Monduli travel guide and discussion

What an amazing journey! We embarked on a six-day expedition with Abraham and his team, starting from Nainokanoka and trekking to Empakaai Crater, then onward to Acacia Camp and Lake Natron, before culminating with a climb to the summit of Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. Having explored mountains around the globe, I can confidently say that the first three days rank in my Top 5 all-time best hikes. Why? The extraordinary diversity of landscapes, the profound insight into Maasai land, life, and culture, the captivating light, the wildlife, and the untouched wilderness. Waking up to the enchanting view above Empakaai Crater was unforgettable, and strolling across the sprawling open grasslands that stretched endlessly toward the horizon felt akin to gazing out over the ocean. Later, as the scenery altered dramatically, it reminded us of Iceland with its stark, volcanic terrain. Every day presented a new wonder to behold. And then came Ol Doinyo Lengai. The ascent must be undertaken at night to avoid the scorching daytime heat—and perhaps so the sheer, intimidating steepness remains unseen until you're already on your way! It was a brutally challenging climb, both ascending and descending. But reaching the summit and gazing into an active volcano was something utterly unique: raw, untamed, and almost surreal, like a divine gift. The experience was deeply rewarding. Would I do it again? No! Am I glad I did it and saw it? Absolutely YES! And am I proud? Without a doubt! But I am equally happy we all made it safely down. My group consisted of five other expats familiar with Tanzania and Norway's mountains. Five out of six of us reached the top, but I wasn’t entirely sure everyone would descend unscathed until the final person made it safely down. This is God’s mountain. In Maasai, "Lengai" means God. Maybe God urges us to push our limits to witness some of the world’s extraordinary marvels—and, thankfully, most of the time, everything turns out well. It was a genuine African adventure! A special mention for Abraham: I discovered him through ChatGPT, so I had my doubts initially. That said, he exceeded every expectation. Being Maasai himself and living near Lake Natron, Abraham possesses deep knowledge of the region, communicates effectively, and excels at selecting outstanding local guides who are intimately familiar with each segment of the route. Let’s not forget the food! We had an incredible cook who prepared fresh tilapia—the best I’ve ever had—grilled goat, and evenings graced with soup accompanied by freshly baked bread. It was unparalleled. Six days of trekking, volcanoes, immersion in Maasai culture, untouched wilderness, amazing people, and unbelievably good food—life is indeed a blessing!

My wife and I went to Tanzania for our honeymoon. We landed in Kilimanjaro and spent the first night there upon arrival. Then we hit the road with our guide Loshy. We stopped at Mto wa Mbu to explore the local culture, followed by a two-day stay at Lake Natron (discovering the lake and the Engare Sero waterfalls canyon with our amazing Maasai guide Christina). Next, we embarked on a safari in the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater in the following days. Witnessing these animals in their natural habitat is a memory we’ll cherish forever. Endless thanks to our guide Loshy for making this unforgettable experience possible! ❤️

Our 12-day safari was nothing short of incredible! We were fortunate to see a wide variety of amazing animals, including the Big Five. Witnessing the great migration in the northern Serengeti was a breathtaking experience. The walking safari in Arusha National Park with a ranger was also a standout—it offered a unique perspective on nature and wildlife that's highly recommended. Our guide and driver, Zephania, was exceptional. His extensive knowledge of wildlife, nature, roads, and local culture greatly enriched our trip. He even taught us a bit of Swahili—thank you, Zepha! We appreciated his attention to our preferences, often steering away from the crowds, which allowed us to enjoy more tranquil and intimate wildlife moments. Thanks to this, we spotted some rare animals like a honey badger, a black-and-white colobus monkey, and even a black rhino! One major highlight was the hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti with our pilot, Blake Flynn. Though pricey, it was an unforgettable experience and offered stunning aerial views of the Serengeti. The accommodations exceeded our expectations with their beauty, luxury, and exceptional service. Lala Salama was a standout among them. Meals were consistently delicious, often featuring Western cuisine with a delightful Tanzanian twist. While lunch options occasionally felt repetitive, the lunch from Gnu Mara River Camp was a pleasant surprise. Meeting local tribes, including the Maasai and the people of Mto wa Mbu, was a deeply enriching experience. The tour in Mto wa Mbu with Priscka and our visits to the Hadza and Datoga tribes with Mike provided meaningful insights into local culture and traditions. Everywhere we went, people were extraordinarily kind and welcoming. From our first driver, Jackson, who treated us to a local lunch in Arusha, to the wonderful staff at the camps and lodges, everyone made us feel so at home. The in-car Wi-Fi was a great bonus during the lengthy drives, though we did notice that Coca Cola was the only soft drink provided in the car. Overall, we wholeheartedly recommend this safari company for anyone seeking an unforgettable adventure in Tanzania. Everything was perfectly organized, and we’d book with them again in a heartbeat! A big thank you to Ymke and Gwen for planning our itinerary with such care and making this trip truly unforgettable.

