There are beautiful autumn places in Japan, and then there is Nikko. Here, autumn isn’t just about colorful trees. The entire landscape becomes a dramatic combination of towering mountains, deep forests, waterfalls, crystal-clear lakes and endless layers of red, orange and gold. 🍂🏔️ At Lake Chuzenji, the mountains rise dramatically behind the water, with autumn foliage covering their slopes like a giant painting. Nearby, Kegon Falls drops almost 100 meters from the lake, creating one of those views that makes you stop talking for a moment. 🌊🍁 Then there’s the winding Irohazaka road, climbing through the mountains with countless turns and changing views at every corner. In autumn, the entire valley seems to catch fire with color. What makes Nikko so impressive is the scale of it all. You’re not simply walking through a park filled with autumn trees — you’re surrounded by an entire mountain landscape changing color. 📍 Nikko, Tochigi, Japan 🍁 Best season: October–November, depending on elevation 🏔️ Highlights: Lake Chuzenji · Kegon Falls · Irohazaka · Nikko mountains #citybreakvsnatureescape

We arrived in Nikko early by train and spent the day exploring the historic area on foot. What surprised me most was how much we could see without paying an entrance fee. Here’s the route I’d recommend if you want a mix of famous sights, nature and a quieter side of Nikko. 🍮 Start with a local treat We started the day with pudding from a shop specializing in this Japanese dessert. It was SO good and definitely gave us the energy we needed for all the walking ahead. 🌉 See the famous Shinkyo Bridge From there, we walked toward Shinkyo Bridge, the iconic red bridge at the entrance to the mountains of Nikko. You can pay to cross it, but we decided it wasn't worth paying just to walk across, so we admired it from the outside and continued. 🏯 See the famous pagoda We also passed by the famous five-story pagoda near Toshogu. Even without entering the paid areas, there is plenty to see around this part of Nikko. And one thing that really impressed us was the size of the cedar trees. They make the whole area feel much more dramatic than photos suggest. 🌲 Find the quieter trail This ended up being our favorite discovery of the day. Instead of staying only around the busiest tourist attractions, we found a trail through the forest toward the Takinoo Shrine area. Suddenly, the atmosphere completely changed. There were very few people, enormous cedar trees, stone stairways, small shrines and little waterfalls along the way. We even came across a little bridge with a tradition involving counting your steps as you crossed it. We also saw people stopping along the trail to pray for good health, children and other blessings. That made the walk feel like more than just a hike. We were passing through places that people still visit for very personal reasons. ⛩️ Explore Takinoo Shrine The trail eventually leads toward Takinoo Shrine, tucked away among the cedar trees. The shrine is associated with prayers for marriage, pregnancy and childbirth, and there are several small spots around the shrine connected to different blessings. The area was incredibly peaceful when we visited. And the best part? We hadn't planned on finding this trail at all. It was almost empty, surrounded by huge trees, little shrines and waterfalls. Honestly, finding this trail was one of the best surprises of our day in Nikko. 🏔️ Walk back toward the station After exploring the trail, we made our way back toward the station. The mountains in the background were beautiful, and after spending hours surrounded by trees and shrines, it was nice to slow down and simply enjoy the scenery. 💡 A few things to know 🥾 Wear comfortable shoes. This is a walking-heavy day, especially if you explore the forest trails. ⏰ Start early if you want to enjoy the quieter areas without crowds. And try to go on a weekday. 💰 You don't need to pay an entrance fee to enjoy many of the historic and natural areas we visited. 🌲 Don't just follow the busiest tourist route. Some of our favorite moments came from exploring the quieter trail we discovered along the way. 🏛️ One place I wish I had visited There was one place I didn't get to see: the Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa. It was built as a retreat for Emperor Taisho and combines Edo, Meiji and Taisho architectural styles. If I went back, I would definitely try to add it to the itinerary. Our entire day was basically a combination of famous landmarks, giant cedar trees, tiny shrines, waterfalls, mountains and a really good pudding. And we didn't pay an entrance fee for any of it. If you have one day in Nikko, I'd definitely leave some time to explore beyond the main tourist route. Would you add this to your Japan itinerary? 🇯🇵 #hiking

