Ning'er travel guide and discussion

If you think Pu’er is just about tea, you’re seriously underestimating it! After visiting, I realized it has not only ancient tea mountains and the Tea Horse Road but also tropical rainforests, ethnic villages, and coffee plantations. The pace is slower than Dali, and tourists aren’t as concentrated as in Xishuangbanna, making it perfect for a relaxing, unhurried healing trip. 🌿 This Pu’er 3-day 2-night itinerary, personally explored and optimized by me, is perfect for first-timers—just follow it as is! 📍Basic travel info for Pu’er Pu’er is located in southern Yunnan. The main areas to explore are divided into three parts: Simao urban area, the Sun River and Tea Expo Garden area, and Lancang Jingmai Mountain. You can take taxis around the city. For Sun River, coffee plantations, and Jingmai Mountain, self-driving or chartered cars are better. Especially Jingmai Mountain, located in Huimin Town, Lancang County, is far from the city center, so it’s not recommended to squeeze it into the same day as city sights. The Jingmai Mountain ancient tea forest cultural landscape includes ancient tea forests, traditional villages, and forests. It’s the world’s first tea-themed World Cultural Heritage site. 🗓️Recommended duration: 3 days 2 nights 🚗Recommended transport: self-driving or chartered car 🌤️Best season: October to April 👟Travel intensity: moderate, with walking required in tea mountains and forests DAY 1: Leisurely explore Pu’er city and soak in local life Tea Horse Ancient Town → Pu’er Confucian Temple → Taiping Old Street → Pu’er City Museum → Meizi Lake Park The first stop was Tea Horse Ancient Town. It’s not a traditional ancient town but more of a tea horse culture-themed leisure street with distinctive Yunnan architecture. It’s less crowded in the morning, making it great for photos. Then walk or take a taxi to Pu’er Confucian Temple. The red walls, flying eaves, and ancient trees feel historic. It’s quiet and peaceful, so allow about 40 minutes. Next, head to Taiping Old Street for food. Small shops, cafes, and old buildings mix together, offering a more authentic local vibe than commercialized ancient towns. In the afternoon, visit Pu’er City Museum depending on opening hours to quickly learn about tea culture, ethnic customs, and Pu’er history. In the evening, stroll around Meizi Lake Park to watch the lake and city lights come on. Don’t pack the first day too full. For dinner, I had Wa-style barbecue, pounded chicken feet, and sour bamboo shoot fish stew. The flavors are sour and spicy, so if you can’t eat spicy, be sure to say so in advance! 🌶️ DAY 2: Tea gardens, rainforests, and coffee—three experiences in one day China Pu’er Tea Expo Garden → Pu’er Sun River Forest Park → Xiao’aozi Coffee Plantation Start the morning at China Pu’er Tea Expo Garden. The tea gardens spread across the hills, and on a clear day, the layers look stunning. Besides photos, you can learn about Pu’er tea planting, processing, and brewing. The official Yunnan Simao district itinerary also lists the Tea Horse Road scenic area, Tea Expo Garden, and Sun River Forest Park as core attractions. In the afternoon, head to Sun River Forest Park. The boardwalk is surrounded by lush greenery, the air is humid, and it feels cooler than the city. I recommend wearing non-slip sneakers and taking your time rather than rushing to check in. There are many mosquitoes in the rainforest, so bring insect repellent. If you have the energy, stop by Xiao’aozi Coffee Plantation on the way back. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the city center in the Nandao River area of Simao district. You can learn about coffee from planting to brewing. When ordering, don’t just get a latte. I recommend pour-over or Americano to better appreciate Pu’er coffee’s fruity acidity and aroma. ☕ DAY 3: Save the whole day for Jingmai Mountain Jingmai Village → Ancient tea forest → Wengji Ancient Village → Nuogan Ancient Village On day three, start early. Jingmai Mountain deserves a full day. Once inside the ancient tea forest, the most striking feeling isn’t awe but quietness: tea trees grow within the forest, leaves fall underfoot, and the air carries a faint scent of grass and tea. Wengji Ancient Village features Bulang ethnic culture and traditional homes. The wooden buildings, temples, and ancient trees are perfect for slow exploration. Nuogan Ancient Village is even more rustic, with houses spread along the mountain slopes. The rooftops look especially layered from above. Once inside the village, don’t just take photos—find a local tea house, sit down for a cup of tea, listen to the owner talk about life in the tea mountains, and your experience will be much richer. If you don’t go to Jingmai Mountain, you can swap day three for a half-day trip to Nakeli Tea Horse Post. Nakeli is about 25 km from Pu’er city center and preserves Tea Horse Road relics, as well as horse caravan culture sites like wind-and-rain bridges and waterwheels. It’s a good stop if you’re driving in and out of Pu’er. 🏨Where to stay? For the first two days, I recommend staying near Simao city or Tea Horse Ancient Town. Restaurants are concentrated, taxis are convenient, and the evenings are lively. For a deeper Jingmai Mountain experience, spend the second night in a guesthouse near Wengji, Nuogan, or Jingmai Village. Conditions in the mountains can’t compare to city hotels, but the morning mist, starry nights, and fire pit tea roasting are experiences you won’t get in the city. When booking a Jingmai Mountain guesthouse, be sure to confirm if it has a private bathroom, parking, heating or electric blankets, and whether transfers are provided. 🍲Don’t miss these local foods I highly recommend Wa-style barbecue, wrapped barbecue, sour bamboo shoot fish stew, pounded chicken feet, wild mushroom hot pot, Pu’er tea crisp, and local small-batch coffee. During the rainy season, only eat wild mushrooms at reputable restaurants and make sure they are thoroughly cooked. Don’t drink alcohol the same day you eat mushrooms, and never buy unknown mushrooms to prepare yourself. ⚠️Practical tips and pitfalls to avoid ✅ Attractions are spread out. Self-driving saves time compared to taxis. Fill up your tank before heading into the mountains. ✅ Jingmai Mountain has many curves. If you get car sick easily, prepare medication in advance. ✅ Mountain temperatures vary greatly between morning and night. Even in summer, bring a light jacket and rain gear. ✅ Ancient villages are people’s homes. Always ask permission before photographing people or inside houses. ✅ When buying tea, don’t just listen to “ancient trees, vintage, collectible value.” Taste first and clarify weight and price. ✅ Don’t try to cram Jingmai Mountain, Nakeli, and Mojiang into three days. Travel times are long, and the trip will feel rushed. What makes Pu’er truly charming isn’t a single popular photo spot but the wind in the tea mountains, birdsong in the rainforest, and the time spent slowly finishing a cup of tea. Would you rather drink tea in Jingmai Mountain or enjoy a freshly brewed coffee in a coffee plantation? 🍃 travel mountain ancient tea forest off-the-beaten-path travel horse road coffee