Taking children on a Tanzania safari is a dream trip for countless families. The endless plains of the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the woodlands of Tarangire allow children to step out of their textbooks and see the real world of wildlife with their own eyes, combining travel with hands-on nature education. However, African luxury safari lodges operate very differently from standard hotels, so you cannot rely solely on photos when choosing a room. When selecting a lodge for a family safari, focus on four core dimensions: age policies, exclusive children's activities, safari compatibility rules, and child discount policies. Many lodges have child occupancy restrictions, safety risks associated with shared game drives, and additional fees. Failing to verify these in advance can easily lead to awkward situations, such as being unable to check in upon arrival or children being unable to participate in game drives. With years of experience in high-end family travel customization in Africa, Free Wilderness Travel has visited hundreds of luxury lodges. Based on the classic northern Tanzania safari route, we have compiled a list of 5 top-tier, family-friendly lodges with welcoming policies and comprehensive facilities. Covering different stages of your itinerary, this guide serves as a direct reference for families planning a trip with children. Elewana Tarangire Treetops | Tarangire, the preferred first stop for family trips Located in a private reserve in Tarangire, Elewana Tarangire Treetops is perfect as the first stop on a Tanzania safari. The private woodland setting and relaxed pace are ideal for overcoming jet lag, making it suitable for families with young children. The lodge has no minimum age limit and is very accommodating to families with children of all ages; official policy requires children aged 14 and under to stay with a guardian. The benefit policy is friendly: children under 12 stay free when sharing with parents, and teenagers aged 12–17 receive exclusive youth rates, which can effectively reduce family travel costs. Unlike lodges that focus solely on game drives, this property offers a variety of children's experiences tailored to the local ecosystem. Children can learn the story of Tarangire's iconic baobab trees, participate in campfire marshmallow roasting, outdoor nature education, and light hiking. Without the need for long hours in a vehicle, they can learn about African flora and fauna through fun activities, making it a perfect start to your safari. Lemala Nanyukie Lodge | Central Serengeti, a balanced and all-around family lodge Lemala Nanyukie Lodge is located in the heart of the Central Serengeti, midway along the classic northern safari loop. Wildlife density is high, so we recommend staying for two consecutive nights to deeply experience the savanna ecosystem. The lodge clearly defines its children's preferential range, with ages 3–15 considered children. Provided an adult accompanies them, the first child stays for free, and the second child receives a 50% discount, offering great value. Safety rules require special attention: children under 6 participating in a safari must book a private, exclusive off-road vehicle in advance. Shared vehicles are not recommended to avoid crowding risks and ensure children's comfort. The lodge's exclusive Lemala Cubs program is designed specifically for children, offering a lighter pace than adult safaris for savanna adventures. Guides will take children to track animal footprints, identify savanna flora and fauna, and teach wildlife conservation, providing a savanna adventure experience tailored to children that balances animal viewing with personal growth. &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge | Western Serengeti, a science-oriented high-end family lodge The lodge is situated on the banks of the Grumeti River in the Western Serengeti, located in the heart of the Great Migration corridor. Hippos, crocodiles, and various herbivores are frequently spotted, offering exceptional safari resources. Families who prioritize nature education should consider this lodge. The child fee structure is clear and transparent: toddlers aged 0–5 stay free when sharing with adults; children aged 6–16 enjoy half-price adult rates, while family suites are priced separately. There is also strict safari safety management: young children under 5 must use a private off-road vehicle, while teenagers aged 12–15 can