Ainokura, along with nearby Suganuma and Shirakawa-go, has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site of equal importance. Located deep within Gokayama, Ainokura is less accessible, with limited bus services and fewer visitors compared to the bustling Shirakawa-go. This has allowed the village to preserve its ancient traditional lifestyle and natural scenery. The village is still inhabited, and many houses have gardens where various vegetables are grown, reflecting a self-sufficient way of life. The village appears smaller in size compared to Shirakawa-go. Don't forget to climb to a higher vantage point to capture a panoramic view!

Why is everything so pretty in Japan? 🇯🇵 Last week was a little hectic but amazing. After a quick visit to #nara , its beautiful dears and the impressive temples, it was time to hike the #kumanokodo pilgrimage route in the #wakayama prefecture. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t helping much so could only complete part of the trail 😅 (a good excuse to come back again, I guess). The scenery was still amazing and some of the temples and pagodas are breathtaking (especially the #seigantojipagoda with the #nachifalls at the back). #nagoya was fun. The #ghiblipark in Nagoya was everything I hoped for. Finally the rural Japan towards the end of the week, visiting the #gifu prefecture, the #unescoworldheritage #ainokuravillage and #shirakawa -go. The snow was still in the area and the hosts were so sweet and friendly. And to conclude the prefect trip…. the #sakura finally appeared in Nagoya. Japanese people gathered around at the park and celebrate the festival (it’s called #hanami ) and it’s such a nice experience. Yeah, everything is sooo pretty in Japan. 🥰

Toyama, Japan is located in the center of the Japanese archipelago and the central north of Honshu. It borders Niigata Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture to the east, Gifu Prefecture to the south, and Ishikawa Prefecture to the west. Here are some recommended tourist attractions in Toyama, Japan: · Natural Landscapes · Tateyama Kurobe: Known as the "Japanese Alps" and "Japan's Last Secret Place", you can enjoy the spectacular snow wall wonders in spring. The snow wall can reach a height of tens of meters. Visitors can take a variety of transportation such as alpine cable cars and environmentally friendly tunnel buses to travel through it. In summer, the mountains are surrounded by lush vegetation; in autumn, the red leaves and the first snow on the mountain tops complement each other. · Ameharu Coast: It is part of the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park and features fine sandy beaches, tall pine trees and the majestic Tateyama mountain range. On a clear winter day, you can clearly see the snow-capped Tateyama mountain range across Toyama Bay, and Onnawa Rock is also very beautiful under the sunset. · History and Culture · Toyama City Museum: It displays historical relics, artworks, and folklore materials of the Toyama area. Through rich exhibits and detailed historical materials, visitors can understand the development process and cultural heritage of Toyama. The unique architectural style of the museum is also a work of art. · Gokayama Gassho Village: It has more than 20 Gassho-style buildings with a history of 200-400 years. It is famous for its steep thatched roofs with a maximum inclination of 60 degrees. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. · Urban Leisure Category · Toyama Bay: Toyama Bay has a winding coastline with many beautiful beaches and ports. The bay is rich in fishery resources, and you can taste a variety of fresh and delicious seafood. In addition, you can enjoy unique marine landscapes, such as the glowing squid that appear in certain seasons, and the sea surface will flash a mysterious blue light at night. · Takaoka Castle: It is a castle with a long history. Although most of the buildings were rebuilt later, it still retains its ancient charm. There is a museum inside the castle that displays historical artifacts and materials related to Takaoka Castle. Climb up the castle and you can overlook the city of Takaoka.

This is a hidden gassho-style village, a World Heritage Site, located about 20 minutes by car from the nearby Suganuma gassho-style village. Parking fee is 500 yen. The village has a peaceful rural landscape where you can spend your time leisurely. There are ordinary houses, guesthouses using gassho-style houses, experience centers for papermaking, and izakayas. In addition, there are several observation points in the village from which you can see the entire gassho-style village. This place is not as crowded with tourists as Shirakawa-go, so it is a good place for those who want to avoid the crowds and see the gassho-style houses. The old traditional houses are worth seeing and you can get a glimpse of life at that time. It has different charms depending on the season, so you will want to visit it again and again. Address: 939-1915 Ainokura, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture Open: 8:30 to 17:00 #Gokayama #Gassho-style #World Heritage Site #Instagrammable

#japan #Ainokura This is Ainokura village, the most remote town in gokayama region. It is also the largest of the villages with nearly 20 gassho-zukuri farmhouses. It is around half an hours bus ride away from shirakawa-go. If you think that shirakawago is a tad too crowded, ainokura is the best next option! You can take photos with the farm houses without much photo bombers. 🤣

Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village is located in the Gokayama region of Toyama Prefecture in Japan. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its traditional farmhouses which feature steep thatched roofs designed to withstand heavy winter snowfalls. This is not just a museum though, as people still live in these houses, some 300 years old, and visitors can actually stay in those overnight! It's a unique place to explore on foot, taking in the stunning natural scenery surrounding the village. Now at the beginning of April you can still catch snow in parts of the village. You should also have a go at making your very own washi paper (you will get help!) to take home with you for 700JPY, a hard roll can also be purchased for 50JPY to keep your paper safe during travels.