July in Pu’er! Wrapped in the aroma of tea, my whole body tingled with delight, sipping sour soup for 3 days straight 😭 The aftertaste is so strong that I still have roasted tea fragments in my pocket now Who understands, family! July in Pu’er is not just the dull small town in southern Yunnan with tea mountains. The hot wind carries the scent of tea through your collar. Take a few steps and you’re picking fresh leaves by the lush green tea fields. Look up and you see rainforest clouds drifting over the mountaintops. Three days after returning, my thermos still brews the Dianhong tea fragments I brought back. Closing my eyes, all I see are endless green tea fields—I just can’t get out of it ✨ · ----- 🍵 Picking fresh leaves and soaking in the tea aroma in the core area of Jingmai Mountain ancient tea forest In July, the continuous ancient tea forest is covered in moss. A Bulang woman carries a bamboo basket picking the top fresh buds. The mountain breeze carries the warm scent of roasted tea far away. Light filtering through the trees sparkles on the tea buds. 👉 Tip: Experience tea roasting with farmers at 8 AM, take photos of the green tea fields with bamboo baskets on your back. Everyone on social media is asking about this hidden gem! 🛖 Listening to cicadas in the old Wengji Bulang village In July, the wooden buildings in the village are covered with firecracker flowers. Bamboo racks with tea leaves hang under the eaves. Bulang elders squat on the doorstep roasting tea. A yellow dog wags its tail as it passes over the bluestone path. 👉 Tip: Wear a cotton-linen plain dress to shoot flower garlands and climb wooden eaves. The warm light makes it look like a niche southern Yunnan art film still! 🌿 Cooling off and breathing fresh air at Xiniu Ping in Sun River Forest Park In July, the rainforest is filled with cool air and the scent of plants. A red panda sits on a branch nibbling an apple. Gibbons swing through the treetops by grabbing vines. Wild orchids bloom vibrantly by the boardwalk. 👉 Tip: Bring small pieces of apple to feed the red panda. Capture the moment it eats from your palm—guaranteed to melt everyone’s heart on social media! ☕ Smelling roasted aroma and capturing light and shadow at Pu’er Tea Expo Garden In July, tens of thousands of acres of terraced tea fields stretch to the mountainside. The tea expo hall’s floor-to-ceiling windows display old tea cakes. The viewing platform’s breeze stirs the green waves of tea fields. Even inside the hall, a faint tea fragrance drifts in the air. 👉 Tip: Go to the top viewing platform to shoot the tea fields like a sea of green. Wear a light-colored long dress and stand on the ridge for photos that look like scenes from a healing Japanese drama! 🌊 Stepping in streams and touching moss at the Nake Li section of the Ancient Tea Horse Road ruins In July, the old stone slab road is polished shiny by mountain rain. Horse hoof prints hold reflections of scattered clouds. Streams flow past the tea village with a babbling sound. Old tea trees on both sides have branches sweeping the water surface. 👉 Tip: Wear slip-resistant shoes to wade through shallow streams and shoot splashes. Capture the wind stirring bougainvillea by the roadside to maximize the atmosphere! 🦋 Chasing colorful butterflies and flowers in the Ailao Mountain Jinshan primeval forest In July, morning mist swirls around towering ancient trees. Colorful butterflies flutter over wildflowers and people’s shoulders. Damp moss covers thick trunks. The sound of waterfalls echoes through the dense forest. 👉 Tip: Walk slowly along the wooden boardwalk to catch butterflies landing on your shoulder. Use slow shutter speed to shoot mist-covered ancient forest scenes. This hidden gem will blow up your social feed! · ----- 🥘 July must-eat list that will make you stomp your feet ▪️ Hardcore southern Yunnan style: freshly cooked Dai sour soup chicken! Wild tomatoes simmered into a broth so fresh it’ll make your eyebrows raise. Dip freshly picked tea tips in it. The sour, spicy, and fragrant flavors hit your head like a lightning bolt ▪️ Local grandma’s secret: night market freshly grilled enoki mushrooms wrapped in lots of coriander and lemongrass. Only 5 yuan a bag, perfect for snacking on the go ▪️ Sunny day exclusive surprise: iced Dianhong tea brewed with Dianhuangpi fruit. The honey-sweet fruit aroma mixed with tea fragrance cools you down instantly · ----- ✅ Blood, sweat, and tears reminders for July visitors: 1. Bring a wide-brimmed sun hat! The tea mountains are open with no shade. The sun will burn the back of your neck. It blocks the sun and doubles as a photo prop 2. Prepare strong mosquito repellent! The rainforest and tea forests have fierce little mosquitoes. Spray it and you won’t get itchy bites the whole trip. So convenient 3. Don’t tour the tea fields at noon without shade! Rest in the old tea shops in the village instead. It’s 100 times more comfortable than getting dizzy and sunstruck 4. Wear slip-resistant soft-soled shoes! The stone slabs on the Ancient Tea Horse Road are wet with mountain dew. You won’t slip or get sore feet walking the whole way July in Pu’er is not just an ordinary small town selling tea. The tea aroma mixed with fresh plant scents hits your face. When I left, I stuffed half a bag of roasted tea fragments from grandma in my pocket. Now, when I brew hot water and bring the cup close, I can still remember the soft feeling of mountain wind wrapped in tea scent brushing my face. The aftertaste is really strong 😭

July–August is truly beautiful, and I've returned from Pu'er, but I don't recommend going now! Lush green tea mountains and a healing rainforest create an immersive atmosphere🌿 However, it's the rainy season, with frequent showers and rampant mosquitoes, which can easily disrupt your trip! Here's a relaxed itinerary to avoid heavy rain and scorching sun, perfect for those planning a summer trip✅ ⚠️Key things to avoid in Pu'er during July–August 1. Weather warning: Sudden afternoon showers are very common🌧️, and mountain fog can appear out of nowhere, likely obscuring distant views of the tea mountains; don't gamble on clear weather! Carry a raincoat and umbrella. 2. Outdoor warning: Rainforests and tea mountains have an explosion of mosquitoes and insects, so wear long pants and long sleeves if possible, and strong insect repellent is a must; mountain roads are slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes. 3. Itinerary warning: Do not schedule outdoor attractions between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM! Prioritize cafes or tea houses indoors to escape the scorching sun and showers. 4. Consumption warning: Decline roadside offers for free tea tastings and sales pitches; do not buy tea at high prices; be cautious about signing up for low-priced one-day tea mountain tours, as they often involve long travel times. 5. Travel warning: It's not recommended for novice drivers to self-drive on remote mountain roads during the rainy season, as roads can be slippery; if you want to see the sea of clouds in Jingmai Mountain, don't come in July–August, it's hard to catch. 📅3-day, 2-night comfortable itinerary (off-peak arrangement) Day 1 City old town stroll | Acclimatize 🔹Morning: Simao Old Street + Daijia Alley Wake up naturally and head out, stroll through the old streets and alleys, visit artistic courtyard cafes, and try local breakfast. Take a nap or find a tea house to drink tea and avoid the rain, conserving energy. 🔹Afternoon: Meizi Lake Park lakeside boardwalk The temperature is comfortable in the evening, the lakeside forest is lush green, and the air is fresh. Take a walk, breathe in the oxygen, and experience the oasis of the Tropic of Cancer up close. 🔹Evening: Tea Horse Ancient Town night tour + night market food hunt Come after all the lanterns are lit! However, endless showers and swarms of mosquitoes can truly diminish the travel experience! If you seek stable clear weather, plan long trips to tea mountains, or want to see the sea of clouds and sunrise, it's more recommended to visit from November to April of the following year. If you insist on traveling during the summer, strictly follow this off-peak route to maximize avoidance of rainy season pitfalls!