participate in standard group game drives. The iconic WILDchild nature education program is the lodge's biggest highlight. Professional guides lead children in learning jungle survival skills, crafting traditional East African bows and arrows, and immersing themselves in local East African culture, ensuring the family safari offers deep educational value beyond just sightseeing. Singita Sasakwa Lodge | Serengeti Highlands, a top-tier luxury family resort lodge As a benchmark for African luxury, Singita Sasakwa Lodge stands on the Serengeti Highlands, offering expansive and tranquil views. It is best placed in the second half of your itinerary; after days of busy game drives, you can slow down here and enjoy a relaxed family vacation. There is no minimum age limit, making it very friendly for families with multiple children. It features 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom detached family cottages, providing spacious, private accommodations for families. Children staying with adults enjoy half-price adult rates. Final pricing fluctuates based on the travel season, so please confirm the details before booking. The lodge's children's programs are highly professional, featuring junior ranger training, savanna stargazing, bird education, and jungle survival classes. With activities that are both engaging and professional, parents can enjoy the services of a top-tier luxury lodge while children gain rich wilderness experiences. Four Seasons Serengeti | Central Serengeti, an international five-star standardized family lodge Four Seasons Serengeti is located in the Seronera core area of the Central Serengeti and is one of the few international five-star luxury lodges in East Africa. Combining a mature international service system with an African safari experience, it offers excellent facilities and standardized services, making it suitable for high-end families who value consistent service. The minimum age for the lodge is 2 years old; children aged 10 and under enjoy free accommodation and meals when staying with adults. It offers connecting rooms and large family villas, making it friendly for families with two or more children. Large room types are subject to peak season availability and should be confirmed in advance. The hotel features the Kijana Klub and the comprehensive Kids For All Seasons program. Children under 4 must be accompanied by parents during club activities. Children can observe animals, learn Swahili, make Maasai beadwork, listen to local African stories, and track animal footprints. They can also join staff to set up infrared cameras and later visit the Discovery Center to review nighttime wildlife footage. When parents go out for deep safaris, the hotel offers paid professional childcare services. Movie nights are also available, with staff supervising children during the film and meal, effectively solving the problem of parents wanting to go on game drives while children need supervision. Key reminders for choosing a lodge for a Tanzania family safari Age reference: Considering the policies of various lodges and the physical exertion of safari drives, children over 6 are better suited for a full safari. For young children under 6, prioritize booking private safari vehicles, shorten the duration of each outing, and make more use of the lodge's internal children's activities. Important note: Children's discounts, vehicle rules, and children's activities at each lodge change based on the season and peak season availability. All terms must be double-checked before booking to avoid any issues during your trip. About customized travel Free Wilderness Travel specializes in high-end African safari customization. Having inspected hundreds of luxury lodges, we are familiar with the family policies, children's activity programs, and safety protocols of each, and we reject cookie-cutter itineraries. We can personalize your lodge selection and optimize your entire route based on your children's ages, group size, vacation time, and budget. Relying on direct, first-hand resources from mid-to-high-end and top-tier luxury lodges, we prioritize securing scarce family room types and private safari vehicles during peak seasons, offering significant price advantages over the market. With certified professional guides throughout your journey and customized children's nature experiences, we create a safe, comfortable, and immersive Tanzania family luxury safari for your family.