Visiting Gassho Village is not just about Shirakawa-go😉 Recommend a settlement with fewer tourists "Aikura Gassho-style settlement" 👍🏻 It is one of the Gassho settlements in Gokayama, located in Toyama Prefecture🌇 Gokayama is made up of the five valleys of Akao Valley, Kami-Nari Valley, Shimonoseki Valley, Odani, and Toga Valley, and the Gokadani Zone. Like Shirakawa-go, it is a world heritage site, but it is more simple and peaceful. #Aikura Gassho-style settlement #Gokayama

#Overseas Travel#Japan Travel ➡️Gokayama is located in the southwestern edge of Toyama Prefecture and is an area rich in nature. The thatched houses with a high slope are called "Gassho-zukuri". Such precious folk houses can only be seen in the mountains and snowy areas around here in Japan. ➡️In 1995, Gokayama Gassho Village and Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture were registered as World Cultural Heritage. ➡️ Gokayama is the collective name for 40 small villages

A Gassho-style village in Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture A stroll through the village in the beautiful, rustic snowy scenery, surrounded by the great nature of Toyama 🚶‍♂️ Until recently, there was no adequate transportation route, and due to the rugged terrain and heavy snowfall in winter, it was once called a hidden area 🏔 The Gassho-style houses were apparently residences and factories built for silkworm farming and for producing saltpeter, a raw material for gunpowder 🧐 Even today, the village is working together to re-thatch the thatched roofs, and the spirit of "Yui" (bonds) of people helping each other is firmly rooted, giving a sense of the old traditions and history. I did 😌 Gokayama, where you can enjoy the atmosphere of each season 👍 I'd like to visit again in a different season 🙆‍♂️ · ------------------------------------------ ▶︎Access🚗🚌 Go straight at the Gokayama IC intersection for about 2 minutes🚗 Get off at the World Heritage Bus "Gassho no Sato" bus stop or Hokuriku Railroad Expressway Bus "Gokayama Suganuma" bus stop and walk for 1 minute🚌 · ------------------------------------------ #Amazing view #Toyama #Toyama Prefecture #Shirakawa-go #Gokayama #Gassho-style building #Village #World Heritage #Japanese tradition #Snowy landscape #Winter #Amazing winter view #Camera trip #canoneoskissx9i #I love traveling #I love nature #I love history #Travel record #Travel in Japan #japan #japantravel

The mountains were really colorful and Gokayama was very beautiful✨ Shirakawa-go is famous for its Gassho-style houses, but this village is also a World Heritage Site😊 I was able to take my time strolling around and checking out the shops☺️ It's beautiful no matter when you visit because you can see the beautiful scenery of the four seasons, but if I go again next time, I'd like to see the winter scenery✨ · Gokayama (Suganuma Village) 939-1973 Suganuma, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture · 41 minutes by bus or 1 minute on foot from Johana Station · 5 minutes by car from Gokayama IC #Autumn leaves #Toyama autumn leaves #Gokayama #World Heritage Site #Gassho-style houses #Amazing scenery

#Toyama #Inami #Zuisenji Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. In the past, this town, known as Inami Town in Toyama Prefecture, was famous for wood carvings, and it was a very quiet and tranquil town. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it seems that most of the wood carvings in houses in Toyama (like the one in the first photo) were made here in Inami. I was not allowed to take photos of the craftsmen, so I didn't take any, but I couldn't help but respect the craftsmen who create such works from a single piece of wood. Also, Zuisenji Temple in Inami was built in the Muromachi period, and it was apparently the base of the Ikko Ikki uprising during the Sengoku period. It is said that this temple currently houses a painting that is believed to be of Prince Shotoku. The only way to access the temple is by car, and there are some mountain roads along the way, but there are some spectacular views in places, so why not visit while you're out for a drive? #SummerShortTrip

Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture Gokayama is relatively close to Shirakawa-go, so we visited both. Shirakawa-go is more famous, but Gokayama is also registered as a World Heritage Site together with Shirakawa-go. Like Shirakawa-go, Gokayama is a village with gassho-style houses, and there are fewer souvenir shops than Shirakawa-go, and it feels smaller, but there are fewer tourists and you can relax, so I recommend it. #summertrip#greatview

