Starting early in the morning from Adelaide, the sky was tinged with a soft peach hue. We headed along the southern scenic route towards Cape Jervis, ready to board the SeaLink ferry to Kangaroo Island. Along the way, the typical South Australian pastures and rolling hills outside the car window gradually set the tone for a relaxed day ahead. 🚢 SeaLink Ferry: The journey begins with the sea breeze Upon reaching the terminal, we drove our car directly onto the ferry, and the entire process was incredibly smooth. The voyage took about 45 minutes, with the sea so calm it resembled a glass surface. Occasionally, seabirds flew overhead, as if welcoming us to the island. Arriving at Penneshaw, you could truly feel the "escape from the city" atmosphere—cleaner and purer air. 🦘 First Stop: Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park Our first destination was the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. Kangaroos hopped leisurely at our feet, and we even got to feed them by hand. Some were lazy, others curious, and being up close, it suddenly made sense why Australians often feature kangaroos as their icons—they are truly charismatic and full of personality. 🦭 Second Stop: Seal Bay — The Kingdom of Sea Lions on White Sands Next, we headed to the most anticipated spot on Kangaroo Island: Seal Bay Conservation Park. Despite its name, Seal Bay, the island is actually home to Australian Sea Lions. While the name includes "Seal," what you’ll see are not seals but sea lions with external ear flaps, capable of standing upright on their forelimbs, and adorably clumsy movements. Most sea lions were sprawled out on the sand, sound asleep, while a few played, tumbled, and chased each other by the shore. Some stretched lazily, shook off water, or clumsily bumped into each other. Their goofy and endearing antics were so natural and free, making it hard to look away. This is one of the few remaining habitats for sea lions in the world, and being able to see them up close is one of Kangaroo Island’s most precious experiences. 🍽 Lunch: Simple, Comfortable, with a Touch of Sea Breeze After leaving Seal Bay, we had a light meal at a nearby town café. Fish and chips, sandwiches, and hot coffee—simple flavors, but with the island’s sunshine and sea breeze, everything tasted better. 🌅 Return Journey: A Golden Sea on the Ferry In the evening, we took the SeaLink ferry back to the mainland. The sunset turned the entire sea into a golden hue, providing a perfect ending to our day trip. The World Herritage listed Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park is the first place we hit when we got into WA. We packed the swags, kids and esky and spent two nights in this majestic part of Western Australia. We put in a huge day and hiked close to 10km overall including Harrison (5)👏. We kicked it off with Mini Palms Gorge, then into Echidna for the middle of the day and wrapped things up at Cathedral Gorge. We can't wait to see what the next 6 months in WA looks like. If this is anything to go by, it's going to be EPIC🤩.

Pink Lake, like a strawberry milk, is a large production area for the circle of friends. After the sister verification, I will tell you: it is really powder, not PS! Pink Lake's official name is actually called "Spencer Lake", but the name "Pink Lake" is more familiar. Compared to Lake Hillier and Hutt Lagoon, Pink Lake is not so well known. Although her name is Pink Lake, it is not pink for most of the time. Only when the weather conditions are right, the lake will show some pink, and the highly dense salt-tolerant algae in the lake is the cause of the pink lake. So the most direct "Pink Lake" of this name is actually the most unworthy one. If you want to see the pink lake, maybe it will disappoint you here. However, since I came to Esperance, it is better to come here and try my luck. After all, Pink Lake is not as far-sighted as Hillier. The lake is surrounded by a circle of sandy beaches and eucalyptus trees with beautiful scenery. Walk to the Lake Lookout to see the huge salt piles and the best views. A pair of sunglasses on the front of the camera will create an amazing effect, with a polarizing filter for better results. Good luck, I am lucky to see the pinkest pink lake!

#holidayitinerary Blowhole Beach is one of those tucked-away spots that feels like a bit of a secret. It’s down in Deep Creek National Park and getting there is half the adventure, a steep dirt track that’s 4WD-only if you want to drive all the way down. We parked up top and hiked in, which was steep but totally doable, and the views along the way were epic. Once you hit the beach, it’s this perfect little bay with soft sand, clear water, and barely anyone around. The waves can be a bit strong, so it’s more splash and chill than proper swim depending on the day. There are also some rocky bits on the side where you can explore or just sit and watch the ocean. No shops or facilities nearby, so bring water, snacks, and all your beach gear. Good shoes for the hike too. If you’re down on the Fleurieu Peninsula and want something a bit off the beaten path, Blowhole Beach is a solid pick.

#holidayitinerary The Bunda Cliffs are seriously wild. It's just this massive wall of limestone stretching for miles, dropping straight into the Southern Ocean. We stopped at a couple of the roadside lookouts along the Eyre Highway, and each one felt more dramatic than the last. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel tiny in the best way. There’s not much around, just raw coastline, sea breeze, and endless views. If you're lucky (and there at the right time of year), you might spot whales cruising along the base of the cliffs. We didn’t, but it was still totally worth it. The lookouts are easy to access by car, and you can park right near the edge. No fences or rails though, so watch your step if it’s windy. Bring water and snacks because there are zero facilities out there. It’s a classic stop if you’re crossing the Nullarbor, short, simple, but absolutely unforgettable. Just you, the cliffs, and that massive blue ocean.

#holidayitinerary Gammon Ranges National Park in South Australia is one of those wild, rugged places that makes you feel like you’ve dropped off the edge of the world. It’s super remote, which is half the charm. We spent a couple of days camping, hiking, and just soaking up the raw, rocky beauty. The terrain is rough, full of gorges, dry creek beds, and some crazy rock formations. Don’t expect phone signal or fancy facilities, it’s proper outback. If you’re into bushwalking, there are some challenging tracks around Mount McKinlay and Weetootla Gorge. Bring a proper 4WD and lots of water because this park doesn’t mess around. We hardly saw another soul the entire trip, which made it feel even more epic. The views from some of the higher trails are just stunning, especially at sunrise. Definitely not for the unprepared, but if you’re looking for a quiet, off-grid escape with serious outback vibes, Gammon Ranges is the real deal.

Lake MacDonnell in South Australia has been in my bucket list for quite sometime and I got finally the chance to see it with my eyes! It is quite impressive. You can see 3 distinct colours in the lake, an aqua colour for the piece of water straight in front of me in the picture, a different blue-green colour on my left and the great pink colour on my right. Pros of this amazing place: it is an incredible pleasant view for the eyes. It is pink! You are in the beautiful Eyre Peninsula, full of sand dunes and water. You feel in pace with yourself and nature (you are quite isolated in the area). Cons: it is a very long drive from Adelaide. It is definitely worth a visit but you have to be prepared to drive long hours and have a 4 wheel drive car (the final 20 minutes of the drive is unsealed).