🌿 Pu'er is truly a severely underestimated parent-child treasure destination! Without the crowds of Xishuangbanna, it offers the same tropical rainforest and a healing, slow-paced life. Bring your kids here, and every day will be awakened by the aroma of tea and coffee. 🌅 Day 1: First Encounter with Tea Aroma, Slow Time on the Tea Horse Road Nakeli Tea Horse Post Station is truly perfect for families with kids! It's a free 4A-rated scenic area, where the entire village retains the style of horse caravans from a century ago. Bluestone paths, wind-and-rain bridges, and the Rongfa Horse Inn – every spot feels like traveling back to ancient times. Kids can experience unique woodblock printing and plant dyeing handicrafts here, or sit by the stream, splash in the water, and play with stones. You don't need to supervise at all; they can play all afternoon by themselves. For lunch, we ate at the Horse Caravan Restaurant in the village. You absolutely must try Lei Xiang Tea; the teapot sizzles on the fire, and the tea poured out has an intoxicating aroma. The Bean Soup Rice Noodles are 9 RMB a bowl; the pink rice noodles with a bean soup base were so good that the kids couldn't get enough, even after two bowls. In the afternoon, we visited the China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden. The all-inclusive ticket is 80 RMB, including a round-trip electric car. With tea plantations covering the mountains, kids can personally pick tea, make tea, and finally taste a cup of Pu'er tea they made themselves. Standing on the observation deck overlooking ten thousand acres of tea plantations, when the wind blows, the aroma of tea wafts over you. That healing feeling is truly indescribable. 🎯 Day 2: Forest Adventure, Befriend Red Pandas Sun River National Forest Park is definitely the ultimate parent-child destination in Pu'er! The package ticket is 135 RMB, including admission and a round-trip electric car. We recommend entering before 9 AM when there are fewer people and the animals are more active. The red pandas here are incredibly friendly; for 20 RMB, you can buy apple strips and feed them up close. The fluffy little guys will climb onto your lap to eat, making the kids scream with excitement and not want to leave. Besides red pandas, you can also see rhinos, gibbons, and various birds. With a forest coverage rate of 94.5%, walking through it feels like stepping into the rainforest world of Avatar. "Flying Through the Jungle" is 162 RMB per person; older kids can challenge themselves to this thrilling experience of soaring through the treetops. At night, you can stay at the Little Panda Manor. Open the door, and you're in the forest. Fall asleep to the sound of insects and wake up to birdsong in the morning. This immersive forest experience is something your kids will never forget. ☕ Day 3: Coffee Slow Time, World Heritage Exploration Pu'er has so many coffee estates! At Xiao'aozi Coffee Estate, it's 60 RMB per person for unlimited refills. The architecture of Dakaihe Meizi Coffee Estate is incredibly well-designed, perfect for photos. You must try their coffee brittle. You must visit Wengji Ancient Village and Nuogan Ancient Village. The Blang people's roasted tea, hand-grabbed rice, and the filming location of "Coffee or Tea?" – every spot is worth exploring slowly. The Tropic of Cancer Landmark Park in Mojiang is also very interesting. With a 40 RMB ticket, kids can experience stepping across the tropical and temperate zones, make wishes at the Twin Wells, and take the 70 RMB round-trip "Flying Magic Carpet" to reach the summit without climbing, which is very friendly for families with kids. Nakeli Village in Yunnan is a thousand-year-old post station hidden deep within the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Today, it has transformed into a poetic retreat embodying the aesthetics of slow living. With its small bridges, flowing streams, cobblestone paths, and horse hoof imprints, the village exudes the lingering charm of the caravan era. It is not only a national 4A-level tourist attraction but also hailed as "a place that evokes nostalgia," making it perfect for travelers who enjoy cultural immersion and leisurely strolls through ancient towns. The name "Nakeli" originates from the Dai language, where "Na" means field, "Ke" means bridge, and "Li" means good, collectively signifying "a livable place with small bridges, flowing water, fertile fields, and abundant harvests." Nakeli was the first major post station southward from Pu'er Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty. It served as a rest stop for caravans to feed their horses and replenish supplies, acting as a transit hub for goods like tea, salt, and fabrics traveling north and south. The village is home to multiple ethnic groups, including the Hani, Yi, and Dai. Its architecture features uniform stone platforms, wooden structures, and gray brick tiles, blending ancient charm with a vibrant living atmosphere. During festivals, visitors can enjoy ethnic song and dance performances, experience minority wedding customs, and appreciate the beauty of cultural diversity.

Pu'er is generally cool, with a large temperature difference between day and night, so remember to bring a light jacket. 4. The food is mainly Dai-style sour and spicy; let them know in advance if you don't eat spicy food.