Thanks to the entire Tanzania Specialist team for enabling us to have this incredible experience. Special thanks to Marine for her quick responsiveness—she answered all my questions throughout the trip planning process. The accommodations were superb, each one more fantastic than the last. However, I can't give 5 stars due to the guide. While he was an excellent driver and tracker, his communication left much to be desired. Whether it was a language barrier because his French wasn’t fluent enough, or simply a lack of motivation, we felt he wasn’t talkative and gave very minimal answers to our questions about the animals or the country. Ironically, we learned much more about the culture and land during the excursions in Zanzibar. Speaking of excursions, the "Visit to a Maasai Village" was a complete disappointment—a tourist trap that added no value, especially considering the high extra cost. These two downsides aside, everything else was perfect. 👍

We had an incredible trip with Safari Avventura and highly recommend them to anyone visiting Tanzania. Our group of four enjoyed six days of safari from August 21st to 26th, followed by a day exploring the Hadzabe and Datoga communities. Valerio was our guide and Vincent our driver, and they were exceptional. Vincent, calm and professional, handled challenging roads with ease, ensuring we always felt safe and relaxed. Valerio was attentive and highly knowledgeable, offering advice and explanations that enriched every moment of our trip. He went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. During the safari, thanks to Valerio and Vincent, we witnessed incredible wildlife, including the Big Five and even a breathtaking cheetah hunting scene. Our visit to the Hadzabe and Datoga communities was authentic and deeply moving. Accompanying the Hadzabe on a hunting trip gave us a unique glimpse into their lives—an intense and memorable experience. Although visiting a Maasai community wasn't initially on our itinerary, Valerio understood our interest and made it happen. His flexibility and effort added another layer of magic to our journey. Both Valerio and Vincent were not only professional but also kind and enjoyable to travel with. A heartfelt thanks to Safari Avventura, and especially Valerio and Vincent, for crafting such a phenomenal and varied adventure. They made our Tanzania trip truly unforgettable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our safaris in Tarangire and Ngorongoro, along with our visit to a Maasai village. Adlif was an amazing guide—extremely kind and attentive. Thanks to him, our first trip to Tanzania turned into a treasured memory that we will hold dear forever. We also appreciate our driver for the many hours spent behind the wheel. Heartfelt thanks—Asante.

I completed this hike with Daudi in August. If you're in Lake Natron and physically capable, this is something highly recommended. While the hike can be tough at times, following the guide's advice and taking suggested breaks makes it manageable. For instance, we had two separate hour-long sleep breaks—one at the halfway point and another just before the sunrise summit. The views inside the volcano were breathtaking, and descending gave us stunning vistas of the Rift Valley. It was extremely windy at the summit, so we didn’t linger long. The descent was quick, taking only 1 hour 45 minutes. The cost was $123.60, paid to Daudi in shillings, who handled the payment with the community center on my behalf. After reading other Tripadvisor reviews, I found Daudi. I initially reached him via WhatsApp at +255689061217, but due to issues with that phone, his new number is 0717282287. Daudi was outstanding throughout the entire experience—from efficiently planning the trip in our initial communication to helping with local fees at the community center. He even provided a fellow Maasai to watch over my car while we hiked and expertly guided us on the challenging drive to the volcano base. His experience was invaluable, as straying off the beaten path while driving can quickly lead to getting stuck in the sand (some visitors have reportedly been trapped for up to nine hours). Daudi’s guidance and control were crucial in navigating safely to the parking area. As a former Tanzanian soldier, I trusted and felt confident in him, and we enjoyed swapping stories during the trek. The next day, Daudi took my partner and me to a fantastic viewing spot at Lake Natron to admire the scenery and observe flamingos. He educated us about various animal tracks, and the trip ended on a delightful note when we encountered some giraffes on our way back. Daudi ensured we could view them safely. Overall, it was an incredible activity that I wholeheartedly recommend. "Soldiers never fail" - Daudi.

We were very eager to visit this volcano, but had very little time. Several companies turned us down, but guide Emanuel agreed to our plan. He organized everything perfectly and was constantly supportive during both the ascent and descent. What we saw at the top was worth all the effort! The incredible view, boiling lava, and tongues of flame from the volcano's crater were absolutely breathtaking. I recommend everyone to visit this place. Emanuel also leads tours to Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Someday, I’ll definitely climb Kilimanjaro with him!