Autumn is the time when forests around the world turn into fiery canvases. Here are a few places considered among the most beautiful for witnessing this spectacle. 🍁 Japan: The Art of "Momiji" Japan is a recognised leader in the culture of autumn leaf viewing, known here as "momiji" (admiring red maples). The tradition rivals spring cherry blossom viewing in popularity. · Nara: The ancient capital, where autumn colours are especially lovely in Nara Park, surrounded by spotted deer. · Nikko National Park: Cedar forests and maple avenues create a striking contrast with red leaves and wooden temples. · Nasu Highlands: Just 70 minutes from Tokyo, known not only for foliage but also for hot springs. 🏔️ Europe: Fairytale Landscapes Europe also reveals its full autumn glory, especially in mountainous and forested regions. · Bavaria, Germany: The forests of southern Germany look especially impressive against castles like Neuschwanstein. In the Bavarian Alps, you can witness dramatic autumn scenery. · Plitvice Lakes, Croatia: Waterfalls and lakes surrounded by beech and maple forests reflect fiery autumn colours, creating cinematic views. · Lake Bled, Slovenia: The alpine lake with its island and church becomes even more magical in autumn, when the trees around it turn every shade of gold. · Scottish Highlands: Rugged landscapes with heather moors and ancient forests (like Glen Affric) are covered in gold, deep red, and amber. 🍂 North America: The Classic "Leaf Peeping" In the US and Canada, there's a whole tradition of "leaf peeping" travelling to see autumn foliage. · White Mountains, New Hampshire (USA): This is the heart of New England. The rolling landscapes of national parks shimmer in every shade of red and gold. Best time to visit early October. · Blue Ridge Mountains, USA: The scenic Blue Ridge Parkway (755 km) is the most visited site in the national park system. Golden canopies of maples and poplars line the route. · Canadian Rockies: In late September, a "larch season" arrives for a few weeks. Alpine forests around Banff and Lake Louise turn golden. One of the best routes the trail over Sentinel Pass. #autumnvibes #travel2026

Shinkyo Bridge: A Must-Visit Legendary Landmark in Nikko 🌉✨ ✨ Discover the most iconic landmark in Nikko: Shinkyo Bridge (Shinkyō Bridge). This vibrant red arched wooden bridge is celebrated as one of Japan's three finest bridges and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. ✨ The bridge spans the rushing waters of the Daiya River, set against a backdrop of lush forests and rugged mountains, exuding an undeniable sense of sacred history and timeless elegance. Beyond its breathtaking beauty, the bridge is steeped in folklore about a deity and giant serpents who helped travelers cross the river. It’s an essential photo spot for anyone visiting Nikko. 🇯🇵🤎

Japan has a reputation for futuristic cities, ancient temples and neon-lit streets. But leave Tokyo behind and the country becomes something completely different. Mountains rise above quiet valleys. Hot springs steam beneath the trees. Ancient shrines disappear into forests so dense that the outside world seems miles away. If you’re looking for the Japan that feels a little more mysterious and wild, these three places belong on your list. 1. Nikko — Temples Beneath the Cedar Trees Nikko feels like someone hid an ancient world inside a forest. The roads wind through enormous cedar trees, and eventually you begin to see flashes of red, gold and intricate decoration between the branches. This is where you’ll find some of Japan’s most impressive shrines and temples, including the spectacular Toshogu Shrine. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. Look closely at the carvings and decorations and you’ll discover details everywhere — mythical creatures, animals and elaborate patterns covering the buildings. But the setting is what makes Nikko unforgettable. Walk beneath the towering trees, listen to the wind and let the crowds disappear behind you. It feels ancient in the best possible way. 2. Hakone — Mountains, Mist and Hot Springs Then head to Hakone. This is where Japan becomes slower. Hakone is famous for its hot springs, mountain scenery and beautiful Lake Ashi, with Mount Fuji sometimes appearing dramatically in the distance. Take a boat across the lake, explore the surrounding countryside and, if you’re lucky with the weather, catch that perfect Fuji view. But the real luxury here is staying overnight at a traditional ryokan. Slip into an outdoor onsen, surrounded by mountains and trees, and let the rest of the world disappear for a while. After a busy few days in Japan’s cities, Hakone feels like hitting pause. 3. Kamikochi — Japan’s Wild Side And then there’s Kamikochi. If you want mountains, this is where you go. Crystal-clear rivers wind through an alpine valley while enormous peaks rise dramatically on either side. The walking trails take you through forests, across wooden bridges and alongside water so clear you’ll keep stopping to look at it. In autumn, the landscape becomes a spectacular mix of gold, orange and red. On a clear day, the mountains seem almost impossibly close. And the further you walk, the quieter everything becomes. That’s what connects these three places. Nikko gives you ancient Japan. Hakone gives you relaxation and mountain views. Kamikochi gives you wilderness. Together, they reveal a side of Japan that’s easy to miss if you only visit the major cities. Because sometimes the most unforgettable Japan isn’t found beneath neon lights. It’s hidden beneath ancient cedar trees, beside a steaming hot spring or reflected in a crystal-clear mountain river. And once you discover that side of the country, you may never look at Japan quite the same way again. #travel2026#travel#couplestrip#staycati