Beihai, Guangxi Trip highlights: The sand at Silver Beach is fine and soft; parents can walk barefoot and splash in the water, or watch the sunset turn the sea orange in the evening. Weizhou Island's volcanic coast is unique—take a ferry there and back, rent an e-bike to explore the island at your own pace, and don't feel pressured to visit the Catholic Church; the bougainvillea along the roadside is stunning. The arcade buildings on Old Street are perfect for a stroll, followed by a bowl of dessert soup to rest your feet. Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Beihai, walk along Silver Beach in the afternoon, and have Vietnamese rice rolls at Qiaogang Street in the evening. Day 2: Take a ferry to Weizhou Island, stay overnight to watch the sunrise, and collect shells at Shell Beach. Book ferry tickets to the island in advance and have seasickness medication ready. Stay near Dishuidanping on Weizhou Island for convenient dining. · ————— Pu'er, Yunnan Trip highlights: Pu'er is quieter than Xishuangbanna. The tea mountains at the China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden are layered and distinct; take the sightseeing car to the viewing platform for a view full of greenery. The Nakeli Tea Horse Road village is small, perfect for walking along the stone paths and stopping by the old mill near the creek. At Little Panda Manor, you can see lazy little pandas up close, but remember to stay quiet so you don't startle them. Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Pu'er, explore the Tea Horse Ancient City in the afternoon, and have Pu'er tea and roast chicken in the evening. Day 2: Visit the Tea Expo Garden in the morning and Nakeli Ancient Town in the afternoon. Day 3: Half-day tour of Little Panda Manor, then buy some Pu'er tea cakes before heading back. Food recommendations: Pu'er BBQ, chicken tofu, sour bamboo shoot beef, tea-fried eggs. Travel tips: Pu'er is at an altitude of about 1,300 meters, so seniors generally won't experience altitude sickness. There is a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring a fleece jacket. Little Panda Manor requires an admission ticket; check the opening hours in advance. · ————— Zhanjiang, Guangdong Trip highlights: Chikan Old Street is a filming location for "The Bad Kids," and its mottled arcade buildings have a lot of character, making it perfect for a slow walk and photos. Techeng Island is close to the city—take a ferry for about 10 minutes, rent a bicycle to ride around the island, and see egrets on the mangrove boardwalk. The Xiashan Seaview Corridor is perfect for an evening breeze, and the warships visible in the distance will surely interest your parents. Day 2: Visit Techeng Island in the morning, and return to the city to explore Fishing Port Park in the afternoon. Day 3: Visit Huguangyan Scenic Area, walk around Maar Lake for some fresh air, and head back in the afternoon. Food recommendations: Grilled oysters, Zhanjiang chicken, sand worm soup, steamed rice noodle rolls. Travel tips: Zhanjiang is warm but humid in winter, so bring rain gear. Ferry departures to Techeng Island are limited, so keep an eye on the time for the last boat. Huguangyan offers half-price admission for seniors 60+, so bring your ID. · ————— Quanzhou, Fujian Trip highlights: The East and West Towers of Kaiyuan Temple are landmarks of the ancient city, and the temple grounds are filled with towering ancient trees and are free to enter. West Street is touristy, but the alleys branching off it are full of local life. Visit Xunpu Village to see the traditional flower hairpins; it only costs a few dozen yuan to have your mother's hair styled with flowers, which makes for great photos. Luoyang Bridge is a thousand-year-old bridge; take a walk to feel the sea breeze, and you'll find stalls selling oyster omelets at the bridgehead. Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Quanzhou, explore West Street, Kaiyuan Temple, and the Clock Tower in the afternoon, and watch a puppet show in the evening. Day 2: Visit Xunpu Village in the morning, Luoyang Bridge in the afternoon, and stroll along Zhongshan Road in the city in the evening. Day 3: Visit Laojun Rock on Qingyuan Mountain; the mountain isn't high, and you can take a car up, then head back in the afternoon. Food recommendations: Mianxian Hu (noodle soup), oyster omelet, beef soup, Shihuagao (jelly dessert). Travel tips: Quanzhou occasionally has cold snaps in winter, so bring a sweater. There are many snacks on West Street, but it's safer to find established restaurants for main meals. There are electric carts on Qingyuan Mountain, so your parents won't have to climb too many stairs.

Pitfall avoidance guide 🚧 If you're coming to Pu'er in October, let me pour some cold water on you first: Don't believe the nonsense about "visiting all the tea mountains in one day." If you actually plan it that way, you'll suffer enough to question your life choices. In primitive forest areas like Taiyanghe, if you wander around blindly without looking at signs, both your physical strength and your mental state will collapse. If you don't check opening hours and package tickets on Trip.com in advance, buying them on-site will cost you more, and you'll be so angry you'll want to scream. Nake'li Village itself doesn't charge admission, but if you drive there on a weekend and arrive late, parking is tight, and having to turn around last minute is even more frustrating. For Jingmai Mountain, I recommend booking in advance and setting aside a full day; don't try to go back and forth to Simao on the same day, as the mountain roads will wear you out. The Tea Expo Garden offers fun tea-making experiences, but if you don't usually drink tea, buying the most expensive package just for photos is a bit silly. The Mojiang Tropic of Cancer Park has many attractions; if you're bringing kids, don't buy them all—the Planetarium plus one interactive activity is enough. Buying everything will make your wallet cry. Don't force your way through muddy ancient trails on rainy days; slipping and falling is worse than losing your phone, so I really don't recommend it. Essential attire 🧥 October in Pu'er is comfortable, but the temperature difference between morning and evening can make you forget how to dress. A single long-sleeved shirt or thin blouse is fine during the day. When entering forest areas like Taiyanghe or Jingmai Mountain, long pants and sneakers are the bare minimum; shorts or sandals are just asking for trouble. The morning mist in the mountains is heavy, so bring a lightweight windbreaker so you won't be shivering while taking photos of the sea of clouds. Don't be lazy about sun protection; the UV rays aren't intense, but you'll still get two shades darker after walking all day. Pack a hat, sunglasses, and a folding umbrella. Rain can fall suddenly at the end of the rainy season, so disposable raincoats are more convenient than long umbrellas. For colors, I recommend light green, off-white, or earthy yellow so you won't look out of place in photos at tea gardens or ancient villages. If you plan to go horseback riding or hiking