Spectacular snow scenery! One of Japan's most remote railway lines, the Tadami Line
The JR Tadami Line is a 135km long line that connects Koide Station in Uonuma, Niigata Prefecture to Aizuwakamatsu Station in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, and is popular as a hidden route with spectacular views!
The view of the train running through the snow from the viewpoint is especially spectacular and something you should see at least once in your life.

Fukushima: Hop on the Tadami Line to Explore the Beauty of a Hidden Wonderland.
📷🚞Ever thought about taking a train ride through breathtaking, off-the-beaten-path landscapes?
Connecting Fukushima and Niigata Prefectures, the local "Tadami Line" gently winds its way along the Tadami River. Along the journey, you can take in magnificent views of mountains, valleys, and bridges seamlessly woven together, making it one of Japan's most spectacular scenic railways. Whether it's spring, summer, autumn, or winter, the Tadami Line offers completely unique and enchanting views all year round⛰️
While admiring the scenery from the comfort of the train is wonderful, we also highly recommend hopping off along the way to visit various observation decks. Offering a panoramic view of the classic scene where the train crosses the bridge over a majestic valley, it's an absolute must-visit for railway fans and photography enthusiasts alike📸✨

🚞🍃 The Tadami Line – The World’s Most Romantic Railway
#worthitornot
If there’s one train journey that belongs on every Japan bucket list, it’s the JR Tadami Line. Winding through the remote mountains of Fukushima and Niigata, this legendary railway has been described by international media as “the world’s most romantic railway” thanks to its breathtaking scenery and peaceful atmosphere.
🌉 A Journey Through Untouched Japan
Stretching approximately 135 kilometers, the Tadami Line crosses deep valleys, crystal-clear rivers, dense forests, and dozens of bridges. Instead of rushing from one city to another, this slow local train invites you to simply sit back and enjoy the ever-changing landscapes outside your window.
📸 The Iconic First Tadami River Bridge
The route’s most famous landmark is the First Tadami River Bridge, where the train gracefully crosses above the emerald Tadami River. Whether surrounded by morning mist, vibrant autumn leaves, or heavy winter snow, it’s considered one of Japan’s most spectacular railway photography spots.
🌸 Beautiful in Every Season
🌿 Spring brings fresh mountain greenery.
☀️ Summer fills the valleys with lush forests and sparkling rivers.
🍁 Autumn transforms the mountains into a sea of red and gold.
❄️ Winter blankets the landscape in deep snow, creating one of Japan’s most magical railway journeys. In fact, the Tadami Line has long been celebrated for its spectacular snowy scenery.
🚉 A Hidden Gem Away from the Crowds
Unlike the famous Shinkansen routes, the Tadami Line takes you through small villages, hot spring towns, and untouched countryside where life moves at a gentler pace. It’s the perfect destination for travelers looking to discover a quieter, more authentic side of Japan.
✨ Sometimes the destination isn’t the highlight—the journey is. On the Tadami Line, every bridge, every curve, and every mountain view reminds you why slow travel can be the most unforgettable adventure of all.

I encountered the most beautiful winter in a tiny Japanese-style inn with only 11 rooms.
I encountered the most beautiful winter in a tiny Japanese-style inn with only 11 rooms.
❄️ I'd often heard of Kanayama-cho because of the Tadami Line. Photography enthusiasts often talk about this stunning local railway line in Japan. It passes through this little-known village.
The village is situated by the river and still retains traces of old Japan. Sometimes, it feels like stepping back in time.
♨️ This time, I stayed at a small and cozy Japanese-style inn in Kanayama-cho—Ebisu-ya.
The open-air hot spring bath is by the river and is a rare find—100% natural carbonated spring. Although the pool isn't as grand as some inn's swimming pools, it wasn't crowded, and gazing at the snow-capped river was incredibly pleasant.
🥢 The cuisine is mostly local specialties. ✨ There are several other unique hot spring resorts nearby, and it's not far from the often misty Kirigen-kyo Gorge. Highly recommended if you're coming to photograph the Tadami Line.

"Tadami Line" Romantic Train Line
#Fukushima Japan 🇯🇵
They say that this is the most romantic local train line in the world. We traveled during New Year. There was not much snow. If you want to see fluffy snow, It might be the end of January. Use the JR East pass. It's super worth it for those who are going to Tohoku.
#How to get there
1. Tokyo > Koriyama 80 minutes
2. Koriyama > Aizu-Wakamatsu (JR Ban-etsu-West Line) 80 minutes
________ You should stay 1 night___________
3. Aizu-Wakamatsu > Aizu-Kawaguchi (JR Tadami Line) 2 hours. You should leave early in the morning.
4. Aizu-Kawaguchi > Aizu-Miyashita (JR Tadami Line) Arrive at 1 pm to reach the viewpoint of the train that will pass by at 2 pm.
5. On the way back, Aizu-Miyashita > Aizu-Wakamatsu
Note: We didn't make it in time, so there are no pictures of the train running.><
If you want beautiful pictures, you have to allow plenty of time because the train only runs a few times a day.
If you don't make it in time, you can walk around the small villages around there.
There is a delicious ramen and bread shop