Japan’s autumn foliage season begins in the northern regions and high altitudes, gradually making its way down to the central and southern parts of the country. Naturally, each region hits its peak at different times. Hokkaido is one of the very first areas to welcome the autumn colors. Daisetsuzan National Park usually starts showing off its beauty around mid-September, while the Jozankei Onsen area hits its peak from early to mid-October. The Tohoku region is perfect for a late October to early November trip. Must-visit spots include the Oirase Stream in Aomori Prefecture and the Naruko Gorge in Miyagi Prefecture, offering breathtaking views of forests, streams, and valleys bursting with vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges. In Nikko (Tochigi Prefecture), the leaves turn color first in higher-elevation spots like Okunikko and Lake Chuzenji starting in October. The vivid hues then slowly sweep down into central Nikko from late October to mid-November. Tokyo experiences a relatively late autumn foliage season. Rikugien Garden is typically at its best from late November to early December, making it a fantastic choice for those who want to enjoy the brilliant autumn leaves without venturing too far outside the city. Around Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko, the fan-favorite Momiji Corridor (Maple Corridor) usually peaks from early to mid-November. It's an incredible spot to take in both the gorgeous fall foliage and the iconic view of Mount Fuji in a single trip. Down in the Kansai region, Kyoto is especially stunning from mid to late November, with the colors sometimes lingering into early December. Iconic viewing spots here include Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Arashiyama. If you're chasing the autumn leaves from north to south, here’s a quick cheat sheet: hit Daisetsuzan in mid-September; explore Hokkaido, Nikko, and Tohoku in October; visit Kawaguchiko from early to mid-November; and save Tokyo and Kyoto for late November. Keep in mind that actual peak times may shift slightly each year depending on temperature and weather conditions.

If you find yourself with a free day while visiting Tokyo, take a trip outside the city. You'll quickly discover that the areas surrounding Tokyo have way more to offer than you might expect! From historic towns and the ocean to hot springs, Mount Fuji views, famous temples, and stunning cityscapes at night. Getting there is a breeze, with many spots just a 1 to 2-hour train ride away. Kamakura + Enoshima is perfect for first-timers. In just one day, you can check off the Great Buddha, historic temples, quaint little streets, an old-town vibe, a ride on the Enoden train, and beautiful ocean views. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable trip with amazing photo ops every step of the way. Hakone is the ideal getaway when you want to escape the concrete jungle and recharge in nature. It features hot springs, Lake Ashi, Hakone Shrine, and Owakudani. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji. Highly recommended if you love mountain scenery and a laid-back atmosphere. Kawagoe is a retro, historic town that’s just a short trip from Tokyo. Its main draws are the traditional houses, old clay warehouses, the iconic bell tower, traditional sweet shops, and streets that still exude the charm of old-school Japan. It’s perfect for a relaxed half-day or full-day excursion. Yokohama is the go-to choice for city lovers who enjoy cafes, shopping, and glittering night views. Take a stroll through Minato Mirai, head over to Chinatown, drop by the Red Brick Warehouse, and wrap up your day taking in the gorgeous waterfront views after dark. It’s an easy day trip with a hassle-free return to Tokyo. Nikko is calling all history and nature enthusiasts. The crown jewel here is the lavishly decorated Nikko Toshogu Shrine, set against a backdrop of lush forests, mountains, bridges, and waterfalls. It’s a bit further out than the other destinations, but if you start your day early, it makes for a fantastic day trip. Kawaguchiko / Fuji should be at the top of your list if your goal is to "see Mount Fuji in all its glory." The area around the lake offers countless vantage points for photographing the iconic mountain. However, it’s highly recommended to check the weather and visibility before you go, as clouds can sometimes completely obscure the view. To sum it up: if you love the ocean, choose Kamakura + Enoshima; craving hot springs? Pick Hakone; love historic towns? Go for Kawagoe; city vibes and nightlife? Yokohama is your spot; into temples and nature? Head to Nikko; and if you want to hunt down the best views of Mount Fuji, Kawaguchiko is the place to be!