on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, don't wear brand-new pants—you don't want to be heartbroken if you have to kneel to tie your shoelaces. Must-visit attractions 🌿 For Taiyanghe National Forest Park, take the primitive rainforest and tea mountain animal observation route. Adult tickets plus shuttle are about CNY 135. The package including interaction in the rhino area is about CNY 150. If you're bringing kids and want to save your legs, the sightseeing car + basket meal package is about CNY 198. Just follow the park rules when observing small animals—don't feed them or chase them for photos, and you'll have a stress-free visit. The China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden is on Yingpan Mountain. Admission plus electric cart is CNY 80. If you want to hand-roll your own tea and take 200g home, buy the CNY 138 tea-making package. The Pu'er Ancient Tea Horse Road Relics Park is close to Simao. The combo ticket for the electric cart, Dingbo Lake performance, one-way cable car, and museum is CNY 118, with a discounted ticket at CNY 90. The full package including the "Wild Tea Search" family ticket is CNY 398—no need to get the all-inclusive package if you're just there for photos. Nake'li Village is free; the stone paths, old post stations, and small bridges over flowing water are best enjoyed with a relaxing two-hour stroll. If you have extra time, head to the Mojiang Tropic of Cancer Park; the ticket plus Twin Coffee and Planetarium package is CNY 48.9, and stargazing at night is CNY 88. For Jingmai Mountain, visit the Ancient Tea Forest and Nuogang Ancient Village; the tea-making experience is CNY 129, and the direct shuttle from Simao is about CNY 240. Staying overnight to see the morning mist makes the trip truly worthwhile. Transportation guide 🚕 Upon arrival, check Trip.com to book your train to Pu'er Station or flight to Simao Airport. For trips from the city to Taiyanghe, the Tea Expo Garden, or the Ancient Tea Horse Road, taking a taxi or hiring a car is the most worry-free option. Prices for impromptu carpooling on the roadside are chaotic, and you might get taken for a ride, which is infuriating. Taiyanghe is in the direction of Dakaihe in Simao; if you're driving yourself, navigate to the official park entrance. Parking fees are charged according to the park's daily standard—don't trust strangers on the side of the road offering "shortcuts." Nake'li is easy to reach from Ning'er; if you're not driving, check Trip.com for a one-day shuttle or take a train to Ning'er and then a taxi. For Jingmai Mountain, don't attempt to drive if you're a novice; there are many curves and the signal is spotty. Taking a direct shuttle or booking a local driver in advance is safer. Mojiang is between Kunming and Pu'er; taking a high-speed train to Mojiang Station and then a taxi to the park is the most comfortable way. Use Trip.com for all your ticket purchases, changes, and schedule checks. Don't waste time arguing with scalpers at the station entrance—it's just plain silly. Authentic food ☕️ Pu'er isn't just about tea; the coffee is also top-notch. Find a small shop in Simao Old Street for pour-over coffee, paired with grilled milk fans and rice noodles. Peanut soup rice noodles for breakfast are affordable and filling. For farm-style dishes around Nake'li, order the free-range chicken, wild vegetables, and tofu feast—it's most cost-effective when split among three to five people. Near the Tea Expo Garden, tea-infused meals like tea-leaf scrambled eggs and tea-scented pork ribs are quite palatable; if you find the formal set menus too expensive, just order à la carte. At the night market, grab some Dai-style barbecue or a sour bamboo shoot hot pot, paired with local ripe Pu'er tea to cut the grease. In Mojiang, try the Hani bean rice and purple rice dessert—a bowl is perfect after getting tired at the Tropic of Cancer Park. In the Wengji and Nuogang areas of Jingmai Mountain, stay in the village and eat home-cooked Blang dishes; they are sour, spicy, and refreshing. Don't impulsively stock up on pounds of tea at the scenic spots; try brewing it first, note the variety, and then check Trip.com for reputable tea companies to restock later—it's safer. For those with a sweet tooth, go for coffee jelly or tea-flavored ice jelly. Having one after a tiring day of exploring in October will make your exhaustion melt away.

Pu'er 2-Day Trip | Coffee in one hand, tea in the other: Experience the dual life of a city for CNY 1,200 Before I went, I thought Pu'er was only about tea. Once there, I discovered the city's true charm lies in the contrast of "coffee in one hand, tea in the other"—one moment you're walking on the hoof-printed stone slabs of the century-old Tea Horse Road, the next you're zoning out in a "moon meditation room" hidden in a sea of coffee forests. Pu'er doesn't compete or rush; it quietly lets both lifestyles grow on the same land. A word of truth before you go Pu'er stays between 18–26°C year-round, which is incredibly comfortable. The spring tea season from March to May is best for photos, while the dry season from October to December offers the highest chance of seeing a sea of clouds. The rainy season from June to September makes mountain roads slippery, and while the coffee cherries aren't red yet, the tea mountains are a lush, soothing green. No matter when you visit, a pair of comfortable walking shoes is a must. Day 1 | The old days of the Tea Horse Road × The new soul of a cup of coffee 07:30 Nake'li: Enjoy a thousand-year-old ancient road all to yourself before the tourists arrive Depart from Pu'er Station and take the direct scenic shuttle (CNY 25/person, 40 mins) straight to Nake'li Village in Ning'er County. Arrive before 8:00 AM, and the entire bluestone road is practically yours alone. Nake'li is a living fossil on the Tea Horse Road, with very little commercialization. Clear water trickles under the century-old Wind and Rain Bridge, and horse hoof prints are clearly visible on the stone slabs—left by caravans over hundreds of years during the Ming and Qing dynasties. First, visit the Rongfa Horse Inn, a free-to-enter century-old house where traces of caravan life remain on the stoves and in the stables. Then, find a tea stall by the ancient road, sit down, and have the owner brew a pot of local young-tree tea. Don't buy the "thousand-year-old ancient tree" tea; just drink the seasonal young-tree tea. It's reasonably priced and has a great aftertaste. Secret photo spot: The side of the Wind and Rain Bridge, with the stream and ancient banyan tree as a backdrop—a quick snap on your phone looks cinematic. 