Overall, I had an incredible safari experience. The wildlife and scenery were breathtaking, and our guide, Daniel, did a fantastic job ensuring we saw everything we hoped to see. Once inside the parks, the experience was truly memorable. However, there are a few things I wish had been communicated better beforehand, especially for solo travelers joining various groups. For example, I didn’t realize the parks were so large or how long it would take to travel between them and within areas like central Serengeti to northern Serengeti. Some days required 12–14+ hours of driving over rough terrain, which became quite exhausting. If feasible, I’d recommend flying directly into the Serengeti instead of flying into Arusha or Kilimanjaro and spending hours driving to the parks. Personally, I would skip Tarangire if your itinerary already includes Serengeti and Ngorongoro. I felt I saw everything I wanted in these two parks, and removing another park could save significant driving time. Unfortunately, our vehicle broke down twice, which Daniel assured us was rare, though it added to the travel fatigue. All drivers hired are mechanics, allowing them to fix cars on the road—helpful, as there were many broken-down cars around. However, with six guests, a guide, a chef, and all our luggage, food, and camping supplies packed into one vehicle, it felt quite cramped. If possible, a group of four would be far more comfortable. Being a solo traveler joining different groups added logistical challenges with pickups and drop-offs. Booking through a travel agent instead of directly meant I relied on them for details and didn’t always have a clear idea of daily activities, which likely contributed to some communication hiccups. My accommodations were changed from Mvuli to Fanaka, which wasn’t great, for easier travel logistics. While I understood the reasoning, I wish I had been informed sooner. Accommodations vary widely, so ensure you fully understand what you’re booking. Some are very basic, and certain group members were unprepared for pitched tents at public campsites. If your itinerary states “camping,” clarify whether that means permanent tented lodges or actual tents at public campsites, along with details about bathrooms, showers, bedding, and facilities. Hot water is limited at some accommodations, often lasting only minutes, so use it wisely and wash hair first. On a positive note, the Sightseeing Lodge in Serengeti and Serena Lodge in Ngorongoro were phenomenal. The staff were outstanding, the settings were extraordinary, and being inside or near the parks made a big difference. I stayed in both accommodations solo while my group stayed elsewhere, but they were welcoming and luxurious. Sightseeing Lodge features luxury tents with functional toilets, indoor/outdoor showers, and guards to escort guests at night due to nearby wildlife like buffalos and monkeys. You can hear animals at night wherever you stay, so I suggest bringing earplugs or a sound machine if you’re noise-sensitive. Others in my group struggled to sleep because of wildlife sounds and voices at tent sites. Serena Lodge’s location on the Ngorongoro Crater rim provides stunning views with monkeys, elephants, and other animals visible from your room. I highly recommend staying here for more than one night and even taking a break from safari to relax—it's truly gorgeous. The meals prepared by Chef Rashid were simple but delicious, typically consisting of chicken, vegetables, rice, chapati, and fruit. If you’re specific about coffee, bring your own packets, as alternative milk wasn’t available on the trip. Some practical travel tips I learned: · Carry cash before leaving Arusha for tips, small purchases, and unexpected expenses. · Pack all essentials in advance—park entrances only have souvenir shops, and even something like toothpaste could lead to a lengthy detour. Note, Arusha Airport lacked stores for last-minute buys. · Ngorongoro can get cold, so dress warmly. · Choose fitted hiking or travel pants to avoid dragging in dust or wet bathroom floors. For women, I suggest carrying female pee cups with absorbent pads for squat toilets. · Pack a bandana for hair/mouth, wet wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer, and allergy medication. Nasal saline rinse is great if you have dust sensitivities. · Bring electrolyte packets, a pocket fan, and cooling towels. · Download audiobooks and podcasts beforehand since roads are too bumpy for reading, and conversations can be difficult due to noise. WiFi and service are spotty, so streaming isn’t reliable—my Solis hotspot didn’t help much either. · Leave extra early for the airport, as traffic can be overwhelming. A ride meant to take 40 minutes took us over two hours, and I nearly missed my flight. Despite logistical difficulties, the safari itself was incredible and absolutely worth it. Daniel was a dedicated guide who worked hard to ensure the best wildlife sightings. Alex and his team were also very responsive and kind, addressing questions or issues genuinely. My concerns largely stem from unclear expectations and logistical communication rather than the people themselves. Ultimately, my biggest advice is to ask for an extremely detailed itinerary if booking via a third-party travel agent. Confirm accommodations, clarify camping options, driving distances, group size, pickup/drop-off logistics, airport transfers, and meal arrangements. Knowing what I do now, I’d focus less on packing in many parks and spend more time in or near Serengeti. Once there, the incredible wildlife and scenery truly make the trip unforgettable.

