Modica travel guide and discussion

#High-altitude viewing #Overseas travel The Baroque ancient city of Modica in Sicily is listed as a World Cultural Heritage along with Noto. The best way to visit Modica is to climb up one flight of stairs after another, and look out over the rows of ancient houses built against the mountain. The stone tones retain a sense of simplicity here. There are a total of 254 steps leading to the Baroque-style church Duomo di San Giorgio. In front of the church is the best viewing platform for the entire town. The houses retain the light tones of stone, giving the town a more primitive and simple feel. There are many Baroque churches in the ancient city, which are also worth visiting. #Star Writers Go Go Go #Sicily

Dreaming of hidden gems in Sicily? Here’s a sharp detour featuring Modica—a charming town with magic in the air—and the lesser-known Minerbio for a micro-adventure worth every moment! 🍊✨ Top Spots to Visit: Modica—this place is quiet, beautiful, and radiates its own unique energy. We stopped here between Agrigento and Siracusa, and honestly, it’s perfect if you need a peaceful vibe. The cobbled streets and sun-soaked facades give every photo a vintage filter—no editing needed! The town’s shopkeepers are a vibe; super friendly, and don’t be surprised if they offer you free biscuits (the best unexpected treat!). Drop by one of the local shops near Corso Umberto I for handmade chocolate or pastries—they’re just as sweet as the locals themselves. Don’t miss the local fruit stands: the Sicilian giant lemon here—especially oranges and mandarins—are a flavor upgrade. I’ve never tasted citrus like this before; it’s intensely fresh and unforgettable! 🍊 Minerbio—while not bustling with tourist sights, it's all about slow living and authentic Italian small-town feels. Take a gentle walk around the historic center and soak it in. How to Get Around: Travel between towns by car if you want that ultimate flexibility—Modica is best explored on foot, so park up and enjoy the stroll. Public buses link small towns but run less often, so check the schedule ahead via trip.com. Quick Tips: Bring cash for those little local shops (many don’t accept cards). In Modica, go for citrus fruit and local biscuits—absolute musts. Shops tend to close for siesta (roughly 1–4pm), so plan snack stops early or late. #SicilySecrets #ModicaMagic #CitrusCrush #TripNotes #HiddenItalia

Modica is a hillside town that feels like it’s been poured out of a storybook — baroque churches (especially the absolutely gorgeous Duomo de San Giorgio!) stacked above winding lanes, all glowing honey-gold in the Sicilian sun. But let’s be honest: most people (me included 😋) come here for one thing… chocolate. The town is famous for its Aztec-inspired method of making chocolate, brought by the Spanish centuries ago. It’s grainy, rich, and utterly addictive. I popped into Cioccolato di Modica Sabadì Sabadì - Cioccolato di Modica and, honestly, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — worth every bite. Try the chilli-infused bar if you’re feeling brave 🌶️🍫. Between tastings, Modica’s steep stairways and dramatic views make wandering a joy. Climb to the Cathedral of San Giorgio for a view that’ll stop you in your tracks. Then reward yourself with… well, more chocolate. 🍫✨ This is Sicily’s sweet spot — literally. #mediterranean #modica #sicily #italy #churches

#mytraveldiary Modica in Sicily, Italy, is a town that charms you with its dramatic hillside setting and its famous chocolate. Built across steep slopes, it has winding streets and staircases that connect beautiful baroque buildings and lively piazzas. The churches here are stunning, especially the Cathedral of San Giorgio, which rises impressively above the town. But what really makes Modica special is its chocolate tradition, made using an ancient Aztec method introduced by the Spanish. Sampling the unique grainy texture and rich flavors is a must when visiting. Beyond chocolate, the town has a relaxed rhythm, with cozy cafes, local shops, and scenic viewpoints that open up over the valley. Modica blends history, architecture, and culinary delights, making it a highlight of southeastern Sicily.

The Duomo di San Pietro in Modica is a must-see when you visit the city. This grand cathedral, with its stunning Baroque style predominantly in white, is truly magnificent. The church was established by San Marziano, a disciple of Saint Peter, the first bishop of Syracuse. Due to its connection with Saint Peter's disciple, the interior of the church features many motifs related to the tiara and Saint Peter. The entrance fee is €2.5 per person, which is well worth it.

#FreeHotelStay Located in the center of Modica, about a 5-minute drive from the Duomo di San Giorgio. A classic hotel that has been in business since 1780 and offers a view of the courtyard. The rooms and lobby are decorated to please fans of classic hotels, and the large bathtub with a jacuzzi is rare in Italy. The breakfast is delicious, with a selection of sweets, typical of Italy, and you won't be able to stop having second helpings in the morning. The only drawback is that you have to walk up a narrow hill to get to the center of town. Still, it's a hotel I'd like to stay at again.

#FreeHotelStay The oldest chocolate factory in Sicily, Dolceria Bonajuto, was founded in Modica in 1880. The characteristic of Bonajuto chocolate is that it is made at low temperatures following an ancient recipe of Mesoamerican origin. This is why the sugar crystals do not melt completely, resulting in a granular, rough texture! When I tried it for the first time, I was amazed by the punchy texture that blew away my concept of chocolate. I became addicted. I also participated in a tour of the factory and enjoyed tasting various chocolate sweets. I think it is a special chocolate from Italy, where chocolate is delicious. #FreeHotelStay Modica is a World Heritage Site town that spreads out in a valley at an altitude of 300 meters. Modica's cathedral, Duomo di San Giorgio, is located in the old town, which is centered on a hill surrounded by a valley. First of all, the exterior is beautiful. The staircase, gardens, and the magnificent cathedral façade create a beautiful view. The beautiful curved design is feminine and more gorgeous than a cathedral, like a palace. The interior of the cathedral is even more elegant, with the altar and pipe organ lavishly decorated. The pale blue and gold colors stand out against the white of the ceiling and walls. There is an observation deck in front of the church, and it is nice to be able to look out over the old town.

#OverseasTravel Went to Osteria dei Sapori Perduti, a well-known local restaurant in the center of Modica, Sicily. The decoration inside is classic and simple, mainly wooden furniture, which has the warmth of home. Ordered a very homely dish, Pasta paddunedda, which was delicious. There are lots of little meatballs in the broth - plus the pasta, simple and delicious. Also ordered the Pistachio Parfait di pistacchio, a dessert similar to ice cream texture. Also, this restaurant is located on the main street under the Modica hillock, in a super convenient location, without having to climb stairs at all. 📍 Osteria dei Sapori Perduti Corso Umberto I°, 228, 97015 Modica #Italian travel #Europe travel #overseas travel

#外游 The chocolate from Modica in Sicily is very famous, and every tourist will come to visit and taste it. Antica Pasticceria Bonajuto is the oldest chocolate shop in Sicily, with a history of more than 130 years, and the prices are surprisingly affordable~ In this shop, you can find special chocolate flavors, such as chili, pistachio, ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla, and you can also taste them on the spot. The staff said the most popular ones are Vaniglia and Cinnamon Cannella! The specialty of the shop is that it has been made at low temperature using the ancient method. The chocolate is not smooth, but retains the original texture of cocoa powder. It is crunchy and unforgettable! 📍 Antica Pasticceria Bonajuto Corso Umberto I, 159, 97015 Modica #ItalianTravel #EuropeanTravel #OverseasTravel
