. The charm lies in its hearty, fishing-town style and warm hospitality. It was an absolute seafood feast, starting with a massive sashimi platter, followed by spiny lobster, a whole boiled octopus, grunt fish, and fried shrimp. Situated close to the beach and the port, it’s conveniently located as a base for sightseeing and strolling around the island. It's a wonderful inn where you can unwind in an unpretentious atmosphere, savoring the authentic food and relaxed island time unique to Himakajima.

The meals at "Maruyo Ryokan," where we stayed on Himakajima Island, were absolutely lavish and left us completely satisfied! There was an unbelievable spread of fresh seafood, and every single dish was both delicious and incredibly hearty. The portions were so huge I honestly wondered if I could finish it all—it's an absolute dream come true for seafood lovers. Considering it included such a gorgeous dinner and the overnight stay for just 12,000 yen per person, I felt the value for money was fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly as well, and I couldn't be happier with the relaxing time we spent there ♪ I highly recommend this ryokan to anyone looking for mouthwatering seafood and an affordable place to stay on Himakajima!