We recently completed the sunrise hike up Ol Doinyo Lengai with our Maasai guide, Yohanna. He met us during dinner to introduce himself and go over the gear and schedule. Following his advice, we began our ascent from the mountain's base at 11 PM, which allowed us to reach the summit by 5:20 AM, just in time for first light and sunrise. Yohanna proved to be an excellent and highly experienced guide, showcasing remarkable knowledge of the safest routes for hikers of our ability. (He undertakes this climb every few weeks with groups during the dry season.) He was patient and encouraging, ensuring we took our time, rested when needed, and fueled up with food and water to maintain our energy – pole pole! During our ascent, rest stops turned into memorable moments, as we talked about Maasai culture, admired the incredible starlit sky free from light pollution, and watched the lights of other groups making their way up. Though "old but strong," we were the first group to reach the summit in complete darkness. We then explored the volcano rim to the sunrise side, all while listening to the gurgling sounds of the active volcano. At the summit, we layered up to keep warm, marveled at the stars, and took in a breathtaking sunrise. When the clouds finally cleared, we were astounded by how steep and far the land descended below us! The hike itself, both the ascent and descent, was steep and challenging, with plenty of loose stones. It was by no means easy; we didn't finish until 11:15 AM, completing a grueling 12-hour nighttime hike without sleep. Looking back, I realize I should have prepared more and not solely relied on my usual fitness level. Regardless, it was an incredible achievement and a thrilling adventure that we could not have done without Yohanna's expertise, care, and guidance. We highly recommend him!

We went on an amazing hike with our guide Abraham. On our way to the volcano, we were lucky enough to spot a striped hyena. At the summit, we saw both a klipspringer and an eland, which we decided to nickname Abraham the Eland (not to be confused with the incredible Abraham the human). I’d absolutely recommend this hike with Abraham—he’s so patient and never tires of answering all your questions.

My father and I spent 9 incredible days exploring Tanzania, and we couldn't have wished for a better experience. Right from the start, the team was remarkably helpful, responsive, and transparent, which made the planning process smooth and hassle-free. Everything was impeccably arranged, including the lodges and camps, along with a variety of activities like unforgettable safaris, Lake Natron, and climbing Ol Doinyo Lengai. Having a private guide throughout the trip lent a personal touch to the experience, and by the end of the journey, he felt more like a friend than just a guide. We always felt secure, well-cared-for, and sincerely welcomed by everyone we encountered. Thank you for creating such a remarkable adventure—we would gladly book with you again and wholeheartedly recommend you to anyone visiting Tanzania!

We’ve had an excellent experience with Golden Trips so far. Tarangire was stunning, featuring some amazing wildlife sightings, including a very young elephant alongside its mother. The Serengeti has been a major highlight: we witnessed a lioness hunting, spotted cheetahs twice, and saw a leopard resting on a rock. Although we tried to catch the migration at the river, luck wasn’t on our side that morning. One of the most unforgettable moments was the night hike on Ol Doinyo Lengai. Though physically challenging, it was truly breathtaking and something we’ll cherish for years to come. We also appreciated the organization's flexibility, especially when we raised concerns about one of the camps. They resolved the issue by arranging alternative accommodation for two nights at no extra cost. The replacement camp was in a fantastic location and, more importantly for us, exceptionally clean. We were very impressed by how the situation was handled. Communication throughout the trip has been excellent, with prompt responses to our questions and genuine efforts to accommodate our requests. While we still have the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar to explore, we’re thrilled with the itinerary, organization, and experiences so far. We can’t wait for the rest of this incredible adventure!

Our safari with Gosheni was absolutely incredible from beginning to end. Everything was seamlessly organized, and it truly was the trip of a lifetime. Planning the journey with Herman was delightful—he was patient, highly responsive, and made the entire process straightforward. He carefully tailored the trip to match our preferences perfectly. Our guide, Michael, was extraordinary and made the safari unforgettable. His energy, vast knowledge, and genuine excitement elevated the experience. From dawn until dusk, he ensured we made the most of every moment, and his dedication paid off—we saw the Big Five and even witnessed the Great Migration river crossing twice in one day! Michael’s expertise went far beyond just spotting animals. Each day brought new insights as he shared fascinating details about wildlife, birds, ecosystems, and their interactions. He was happy to accommodate our pace, letting us linger when we found something captivating, and he never overlooked the smaller creatures or bird species, which made the experience even richer. Another highlight was our visit to a Maasai village, where we had the chance to dive deeper into their culture and lifestyle. Between the wildlife, landscapes, ecosystems, and cultural experiences, every moment felt fresh and enriching. The safari far surpassed all our expectations. From the flawless planning and communication to the extraordinary wildlife and cultural experiences, everything was truly outstanding. With such an exceptional guide as Michael, we couldn't have asked for anything better. We highly recommend Gosheni—especially Michael—to anyone considering a Tanzanian safari. It was an experience we will never forget!