12:00 Nake'li Lunch · Caravan Cuisine (approx. CNY 45/person) The "Mabang Renjia" restaurant at the village entrance is where locals eat. The Pu'er tea-scented chicken is a must-order—local chicken braised with Pu'er tea leaves, the tea aroma seeping into the meat, making it tender and not dry. Pair it with a bowl of wild vegetable tofu soup for a refreshing, non-greasy meal. 14:00 China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden: Press your own tea cake (Admission: CNY 50) Return from Nake'li to Simao District and head to the China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden. This isn't just a place to "look at tea gardens"—the real value is the DIY experience of picking, stir-frying, and pressing your own tea cake. Hand-pick fresh leaves in the ten-thousand-acre tea garden, follow the master to kill the green, roll the leaves, and finally press them into a tea cake to take home. This cake is your "time capsule" of the trip; drink it after a few years at home, and the taste will tell you the meaning of this journey. If you're not in a rush, climb the observation deck to overlook the entire tea field. The sight of clouds and tea ridges intertwined is better than any filter. 18:30 Simao Old Street · Daijia Lane: The "B-side" of Pu'er is hidden in the alleys After returning to the city, head to the Daijia Lane ancient architectural complex. It's a retro red-brick district renovated from the old local committee compound. It's free, and walking in feels like traveling back to the 1980s. Deep in the alley hides an unassuming little coffee shop. The owner is a local "second-generation coffee maker." Hand-drip a cup of Pu'er sun-dried beans, where fruit and nut flavors intertwine—you'll realize for the first time that Pu'er coffee really doesn't need milk or sugar to hide anything. For dinner, go to Nanzheng Street in Simao Old Street and find a bowl of sour vinegar rice noodles. Pu'er locals eat rice noodles in a unique way: first, take a bowl, add chives and seasonings, and tell the owner how much meat you want. The sour vinegar is served in a separate small bowl. Take a sip and squint at the sourness, then dip the rice noodles in. The sour, spicy, and fresh flavors hit the roof of your mouth. 21:00 Night tour of Daoshenggen Park (Free) On the way back to the homestay, stop by Daoshenggen Park. A 500-year-old banyan tree creates a spectacle of "one tree, two seasons"—the east side is full of fruit, while the west side has green branches and leaves. The park is small, but the lights on the ancient tree at night have a quiet power. Accommodation recommendation: Yizhenyun Homestay near Meizi Lake, approx. CNY 150–200/night. Turn right when you leave, and you're at the Meizi Lake boardwalk. The owner is very easygoing. Day 2 | "Waste" a morning in a coffee estate, then get healed by red pandas 08:00 Morning walk at Meizi Lake (Free) Wake up early and take a walk in Meizi Lake Park. The 3.9 km wooden boardwalk around the lake is flat and easy to walk. In the early morning, there is often a light mist on the lake, with egrets and wild ducks wandering on the shore. This is where locals exercise in the morning; it's free and lacks the hustle and bustle of tourists. After the walk, have a bowl of pea-soup rice noodles nearby—thick pea soup made from ground peas poured over freshly steamed rice noodles, topped with meat sauce, bean sprouts, and pickled radishes. It's soft, fresh, and sweet. 10:00 Xiaoaozi Coffee Estate: Unlimited tasting of 9 types of coffee for CNY 60 (Admission: CNY 60) Pu'er is a high-quality coffee production area in China, but most guides recommend "internet-famous" estates. I prefer to recommend Xiaoaozi—it's not new or "internet-famous," but it has the real story of three generations of coffee makers. For CNY 60, you can taste 9 different types of coffee and coffee cherry tea unlimitedly. Professional baristas will take you through the whole process of fermentation, de-pulping, and drying, and then you can grind and brew a cup yourself. After drinking, you will re-understand one thing: Chinese coffee is not a "cheap substitute"; it has its own unique terroir—a flavor that carries the breath of distant mountains and forests. Money-saving tip: Admission is free (Xiaoaozi charges CNY 60 for unlimited tasting), and the hand-drip experience is CNY 30+/person. If you don't want to spend CNY 60, Dakaihe Meizi Coffee Estate has free admission, with hand-drip coffee at CNY 25–40. Their "Moon Meditation Room"—a hemispherical building made of coffee husk waste—is very photogenic for sitting inside, zoning out, and looking at the mountains. 12:30 Coffee estate light meal (approx. CNY 30/person) Most coffee estates offer light meals, coffee paired with Dai-style snacks—simple but flavorful. You can also go back to the city to eat. 14:00 Taiyanghe Forest Park: Go pet a red panda (Package ticket: CNY 135, includes round-trip electric shuttle) In the afternoon, go to Taiyanghe Forest Park. The CNY 135 package includes admission and the electric shuttle. I highly recommend buying the package—the park is huge, and walking will make you doubt your life. There is only one core experience: feeding red pandas. They are most active in the morning, but the afternoon is not bad either. Staff will guide you, and watching them hold an apple and gnaw on it up close will temporarily clear away any worries. Along the wooden boardwalk, you can also see white-cheeked gibbons and take a light hiking route in Rhino Flat, which is easy to finish in 1.5 hours. 16:30 Last stop before leaving: Pu'er Museum (Free) If you still have time, go to the Pu'er Museum to see the physical sand table of the Tea Horse Road. In 20 minutes, you can connect what you've seen over the past two days into a complete narrative. Then buy souvenirs—don't buy "ancient tree tea" with fancy packaging. Go to the little coffee shop in Daijia Lane to buy a bag of locally roasted coffee beans, or buy a cake of young-tree tea from a tea farmer in Nake'li. It's authentic and not expensive. Budget breakdown (per person) Item | Cost High-speed rail (Kunming South ↔ Pu'er Station) | CNY 300 Scenic shuttle + city taxi/ride-share | CNY 150 Accommodation (1-night homestay) | CNY 180 China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden admission | CNY 50 Taiyanghe Forest Park package | CNY 135 Xiaoaozi Coffee Estate | CNY 60 Dining (4 main meals + snacks + coffee) | CNY 250 Souvenirs | CNY 75 Total | CNY 1,200 (Excludes transportation to Kunming) A few honest tips to avoid pitfalls · Don't book a car last minute: Chartering a car in the city costs CNY 260–350 per day. Agree on the route and waiting time a day in advance, and clarify the mountain road mileage separately. · Don't buy tea on the roadside randomly: If they start with "thousand-year-old ancient tree king," you're already losing money. · Choose just one coffee estate: Pu'er's coffee estates each have their own characteristics, but the experience logic is similar. Spending half a day experiencing one in depth is more worthwhile than rushing to three. · Nake'li doesn't require an admission ticket: It's free to enter, with separate charges for experience items. · Bring motion sickness medicine: Pu'er has many winding mountain roads, and you'll need it on the way to Nake'li. The most charming thing about Pu'er is not any specific attraction, but the "no rush" pace it gives you. Two days is just enough for you to put down your phone and find a long-lost sense of relaxation between the tea mountains and coffee forests. If you are also tired of checklist-style travel, Pu'er will be the place that makes you want to "come again".

