We drove ourselves to Lautersee in Mittenwald, a place known for its beautiful lakes and mountains. The beautiful lake offers a distant view of the Alps, and it is surrounded by green trees, making it very peaceful and beautiful. Mittenwald is also a famous art town, with houses decorated with exquisite murals everywhere. These murals depict natural landscapes, religious stories, and other themes, becoming a highlight of this quaint town. Snow, lakes, mountains. Winter in Mittenwald has always been on my must-visit list, and this time I finally experienced the joy of winter hiking. It still feels like a built-in filter, so beautiful it seems unreal 🥹 🌟Difficulty: 2.5🌟! The first half of the route up to Hoher Kranzberg is all uphill, with a maximum slope of 23°, so it requires a certain level of endurance. The second half is mostly flat, but some parts in the mountains may have ice patches. 🚄Transportation: Take the RB6 train directly from Munich Central Station (München Hbf) to Mittenwald, about a 2-hour ride. 🎫Tickets: The entire trip is covered by the 58-euro monthly Deutschlandticket, no extra cost. 👣Hiking Route: Refer to map 18 Mittenwald Hbf — St Anton (P2-3) — Hoher Kranzberg (P4) — Ferchensee (P8-11) — Lautersee (P12-13) — Mittenwald Hbf Big loop: The first half is all road/gravel paths, uphill all the way, with a very steep and long slope before St. Anton, extremely tiring! At the summit, there is a small cabin to rest, and the view is spectacular. The horizon is vast, with endless mountain ranges and Wildensee in sight. After passing through a forest trail, you reach Ferchensee ❄️ where the lake surface is already frozen. Walking around the lake offers different views at every turn! Going down leads to Lautersee, where on a clear day you can see snow-capped mountains reflected on the lake. The descent mostly follows a creek (P15-16), very soothing~ I was lucky to see the golden sunlight on the mountain peaks and a full moon that day (P17)🌕 👚Clothing: Warm base layers + inner layer + down jacket. It was very cold when I got off the train, but after starting the hike, I took off the down jacket. Two layers were enough; I was already sweating after the first half. I wore waterproof snow boots which worked, but it was still a bit slippery—hiking boots are best, but crampons are not necessary. 📌Notes: 1️⃣ Winter days are short, don’t linger too long enjoying the scenery. I started hiking around 10:30 at Mittenwald station, stopping often to take photos, and just made it in time for the 16:30 return train 🚄 The timing was quite tight. 2️⃣ Signal is poor in the mountains on the second half, so download offline maps 🗺️ in advance. 3️⃣ Bring a power bank! Phones drain quickly in cold weather, especially when using maps and taking photos. Trading steps for scenery, once again embraced by snowy mountains, icy lakes, and quiet valleys—feeling so happy 🤍

Hiking around Mittenwald, I first walked from the train station to Lautersee and thought the scenery was just okay. I asked ChatGPT if it was necessary to go to Ferchensee, and it said, "Since you've already reached Lautersee, if time permits, it's 100% worth it. There you'll find the snowy mountains you imagine." It was just past 1 PM, so of course I had time. I started heading toward Ferchensee. As I walked, I noticed white mist ahead, like entering a fairy tale forest, passing through rows of "Christmas trees." It seemed I had reached the lakeside because the original lake surface was completely covered with ice and snow, a vast white expanse. The sunlight shone on the snowy mountains, while mist hovered over the lake and mountains. The golden sunlight on the mountains also meant the sun was about to set, so I hurried back. Passing Lautersee again, I found it even more beautiful than at noon. At noon, it was a tranquil deep blue lake, but now it reflected the beautiful snowy mountains. Although the distance wasn’t long, some paths were icy, so we walked very carefully. Once the sun set, it got dark very quickly. On the way back, we took another path by a small waterfall. Where the path was easy, we jogged all the way until we saw the small town beneath the snowy mountains, which reassured us. Finally, we just made it to the 5 PM return train. By the time we boarded, it was completely dark. Winter in Mittenwald is so beautiful.

After arriving in Munich, this photography enthusiast fell in love with hiking! Therefore, I am starting a new series called "Hiking Diary" to document the scenery, hiking routes, and tips I encounter during hikes. In fact, this is my third hike around Munich. The first two were to Garmisch and Kufstein, both with quite beautiful scenery. I will organize and share them with everyone later. 📍Mittenwald🇩🇪 Depart from Munich Central Station, take the RB6 train directly to Mittenwald station. Note!! The train may split at a certain station along the way, and only the front part will continue to Mittenwald, so pay attention to the train announcements 📣 The hiking route is shown in the last picture. Personally, I find the difficulty moderate, with a climb through the forest in the middle and a very long downhill section in the second half. Friends going in winter should be cautious. The scenery along the way is very nice, with almost no sections without views. The coolest part is probably the canyon section at the beginning, with absolutely stunning Alpine snow scenery! The snow-capped mountain reflection on Lautersee Lake is quite breathtaking, and the streetscape of Mittenwald town is also very pretty. However, daylight in Germany in November is a bit short. Walking and taking photos for 5 hours felt a bit rushed. The scenery is so beautiful that there simply isn’t enough time to capture it all.