Nikko is a city renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and rich history, officially designated as a World Heritage site in 1999. The journey takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours. · Shinkyo Bridge is a vibrant red wooden bridge located in Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It serves as the "gateway to the shrines and temples" (part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikkō World Heritage site) in the city. · The bridge is ranked as one of Japan's three finest bridges, alongside Kintaikyo Bridge and Saruhashi Bridge. · According to a sacred legend, when a priest named Shōdō Shōnin found his path blocked by a river, he prayed, and two snakes appeared, transforming into a bridge for him to cross. This is how it earned the name "Sacred Bridge." · The original structure was built in 1636 (though it has undergone restoration since) and is open to the public for walking (an entrance fee applies). · This spot is absolutely perfect for photography (especially during autumn foliage or snowfall), as the striking red bridge contrasts beautifully with the natural surroundings. 📍 How to Get There & Tips · The bridge is located near the entrance to Nikkō's World Heritage zone. It is accessible on foot from the train station or by bus (checking bus routes is recommended). · If you're staying in Nikkō and are short on time, this is an ideal spot for a "quick photo op" before heading to other shrines and temples in the area. · We recommend visiting in the morning or during off-peak hours to avoid the crowds and capture the best shots. · If you visit during the autumn foliage season (mid-October to early November), the atmosphere is especially stunning. 📝 Summary If you're planning a trip to Nikkō, we highly recommend adding Shinkyo Bridge to your itinerary, at the very least for a "photo stop." If you have more time, crossing the bridge itself allows you to fully take in the atmosphere. Take just one picture, and you'll instantly understand why it's such an iconic landmark.

Tokyo is huge, but choosing the right neighbourhood can make your trip much easier and more enjoyable. For a first-time visit, these are my top picks: 🥇 Shinjuku — Best Overall 🌃 Best for: First-timers, nightlife, food & convenience. Shinjuku is the ultimate Tokyo base. You’ll have countless restaurants, izakayas, shopping malls and convenience stores right outside your hotel, plus one of Tokyo’s biggest train hubs for getting around the city. Stay here if: you want to be in the middle of the action and don’t mind a busy atmosphere. 🥈 Shibuya — Best for Trendy Tokyo 🛍️ Best for: Shopping, cafés, nightlife & young/trendy vibes Think Shibuya Crossing, neon lights, stylish cafés, boutiques and late-night restaurants. It’s lively both day and night and makes a great base for exploring Harajuku, Omotesando and Daikanyama. Stay here if: you want the iconic, energetic side of Tokyo. 🥉 Ginza — Best for Luxury & Central Location ✨ Best for: Luxury hotels, shopping, food & couples Ginza is polished, sophisticated and extremely convenient. You’re close to Tokyo Station, Tsukiji, Marunouchi and the Imperial Palace, while still having excellent restaurants and shopping. Stay here if: you prefer a quieter, more upscale neighbourhood. 🌸 Asakusa — Best for Traditional Tokyo ⛩️ Best for: Culture, temples & old Tokyo charm Asakusa feels worlds away from the skyscrapers of Shinjuku. Stay near Senso-ji, Nakamise-dori and Kaminarimon for a more traditional Tokyo experience, with plenty of affordable hotels and local eateries. Stay here if: you love temples, traditional streets and a slower pace. ☕ Ueno — Best for Budget + Convenience 🐼 Best for: Budget travellers, museums & food Ueno offers generally better-value accommodation while remaining well connected. You’re close to Ueno Park, museums, Ameyoko Market and easy train connections to other parts of Tokyo. Stay here if: you want to save on accommodation without staying far from the action. 🌿 Ebisu — Best for Couples & Cafés 🍷 Best for: Cafés, restaurants, relaxed nightlife Ebisu is a more grown-up alternative to Shibuya—stylish but less hectic, with lovely restaurants, wine bars and cafés. It’s especially nice for couples who want Tokyo nightlife without the crowds. Stay here if: you want a stylish neighbourhood with a more relaxed atmosphere. 