First time in Pu'er? Whatever you do, don't book a group tour—here's the honest truth✨ I genuinely advise friends visiting Pu'er for the first time: don't be tempted by cheap group tours! Pu'er's attractions are scattered across various districts and counties—tea mountains, rainforests, and ancient villages are far apart. Cheap tours are full of traps, rushing you through sights while wasting time at tea shopping stops. It's nearly impossible to truly savor the tea aroma or taste authentic Dai and Wa cuisine. Exploring at your own pace is the best way to experience this tea city in southern Yunnan! ❌ Why I don't recommend group tours 1. Large geographical span, with most of your time spent in a vehicle. Taiyanghe Forest Park, Nakeli Tea Horse Station, and the Pu'er Tea Expo Garden are all a drive away from downtown, and the Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest is even further. Group tours have tight schedules, rushing you through each attraction; you'll barely get off the bus before it's time to leave, leaving no time to quietly relax in the tea gardens or stroll through the rainforest. 2. Many hidden costs. Many cheap tours that claim to be "pure play" will push Pu'er tea, coffee, and ethnic handicrafts along the way. Tea picking, tea processing experiences, and scenic shuttle buses are usually extra, self-paid items, and you'll be pressured to spend. There are also traps where free tea tastings are used to lure you into shops. 3. Poor food experience. Group meals are generic, and it's hard to find the hidden local gems. You'll likely miss out on specialties like pounded chicken feet, peanut soup rice noodles, and Lahu roast chicken. 4. Rigid itinerary. Mountain weather is changeable; you can't stop for long when you see beautiful cloud seas or tea fields. If you want to adjust your route on the fly or find a cafe you like, you have zero autonomy with a group tour. 🗺️ Relaxed 3-day, 2-night self-guided itinerary Day 1 Simao downtown slow stroll | Simao Old Street + Daijia Lane → Meizi Lake Park → Wuyi Night Market Arrive and check into Simao District, which is convenient for getting around and finding food. In the afternoon, take a citywalk through Simao Old Street and Daijia Lane; there are many artistic shops in the old arcades, making for a quiet and healing experience. Afterward, head to Meizi Lake Park for a walk along the lakeside boardwalk. The lake is surrounded by green trees, perfect for clearing your mind. In the evening, head straight to the Wuyi Night Market, a local gathering spot with a rich variety of Dai snacks and tropical fruits. Day 2 Rainforest + Tea Horse Road | Taiyanghe Forest Park → Nakeli Tea Horse Station Start early and head to Taiyanghe Forest Park, a Tropic of Cancer rainforest where you can see red pandas up close. The forest boardwalk is great for getting some fresh air. The park is large, so I recommend buying a shuttle bus ticket to save energy. In the afternoon, go to the Nakeli Tea Horse Road, a century-old horse caravan post station. With its bluestone paths, streams, and suspension bridges, it's a great place to sit down, drink a pot of Pu'er tea, and experience the horse caravan culture. Return to the city in the evening; if you have time, you can stroll through the Tea Horse Ancient City and maybe catch an ethnic bonfire dance. Day 3 Deep dive into the 10,000-acre tea fields | Pu'er Tea Expo Garden, return trip Dedicate the whole day to the tea gardens. The layered, 10,000-acre tea fields are lush and green. You can experience tea picking and tea cake pressing to immerse yourself in Pu'er tea culture. If you like coffee, you can stop by the Xiaoouzi Coffee Manor on the way to taste freshly roasted pour-over coffee. After you're done, pack up and head home. If you have extra time, you can add a day to visit the Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest—remember to book your park entry online in advance. 🍜 Must-eat food list in Pu'er ✅ Erzhong Chicken Feet: Pu'er's signature snack. Sour, spicy, and flavorful, it's addictive and a must-buy. ✅ Peanut Soup Rice Noodles: The gold standard for local breakfast. A rich peanut soup paired with soft rice noodles, it's fresh, fragrant, and comforting. ✅ Paoluda: A Nanyang-style dessert with coconut milk and dried bread, refreshing and palate-cleansing. ✅ Lahu Roast Chicken: Slow-roasted over charcoal, the skin is crispy and fragrant, and the meat is juicy and full of wild flavor. ✅ Pounded Chicken Feet, Pounded Papaya: The soul of Dai cuisine. Sour, spicy, and appetizing, you can find these everywhere at night markets. ✅ Chicken Tofu: An intangible cultural heritage specialty. It's a dish where you eat chicken without seeing the chicken; it's tender, smooth, and savory. ✅ Passion Fruit Fish: The fruity aroma blends with the fish, creating a refreshing broth that fits the Yunnan palate perfectly. ⚠️ Comprehensive guide to avoiding pitfalls on your self-guided trip 1. Transportation: Attractions in the suburbs are far apart, and public transport is limited. If traveling in a group, prioritize renting a car. If traveling solo, choose ride-hailing services on official platforms and refuse illegal taxis on the street. There are many curves in the mountains, so slow down on rainy days. Do not take unmetered taxis at the high-speed railway station. 2. Tea shopping pitfalls: Do not trust "cheap ancient tree tea" promotions at attractions or on the roadside; free tea tastings are highly likely to be sales traps. If you want to buy Pu'er or coffee, prioritize reputable stores in the city. Consume rationally, and don't buy expensive tea if you don't understand it. 3. Nature travel: There is a large temperature difference between day and night in Pu'er, and it's cooler in the mountains, so bring a light jacket. The UV rays are strong, so sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are essential. Mosquitoes are dense in the rainforest and tea gardens, so be sure to bring repellent. The mountain roads can be slippery, so wear non-slip sneakers. 4. Food safety: When eating wild mushrooms, only choose reputable restaurants, ensure they are fully cooked, and do not drink alcohol while eating mushrooms. Confirm prices before buying street food. Respect the customs of the Dai, Lahu, and Blang ethnic groups, and pay attention to your attire when entering villages and temples. 