I went to Seohyun Station with a friend, Lazymint Cafe!! It's Halloween👻🎃season right now, so various spots are decorated with Halloween props. Jingpo Lake, China's largest volcanic barrier lake, is located in Mudanjiang City. We drove there with our elderly parents and four-year-old, stayed overnight in the scenic area, and had a fantastic experience! There are tons of evening shows during the summer holidays; the iron-sparkling performance was so amazing it made the kids scream, the song and dance performances were lively and fun, and there was even a super high-energy dance party at the end – the whole family had a blast! 🚗Transportation: Driving is the most convenient option, allowing for more flexibility with a child and less rushing. There are also day-trip buses from Mudanjiang Railway Station, suitable for families without a car. 🎫Tickets: 100 RMB (unlimited entry within two days) Children under 1.2 meters and seniors over 65 are free – super value! Boat ticket: NT$100 (half the lake), a super pleasant boat ride with kids! Sightseeing bus: NT$30 (24-hour unlimited rides), kids can sit anytime they get tired, saving you time and effort. Main family-friendly attractions Boat ride: Take the sightseeing bus to the pier. Online tickets need to be exchanged for paper tickets. Buying a ticket for half the lake is enough. A round trip takes 1.5 hours, just right for a child's attention span. The best viewing spot is on the second floor, but it can get sunny in summer, so remember to make sure your child wears a hat and sunscreen. Fried red-tailed fish and watermelon were sold on the boat; the prices were reasonable, and the kids could try something new and get some energy. Diaoshuilou Waterfall There's a diving performance by Mr. Di Huanran every day at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. This 60-something-year-old gentleman is incredibly fit; the kids watched intently. If you're lucky, you might even see him free soloing, giving the kids a sense of perseverance. Because we were staying overnight at the scenic area, we missed the diving performance on the first day. That evening, we took the kids to see the waterfall and unexpectedly encountered a stunning pink sunset. The kids excitedly shouted, "So beautiful!" Every snapshot was a gorgeous family photo. It rained in the middle of the night, and the next day the waterfall's water volume increased significantly, and the smaller waterfalls on both sides also opened up—it was incredibly impressive! The sight was breathtaking! It was the first time my child had seen such a large waterfall; their eyes were wide with amazement. The awe-inspiring power of this natural landscape is far more meaningful than any textbook lesson. Regarding food and accommodation: We stayed at a hotel within the scenic area, in a lake-view room. The view from the window was stunning. The next morning, we took the kids for a walk along the lake. The air was fresh, and the kids could run and play freely – it was so relaxing! There's a restaurant downstairs at the hotel, and they also have group-buying deals. We tried several kinds of fish from the lake; they were delicious, reasonably priced, and the kids loved them! If you plan to stay for two days, you can stay outside the scenic area. The ticket allows unlimited entry for two days, and the sightseeing bus is valid 24 hours a day. I went to Shenyang-Harbin-Mudanjiang-Changchun at the beginning of the year. I was super anxious before the trip, as many people suggested the "sandwich" layering method, but it turns out it's not that complicated at all! The coldest morning was in Harbin (I tried it once and haven't gone out in the morning since), and I managed to withstand 25°C! 【Real-world Warmth Rules】 1️⃣ Upper Body: Long down jacket + thermal underwear, enough and doesn't make you look bulky - Down jacket (long, with ample down filling) - One thermal underwear + long down jacket for the whole trip (enough if you don't go out in the morning/don't go to the Ice and Snow World) - I brought fleece, but it wasn't necessary at all. I only wore an extra Fair Isle sweater for photos at Hengdaohezi. 2️⃣ Lower Body: One pair of cotton-padded pants + outer pants - I bought these Northeast-style cotton-padded pants online for 42 RMB, and wore sweatpants over them. - I didn't wear thermal underwear the whole trip, and my legs didn't feel cold even on the coldest mornings. - My friend bought thermal underwear online for xxx g, but it was too tight and not warm enough, so I decisively ordered these cotton-padded pants. 3️⃣ Footwear: Regular snow boots + over-the-knee socks + gaiters - Buy snow boots one size larger and add a plush insole. Since my padded pants were quite loose, I wore over-the-knee socks. Gaiters prevent snow from getting into the boots (this is unnecessary; there's usually no snow on the streets of Harbin). - Don't buy expensive shoes; disposable shoes are fine. 4️⃣ Small Items: Simple but practical - Face mask is essential (don't remove it unless absolutely necessary in strong winds). - Gloves are a must (knitted gloves are nice but not warm enough). - Scarf (for neck protection from the wind). - Choose a hat that covers the ears/is double-layered and thick (preferably with ties to prevent it from flying off during activities). - Ear clips (uncomfortable; only used for photos; a normal hat will cover them). - Hand warmers were brought but not used. The Arbat in Mudanjiang is a vibrant, beautiful, and intimate street. Some simply call it a pedestrian street. The Arbat is located in the city center, parallel to the main thoroughfare. How to get there? If you arrived by train, exit the train station and cross the street. You'll immediately see a tall hotel called Siruda. This is where the long pedestrian street begins. The Arbat is very long, with a variety of shops to suit every budget. You can buy everything for 1, 2, or 6 yuan. There are also cafes and restaurants on the Arbat. The food is delicious and unusual.