🚉 Tokyo Station / Marunouchi — Best for Convenience 🏙️ Best for: Day trips, business travellers & luxury stays Staying around Tokyo Station gives you fantastic access to the Shinkansen, making it ideal if Tokyo is part of a larger Japan itinerary. Marunouchi itself is elegant and relatively calm at night. Stay here if: you’re planning day trips to Kyoto, Osaka, Nikko or elsewhere. If you have a couple of days to spare away from Tokyo, I highly recommend visiting Nikko. It's a small town just a short trip away, but the vibe is a world apart from the bustling city. Home to shrines nestled in pine forests, waterfalls, mountains, lakes, and cool weather almost all year round, it's a walkable town that makes you feel relaxed from the very first step. 🚗 How to Get There It takes about 2 hours by train from Tokyo to reach Nikko. Using a JR Pass or the Tobu Railway is super convenient. Once you arrive, you can take buses to various spots, or get a one-day pass to help save on travel costs. 🌿 Where to Go Start your trip at Toshogu Shrine, one of the most beautiful shrines in Japan. The intricate wood carvings and golden buildings are absolutely stunning. You can easily spend hours just wandering around here. Next, stop by Shinkyo Bridge, an iconic red bridge that serves as a symbol of the town. It's incredibly gorgeous for photos, especially in the morning or during the autumn foliage season. In the afternoon, head up to Lake Chuzenji and drop by Kegon Falls, a towering waterfall that looks stunning in every season—whether surrounded by lush summer greenery, vibrant autumn reds, or winter snow. If you still have time, take a leisurely stroll along the lake, pop into a cozy little cafe, and soak in the mountain views without any rush. 🍜 Recommended Food Nikko is famous for Yuba (tofu skin), which can be enjoyed both fresh and fried. You'll also find handmade soba, manju, and traditional Japanese sweets at local shops. 📸 Photo Spots Toshogu Shrine, Shinkyo Bridge, Kegon Falls, and Lake Chuzenji are picturesque spots in any season, but they are particularly breathtaking during the autumn leaves from October to November. 💸 Budget A 2–3 day trip will cost around 15,000–25,000 THB per person (excluding flights), depending on your accommodation and transport choices. 💬 Final Thoughts Nikko is the perfect getaway for anyone looking to escape Tokyo's hustle and bustle. You get to walk amidst nature, admire gorgeous shrines, and take things at a relaxed pace. If you're a fan of mountains, waterfalls, and crisp, cool air, this town will easily make you fall in love with it.

Anyone who gets it, sisters!! When Tokyo was 35 degrees and felt like my soul was melting, I escaped to Karuizawa’s 25-degree summer in just an hour on the Shinkansen 🧊 I instantly felt alive again The 1,000-meter-high plateau basin is no joke. In July, short sleeves are perfect during the day, but you actually need a light jacket in the morning and evening. I even dug out a knit cardigan from my suitcase 😂 🚄 “How’s the transportation?” From Tokyo Station to Karuizawa Station, take the Hokuriku Shinkansen Hakutaka, fastest direct trip in 62 minutes, reserved seat 6,420 JPY Key point 💡 Buy the JR Tokyo Wide Pass (15,000 JPY/3 days). Karuizawa is covered, so one round trip pays for itself. You can also use it to visit Nikko and Kawagoe on other days—great value Right outside Karuizawa Station is the outlet mall. Lockers cost 400–700 JPY. Big lockers fill up early, so go early What to do after arriving? Here are three routes I tried for you 👇 🚲 “Cycling is the way to go” The soul of Karuizawa is cycling! There are several rental shops near the station. Electric bikes are 1,500 JPY/day, regular bikes 800 JPY/day I rented an electric-assist bike, and climbing hills was effortless. Riding through the birch tree-lined paths, the breeze carried the fresh scent of leaves—it’s addictive ⚠️ Note: In July, sunset is around 7:00 PM. Forest paths get dark earlier than flat areas, so don’t ride too far or you might not make it back Recommended cycling loop: Karuizawa Station → Kumoba Pond → Old Karuizawa Ginza → Yazaki Park → back to the station. About 12 km total, a leisurely 2-hour ride 🌊 “Visit Kumoba Pond early in the morning” Locals