I had a wonderful experience with Asili Explorer. We did a four-day group safari, which included a night in a lodge and two nights camping in a tent. The entire trip was seamlessly organized—Joe picked us up from the airport and even adjusted for our delayed flight when dropping us off. The safari itself was amazing, all at the most affordable option available. I highly recommend them for their professionalism and helpfulness.

We booked a tour featuring a 2-day Kilimanjaro hike followed by safari adventures. Although there was a minor issue at the beginning, Geoffrey ensured our Kili hike was enjoyable, even recovering a bag I had left behind. The highlight of the trip was meeting Hagai. He guided us through stunning places like Tarangire, Lake Natron (offering views of Oi Doiyon Lengai from a distance), Ngorongoro Crater/Caldera, and the Serengeti. Hagai’s deep knowledge of the regions, Maasai culture, animal migration patterns, diets, and more made the experience truly unforgettable. His calm, pressure-free guidance and expertise stood out. I highly recommend Hagai to anyone planning a visit to Arusha and the Serengeti area—tip generously as guides like him are rare gems!

Our Tanzania safari with Marvels of Africa surpassed all expectations. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, covering Ngorongoro Crater, Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti, and a visit to a Maasai village. The accommodations were excellent, and everything was seamlessly coordinated. The wildlife experience was extraordinary—26 lions, 3 leopards, 12 cheetahs, 2 rhinos, and countless elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, topis, antelopes, warthogs, and more. Highlights included a lion drinking water, a large lion pride with cubs, a leopard with its kill in a tree, and a cheetah mother with her week-old cubs. In Northern Serengeti, the Great Migration river crossings were a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle we were lucky to witness multiple times. A huge part of our experience was thanks to our guide Eugen. His vast wildlife knowledge, sharp understanding of animal behavior, and incredible timing and positioning were key to these amazing sightings. He knew when to wait, when to move, and how to maximize our chances of seeing something extraordinary. Marvels of Africa excelled in planning, accommodation choices, and safari execution. Everything was flawlessly put together, allowing us to focus entirely on immersing ourselves in the adventure. From our first game drive in Ngorongoro to the predators of Central Serengeti and the Great Migration in the north, this was a Tanzania safari we will cherish forever. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing time with Joe from Asili! He went above and beyond to ensure we experienced everything we hoped for. My son was fascinated by cheetahs, and Joe made sure he got to see not just one but three! Additionally, we were upgraded to better accommodations at no extra cost. The entire experience was absolutely wonderful and surprisingly affordable (for Tanzania!). I'm now planning to climb Kilimanjaro with Joe next. Book your trip—you won't regret it!

It’s hard to express just how extraordinary our safari experience with Safari Sasa was. Our guide, Abi, showed remarkable passion and deep knowledge about all the wildlife. Choosing a top-notch guide is crucial for a safari, and Abi truly exceeded expectations. He knew precisely where to go and the best times to spot specific animals, often even assisting other guides with advice. Thanks to him, we saw everything we’d hoped for. Our family is deeply grateful for choosing Safari Sasa!

Our experience was absolutely fantastic—we saw all the animals we hoped for and more, including leopards, rhinos, jaguars, many giraffes, elephants, and hippos. The accommodations were excellent, especially Suricata Boma Lodge and Warriors Luxury Rented Lodge. Everything was perfectly organized, and the operator who arranged it all was exceptionally kind and friendly. Big thanks to Glory! Our driver was also incredibly accommodating and ensured we saw all the animals in the best possible way (even the tricky ones). He drove safely, even on the rough Serengeti roads. Thank you so much, Bayona!

We opted for the 5-day/4-night package covering Ngarere NP, Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro Crater NP, and Lake Manyara. It was a fantastic experience where we got to see the Big Five and many other animals. The tour guide was great, and the hotels were good, except for Ngare Lodge. The airport transfers were smooth, and the tour reception was very welcoming. Overall, it was an excellent experience. Highly recommended tour group.