Located in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, Ainokura Gassho Village is a historic settlement registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site alongside Shirakawa-go. The panoramic vista of lush greenery harmonizing with the traditional thatched roofs is an absolute must-see. · A Peaceful Stroll Through a Quiet Village With fewer tourists than the famous Shirakawa-go, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll and experience the slow pace of life. Simply walking beneath the blue sky while taking in the verdant mountains and traditional homes is enough to clear your mind and soothe your soul. · Traditional Washi Paper Workshops and Local Dining Within the village, you’ll find facilities where you can try your hand at making Gokayama Washi (Japanese paper), as well as cafes and restaurants serving local specialties like Iwana (char fish). Please follow the designated paths, avoid entering private homes or areas, and refrain from visiting the village between sunset and dawn, as authorities have requested that no one enter the area during that time. 🤍 Suganuma may not be the largest, but its charm lies in its smallness, tranquility, and the original landscape that has been preserved to this day. #Suganuma #Gokayama #Toyama #JapanTravel

Shirakawa-go, nestled in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, is one of Japan's most beautiful and quintessential landscapes. In 1995, it was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site as "Shirakawa-go and Gokayama Gassho-zukuri Villages." Particularly famous is the Ogimachi settlement, lined with houses featuring thatched roofs. Over 100 Gassho-zukuri houses of varying sizes remain, and the fact that people still live in them is a major attraction of Shirakawa-go. 🌿 The Charm of Shirakawa-go Walking through Shirakawa-go feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The scenery created by the large triangular thatched roofs, mountains, fields, and small waterways is truly impressive. We especially recommend the view from the hilltop overlooking the village 📸 The atmosphere changes dramatically with the seasons; spring brings fresh greenery, summer offers lush rural landscapes, autumn brings vibrant foliage, and winter brings snow-covered gassho-zukuri houses, allowing you to enjoy a different kind of beauty each time you visit ❄️🍁 Furthermore, Shirakawa-go is more than just a place that displays old buildings. Because it's still a place where residents live, it has a natural atmosphere despite being a tourist destination. As you stroll through the village, you can feel the wisdom of life and architecture that has been passed down through generations. 🏡 Must-Visit Spots The "Wada House," a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, is a representative gassho-zukuri house believed to have been built approximately 300 years ago. It's a valuable building where people still live today. Also, at the "Gassho-zukuri Folk House Garden," where gassho-zukuri houses have been relocated and preserved, you can learn more about the life in Shirakawa-go in the past. 🚗 Access By car, it's about 5 minutes from the Shirakawa-go IC on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway. There is no tourist parking within the village, so please use the village-run Seseragi Park parking lot. From the parking lot, walk across the beautiful "Deai Bridge" to reach the Ogimachi village. 🌉 Parking is 2,000 yen for regular cars and 500 yen for motorcycles. Hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry 4:30 PM). By public transport, the express bus is convenient. It takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Kanazawa Station and approximately 2 hours 50 minutes from Nagoya Station. 🚌✨ ⚠️ Points to Note When Visiting Shirakawa-go is not a "tourist facility," but a village where people still live. Therefore, general tourist hours are generally from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nighttime sightseeing is not permitted except for overnight guests. When taking photographs, it is recommended to enjoy the village while respecting the lives of the residents. Shirakawa-go offers a chance to enjoy both traditional Japanese scenery and the beauty of nature throughout the seasons. It's a place perfectly described as "a quintessential Japanese landscape you'll want to experience firsthand." 🥰📸✨

Traveling from Osaka to Toyama is quite convenient despite there being no direct Shinkansen service. Take the Limited Express Thunderbird from Osaka Station to Tsuruga, then transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen to reach Toyama. The total journey takes about 2 hours 35–50 minutes with only one transfer. I recommend staying near Toyama Station for all three nights to make traveling easier and avoid moving your luggage. 📍 DAY 1: Exploring Toyama City Start your day with a signature white shrimp bowl at Shiroebi-tei. Next, take a tram to the Toyama Glass Art Museum, walk over to Toyama Castle Park, and spend your evening at Fugan Canal Kansui Park. Make sure to visit the famous Starbucks by the canal before heading back for sushi at Sushitama near the station. 🏔️ DAY 2: Tateyama–Murodo Depart from Dentetsu-Toyama early in the morning, taking a train, cable car, and Highland Bus up to Murodo. You can witness the towering snow walls in spring, or enjoy a walk around Mikurigaike from summer through autumn. It is highly recommended to book your tickets online in advance and check the weather forecast before you go. 🌊 DAY 3: Takaoka–Amaharashi Explore Zuiryu-ji Temple, the Takaoka Great Buddha, and the historic Yamachosuji district. Afterward, take the JR Himi Line to the Amaharashi Coast. The iconic view of the sea framed by the Tateyama Peaks is stunning when the weather is clear. Don't forget to check the return train schedule in advance. 🍜 DAY 4: Last-Minute Shopping Stop by the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art, try some local Toyama Black Ramen, and buy Masuzushi or white shrimp snacks at TOYAMARCHE. Finally, take the Shinkansen back to Tsuruga and transfer to the Thunderbird for your return to Osaka. Note: The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is seasonal. If you visit during the off-season, I suggest going to Gokayama or Unazuki Onsen instead.