call it “Swan Lake.” In summer, the lush greenery reflects on the water, surrounded by larch and birch trees Arrive before 8:00 AM and you’ll basically have it to yourself! The water is mirror-like, perfect for wallpaper-worthy photos Walking around the pond takes about 20 minutes. The path is flat and easy. There are some mosquitoes but not too bad—just bring a mosquito repellent bracelet It’s about a 10-minute bike ride or 20-minute walk from Karuizawa Station ⛪ “Stone Church: my highlight of the year” Located in the Hoshino Resort area of Naka-Karuizawa. There’s a free shuttle bus from JR Naka-Karuizawa Station to the Hoshino area, about 5 minutes The church was designed by architect Kendrick Kellogg, built with natural stone and glass, with no straight lines. The whole space feels like it’s grown out of the mountain The moment I stepped inside, I was stunned—sunlight streamed through irregular glass gaps, paired with soft pipe organ music, giving me goosebumps ⏰ Open 9:00 AM–6:00 PM (temporarily closed during weddings, check the official website before you go) Free admission Next to it is the Plateau Church, a triangular wooden structure wrapped in forest, full of atmosphere. The two churches are connected by a 3-minute walk, so visit both together 🍃 “Rest stop guide for Elm Street Town” Also in the Hoshino Resort area, a small commercial street built along a creek with about ten independent shops and cafes Sitting at an outdoor seat by the creek with a hand-brewed coffee, listening to the flowing water—this kind of relaxation doesn’t exist in Tokyo I recommend Maru’s coffee, made with locally roasted Karuizawa beans, very clean taste 🏡 “Where to stay” 🌲 The guesthouse is deep in the birch forest of Naka-Karuizawa, just a few minutes’ drive from Hoshino Resort, surrounded by towering trees, with green views from every window 🌲 The whole house is a log cabin style with a high-ceiling living room and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace (purely decorative in summer but sets the mood). The loft bedroom upstairs has a skylight, perfect for star-gazing from bed at night 🌲 The host provides hand-brew coffee equipment and local Karuizawa tea. Drinking coffee on the terrace while listening to birds in the morning—that’s what a vacation should be Here’s how to plan your second day 👇 💦 “Shiraito Falls: only worth visiting in summer” From Karuizawa Station North Exit, take the Kusakaru Kotsu bus from platform 2 to Shiraito Falls Station, about 20 minutes, fare 720 JPY The waterfall is only 3 meters high but 70 meters wide!! Summer has the most water flow, like a white curtain spread out. Standing on the viewing platform, the cool mist hits your face and the temperature drops by 5 degrees The return bus stop is right across the street, with about one bus per hour. Check the schedule so you don’t wait too long 🛍️ “Old Karuizawa Ginza Street” An old shopping street dating back to the Meiji era, 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by bike from Karuizawa Station The street isn’t long. A slow stroll takes about 40 minutes. Shops on both sides sell handicrafts, jam specialty stores, and vintage jewelry There’s a jam shop that’s been around for nearly 100 years, famous for handmade strawberry and blueberry jams. About 800 JPY per jar—perfect as a souvenir The local loop bus also passes here, 100 JPY per ride, convenient for those who want to skip walking 📋 “Practical tips” · Average temperature in Karuizawa in July is 20–25 degrees, cool in the morning and evening, so bring a light jacket · UV rays are stronger than in the lowlands! Sunscreen and sunglasses are a must · Cash is king. Many small shops and buses only accept cash. It’s recommended to carry 30,000–50,000 JPY in cash · The JR Wide Pass can be purchased in advance on the JR East website and exchanged for a physical ticket at Tokyo Station · Karuizawa Station has a tourist information center where you can get free maps and bus schedules. Staff speak basic English · Convenience stores are concentrated near the station. Once you enter residential areas, they’re hard to find, so buy water and snacks in advance This 48-hour trip in Karuizawa had me walking over 20,000 steps a day, but I never felt tired because every step was surrounded by beautiful scenery 🌿