5. Budget overview (per person) Item | Budget | Notes Major transportation (round trip) | CNY 1,500–2,000 | Flights from Taizhou to Pu'er usually require a layover, which is the biggest expense Accommodation (3 nights) | CNY 450–600 | Comfortable hotel in the city center or near the ancient city, approx. CNY 150–200/night Dining (4 days) | CNY 500–700 | Pu'er has a low cost of living; you can eat very well Attraction tickets + local transportation | CNY 200–300 | Tea Horse Ancient City is free; tickets for surrounding attractions are inexpensive Flexible funds | CNY 800–1,200 | Buying tea, taxis, upgraded experiences Detailed 4-day itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Pu'er · City adjustment + explore the ancient city at night Theme: Understand the soul of the Tea Horse Ancient City in one night After arriving at Pu'er Simao Airport, check into your hotel in the city center. Pu'er Airport is only about 3 km from the city center, and taxis are convenient. Take a break in the afternoon; don't rush to the ancient city. Key tip: Go to the Tea Horse Ancient City after 5–6 PM. Travelers have reported that before 7 PM, almost no shops are open in the ancient city, and there are very few people, making it feel underwhelming. It is recommended to set off in the evening, have dinner on the outskirts of the ancient city first, and then walk in after dark. After nightfall, lanterns light up one by one, and the warm yellow glow washes over the ancient stage and the Wind and Rain Bridge, bringing the whole city to life. The bonfire party in the central square is a must-experience: locals in ethnic costumes play the moon guitar and elephant-foot drums, forming a circle to invite tourists to dance. Even if you don't know how to dance, you can instantly join in by stomping your feet and clapping to the rhythm. You can have dinner in the ancient city; grilled tofu, green papaya salad, and Paoluda are all local specialties. Eating while strolling, you can be very satisfied for CNY 30–50 per person. Day 2: Tea Horse Ancient Road ruins · Visit Nakeli Theme: The real ancient road is not in the ancient city Tea Horse Ancient City is a reconstructed cultural tourism town, and the real history is hidden in the surrounding Tea Horse Ancient Road ruins. Today, go to the Tea Horse Ancient Road Ruins Park, which has a relatively complete section of the existing Tea Horse Ancient Road. You can hike or cycle, passing natural landscapes like Cherry Blossom Pond and Gunma Slope along the way. The destination is the Nakeli Post Station, which preserves relics of the caravan culture. Walking on the real bluestone slabs and seeing the hoof prints still on the stones is a completely different experience from the brightly lit, reconstructed streets of last night. If you are interested in tea culture, you can return to the city in the afternoon to visit the Tea Horse Ancient Road Museum. The caravan tools and old photos in the museum have great historical value. In the evening, return to the city for an authentic Pu'er meal; chicken tofu, sour bamboo shoot fish, and Baoshao are all worth trying. Day 3: Slow walk in the tea mountains · Be a tea guest for half a day Theme: The soul of Pu'er is in the tea mountains Coming to Pu'er without visiting the tea mountains is like not coming at all. Today, you can charter a car or take a taxi to the surrounding tea mountains (such as in the direction of Kunlu Mountain or Jingmai Mountain) and find a tea farmer's courtyard to sit in. Pu'er's tea mountains are not like tourist attractions; they are more of a lifestyle: sitting in a tea farmer's courtyard, drinking a pot of freshly stir-fried spring tea, and watching the clouds and mist over the distant mountains—wasting an afternoon like this is the right way to experience Pu'er. Dress tip: The temperature difference between morning and evening in Pu'er in September is about 10°C. Short sleeves are enough during the day, but be sure to add a light jacket at night and when going up the mountain. Be sure to wear sneakers or flat shoes when going to the tea mountains; your feet will protest after walking on stone paths and mountain roads for a long time. Carry rain gear with you, as the weather in Yunnan changes in an instant. Day 4: Wrap up in the city · Leisurely return trip Theme: Bring a cake of tea home In the morning, you can stroll through the tea market in Pu'er city and buy a cake of authentic Pu'er tea as a souvenir. Pu'er ripe tea is mild and mellow, very suitable for taking home to drink slowly. If you have enough time, you can also go to the China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden (depending on time) to quickly understand the complete process of Pu'er tea. Return leisurely in the afternoon according to your flight time. There are no direct flights from Taizhou to Pu'er; you usually need to transfer in Kunming or other cities. The total journey including transfers takes about 5–8 hours, so it is recommended to allow plenty of time. Quick guide to avoiding pitfalls (Tea Horse Ancient City special) Don't go during the day. The sun is intense during the day, shops are lazily open, and photos can easily look like a generic ancient town. Be sure to save your shutter for the night. Don't buy the small transport package at the attraction. The Tea Horse Ancient City itself is free to enter. If someone tries to sell you a battery car + cable car package starting from CNY 120, you don't need it at all unless you really want to visit those peripheral paid projects. Don't treat the Tea Horse Ancient City as a tourist attraction to explore. The right way to use it is: take a walk after dinner, join the bonfire dance, eat two skewers of grilled tofu, and then return to the hotel contentedly. 2–3 hours is more than enough. With a budget of CNY 4,000 for 4 days in Pu'er, the biggest advantage is that you don't have to rush. Keep your itinerary relaxed, leave time to daydream in the tea mountains, and dance a few more laps around the bonfire in the ancient city—this trip will be worth it. Wishing you a great cup of tea in Pu'er!

With an average annual temperature of 19.5°C, it's a hidden gem of a city perfect for a relaxing getaway. 🚗 How to get there · Flight: Fly directly to Pu'er Simao Airport. It's only 2 km from the city center, a 10-minute taxi ride away. · High-speed rail: About 2.5 hours from Kunming South Station to Pu'er Station, with frequent departures. · Local transport: Attractions are scattered, so renting a car or hiring a private car is most convenient. It's a great place to rest with a cup of Pu'er small-grain coffee. In the afternoon, head to the China Pu'er Tea Expo Garden (admission CNY 30). The terraced tea gardens stretch for miles. You can experience tea picking, hand-pressing tea cakes, and climb to the observation deck for panoramic photos of the entire tea plantation. In the evening, explore the Tea Horse Ancient City. After dark, the streets are illuminated, and you can join the spontaneous bonfire dances organized by locals in the square. In the afternoon, visit the Nake'li Tea Horse Post Station (free). This century-old caravan village still shows clear hoof prints on its bluestone paths. Sit by the stream, enjoy a bowl of local Leixiang tea, and just relax. Day 3: Jingmai Mountain ancient tea forests (in-depth version) or coffee estates (relaxed version) If you have time and don't get carsick, hire a car early in the morning to visit Jingmai Mountain (a World Cultural Heritage site, about a 2-hour drive with many winding roads). Large temperature difference between day and night: Pu'er has plenty of sunshine but gets cool in the mornings and evenings. Carry a light jacket. 3. Be rational when buying tea: Don't act impulsively when seeing "thousand-year-old tree tea" on the roadside at tourist spots. You must take the sightseeing bus to save energy. 5. Motion sickness warning for Jingmai Mountain: The mountain roads are winding. Take motion sickness medicine half an hour in advance.