The three of us (my husband, our 16-year-old son, and I) went on an 8-day safari. Chris, our guide and driver, was excellent—very friendly, humorous, and knowledgeable. The trip was well-organized, and we always stayed on schedule, which suited us Swiss perfectly :-). Chris drove safely on the adventurous roads and had a great instinct for spotting animals (we saw the Big Five and many more). He surprised us with a visit to a Maasai village, which we loved, and a trip to the market in Karatu was another highlight. We highly recommend Chris and his team to anyone who values quality, respects nature during a safari, and is curious to learn about the country and its people.

We recently wrapped up an amazing 15-day safari through Kenya and Tanzania, organized by African Budget Safaris and executed flawlessly by Asili Adventure Safaris. They provided an honest, personalized approach and made us feel like family. Their camaraderie with other drivers on the road, assisting with everything from wildlife sightings to tire changes, was inspiring. · *Kenya's Guide (Lawince):** Lawince demonstrated profound respect for wildlife and an uncanny ability to spot even the most camouflaged animals. His vast knowledge of the Maasai Mara enriched every moment, and he expertly adapted our schedule to match recent sightings and our group’s pace. · *Tanzania's Guide (Clever):** Clever was like an endless source of knowledge. He identified plants and animals by their English, scientific, and tribal names with ease. His skills with bird identification, including mimicking bird calls and using the Merlin App, were incredible. He navigated the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro Crater with remarkable expertise. · *2. Wildlife & Game Drives** We approached the game drives with an open mind, treating each sighting as a gift. Thanks to our guides, we saw the "Big Five" multiple times, cheetahs with cubs, elephant herds, countless bird species, and even the "Ugly Five." A hot air balloon safari was a spectacular highlight and highly recommended. · *Traveler Tip:** Trust your guides regarding your daily schedule. Opt for full-day game drives with packed lunches to maximize your experience. Though the days are long, they’re absolutely rewarding. · *3. Pre-Trip Tips: What Worked** Traveling during the shoulder season in late May proved ideal—low crowds and better rates enhanced our overall experience. · *Essential Gear Recommendations:** · **Electronics:** Invest in quality binoculars, cameras with both wide-angle and zoom lenses, a dust blower, and durable protective covers. · **Luggage:** Lightweight, waterproof duffel bags are best for safeguarding your belongings from dust and potential moisture. · **Clothing & Footwear:** Convertible safari shirts and pants, layering with breathable clothing, and comfortable shoes with quick entry made the long days manageable. · **Dust & Bugs:** Treat clothing with Permethrin, pack Picaridin spray, and use moisturizing eye drops, sunscreen, and a neck buff for protection against dust. · **Hygiene & Health:** Reusable water bottles, wet wipes, a portable female urination device, laundry sheets, and a small supply of OTC medications are invaluable. A huge thanks to Asili Adventure Safaris for an impeccably organized, once-in-a-lifetime journey that will forever hold a special place in our hearts!

This is my second trip with Gabriele Brown at Urth Expedition. My first experience was in 2024 traveling to Tanzania, and my most recent one was in April 2026 to Tuscany, Italy. Gabriele is incredibly hands-on, caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. Everything she organizes, from excursions and accommodations to transfers, meals, and overall value, has been outstanding. I'm already looking forward to booking another trip with her!

I had the best experience with Navio Safari. I booked a tour to climb Oldonyo Lengai, a volcano near Arusha city. Everything was well-organized - my guide Johnson picked me up at the agreed location, we drove to the volcano, climbed it, and returned. It was truly the most breathtaking and wild encounter with nature I’ve ever had; absolutely stunning! The organizers, Eric and Johnson from Navio, were some of the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve met. They are polite, friendly, and highly professional. I highly recommend giving them a try if you're in Arusha and looking for a safari adventure!

Diana Tanzania Safaris offers a six-day safari tour that’s truly spectacular. Watching the sunrise and wildebeest roam across the expansive Serengeti savannah is an indescribable experience. Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro are equally breathtaking. The driver was highly experienced and accommodating. Everything was clean and comfortable. A standout memory for our family was visiting the Maasai Cultural Village. Both the food and service were outstanding, making the experience well worth the money.
