This time, I visited the Starbucks Coffee at Nago 21st Century Forest Park Akemio Terrace. If you’re planning a road trip through Northern Okinawa, I think this Starbucks is worth carving out some dedicated time for. Because here, they aren't just selling coffee. On both sides of the entrance, you’ll find the iconic Okinawan Shisa (guardian lions). The familiar STARBUCKS sign, paired with the representative Shisa and that impossibly blue ocean nearby, makes the entrance a photo spot all on its own. But the real surprise comes once you step inside. ⸻ 🌊 These floor-to-ceiling windows are the real star of the show The highlight of the shop is the long row of massive windows facing the coast. When you sit down, there’s almost nothing blocking your view. The beach, the water, the distant mountains, and the massive clouds in the sky look like a giant natural painting hung right outside the glass. Photos really can’t do justice to the feeling of being there. The Okinawan sea isn’t just one shade of blue; it shifts from a pale light blue near the shore to a Tiffany-green tint, then slowly deepens into a rich navy in the distance. When the sun breaks through the clouds, the colors of the water change right before your eyes. Sitting by the window with a coffee, watching people stroll on the sand or play in the water with mountains in the distance... In moments like these, you realize— Travel doesn’t have to be about a packed itinerary every day. Simply being able to sit and watch the ocean is a destination in itself. ⸻ 🏖️ Finish your coffee and walk straight onto the beach One of the biggest charms of this Starbucks is the lack of distance between it and the beach. Looking out from the shop, all you see is sand. After you finish your drink, you can head straight out for a walk. Stroll along the coast with grass, sand, and sea on one side and sleek modern architecture on the other. There’s no pressure to "complete a mission" like at major tourist spots. Take a photo if you want, or just stop to look at the sea. On a clear day, with the blue sky, white clouds, and ocean all appearing at once, it feels like the ultimate Okinawa vacation. The sky I encountered this time was even more dramatic. Massive clouds hovered over the mountains, with a patch of deep blue sky peeking through, and sunlight occasionally piercing the clouds to light up the water. The Starbucks sign at the entrance flanked by Shisa is a classic Okinawa shot. Inside, you definitely need a photo of the large windows facing the coast—use the darker interior as a foreground frame to capture the bright blue seascape perfectly. Once you step outside, it’s a whole different vibe. You can capture the Starbucks logo, the vast lawn, Okinawan flora, the beach, and the ocean all in one frame. I particularly love the "half architecture, half ocean" composition. On our recent Okinawa road trip, we made a special detour to "Ufuya" (百年古家 大家) in Nago. It’s a stunning restaurant set in a century-old Ryukyu folk house, tucked away deep in the Nago forest. The drive alone sets the mood! The restaurant is a collection of historic wooden houses relocated from across Okinawa, featuring classic red-tiled roofs, a beautiful garden, and even a small waterfall right by the dining area. We went for their signature Agu pork. This was my second time here, and I still can’t get over how incredibly tender and light the meat is—it’s not greasy at all and has such a unique texture. The pork dumplings are a must-try too! The whole place is so peaceful, with shrines and torii gates perfect for photos, plus a lush Japanese garden that’s lovely for a post-meal stroll. ⛩️🌿 Just a heads-up: there’s no public transport or monorail nearby, so you definitely need to drive. It’s also super popular, so I highly recommend booking a table on their official website in advance to avoid a long wait. We had a fantastic time! However, since it's such a popular tourist destination, there are actually very convenient bus routes to all the famous attractions. There are even many one-day passes available. If it's your first time visiting Okinawa, you can just buy the Okinawa Fun Pass. Why do I recommend this pass? Because 90% of the included attractions are accessible by public transport, with convenient and frequent schedules. Plus, using this pass can significantly cut down on ticket costs, so I highly recommend it. Day 1: After arriving at the airport, take the monorail to your downtown hotel, and explore Kokusai Dori in the evening. Note: If your flight arrives in the afternoon, you can choose to stay in American Village to make the next day's trip to Churaumi Aquarium easier. Of course, since you aren't driving, I recommend staying at a hotel near Kokusai Dori for the entire trip. This is the most convenient option, as you won't have to lug your bags around, and catching buses is a breeze. Day 2: Churaumi Aquarium + Cape Manzamo. You can use the Okinawa Fun Pass for all of this. Tickets are included, and the bus route is very straightforward, saving you from unnecessary detours. Day 3: Nago Pineapple Park + American Village. In the morning, take a bus to the Pineapple Park for a half-day visit, then catch another bus to experience American Village at night. It's absolutely stunning, which is why it draws such a crowd. Buses run until 9 PM, making it super easy to head back to your downtown hotel afterward. Day 3: Gyokusendo Cave + Ou Island. These spots are also easily accessible by bus and are located in the same direction, making for a smooth, full-day itinerary. Day 4: DMM Kariyushi Aquarium, Itoman Market, and Toyosaki Seaside Park. I guarantee you'll want to spend the entire day here. You can stroll through supermarkets and department stores, and enjoy the free beach. Day 5: Naminoue Shrine + Senagajima. Since you're flying out on Day 5, lugging baggage around can be a hassle. I recommend leaving your luggage at the hotel early in the morning and heading to Naminoue Shrine to snap some photos. Afterward, pick up your bags, drop them off in an airport coin locker, and head to Senagajima. It's gorgeous there and perfect for capturing stunning, Instagram-worthy shots. Once you're done, head back to the airport.

Danbo Ramen Nago Branch 🍜 Located in downtown Nago, this Danbo Ramen branch has its own dedicated parking lot right out front, making it super convenient for those on a road trip. We arrived around 5:30 PM that day, perfectly avoiding the dinner rush, and were seated immediately without any wait. The whole dining pace was very relaxed. After entering, you use the automatic ticket vending machine to order, which is quick and easy, and then the friendly staff guides you to your seat. The interior is neat and clean, and there's a self-serve water dispenser off to the side 🚰. Overall, the dining experience here offers great bang for your buck. As for the food, I went with the visually striking "Rekka Ramen" this time. The noodles were exactly the thin type I personally prefer, with a firm bite that perfectly soaked up the broth.
