Oman is an amazing country. By law, modern buildings are prohibited, giving you the constant feeling of being in the setting of the animated film "Aladdin." Rent a car. For a first visit, a regular car will suffice unless you plan to tackle mountains or sands on your own (which, by the way, is prohibited by rental rules even for 4WD vehicles). Distances are vast, and public transport is virtually non-existent. Allocate a couple of days to explore the city, visit the old town of Nizwa, and definitely venture into the desert (on the edge of the desert, you can find Bedouin camps on the map—each of them can organize a tour into the sands or camel rides for you). If desired, you can also arrange a seaside vacation—diving with turtles, dolphin watching, etc. There are both individual and group tours available. If you visit during the right season, you can witness baby turtles hatching (usually from April to July, but it's best to confirm). Strolling around the city is better in the evening; firstly, the heat subsides, and secondly, the city lights up beautifully. Visit the "Rozna" restaurant near the airport. The restaurant is designed like a fortress, and the menu features authentic Omani dishes. I highly recommend the goat meat, slow-cooked for two days in an earthen oven.

Sur also has beautiful seaside promenades, and you can visit the small Sur Fort (free entry). For desert clothing, try to wear light colors. Oman might not be very familiar to Japanese travelers, but it’s actually a Japan-friendly country blessed with abundant tourist attractions. Don’t limit yourself to just the capital, Muscat! The best time to visit is between October and March. Even in September or April, if the temperature and humidity are low, it can be quite comfortable. However, the midday heat during the peak summer season can be overwhelming 🥵. While Nizwa can be visited as a day trip from Muscat, staying for at least one night is highly recommended. The atmosphere inside the castle from evening to night is incredibly charming. The moderately touristy Arabian vibe feels romantic💕✨ (though it might not be deep enough for those seeking a more immersive Islamic experience). There are plenty of stylish cafés ☕️💕, with LeCafe being particularly recommended for its ambiance, taste, and excellent service. In the heart of Nizwa is the Fort. It's preserved and restored. It's open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. My husband and I visited the fort around 10 a.m., which is a hot time of year, but we did see schoolchildren from a local school wandering around the fort. Boys and girls were wandering around the fort, asking the teachers a million questions. Children are the same everywhere—curious, noisy, and active. The fort is quite large, so if you don't want to walk with others, it's easy to find a route that's private. Exploring the fort's rooms is a lot of fun; you can touch everything, and no one is holding you back. The fort feels like a mighty structure built to last. You can explore all the rooms, where you can sit on carpets, wells that are still functioning, and you can see many artifacts from past centuries—jewelry and clothing. The fort has a café and a small garden, including a mini zoo, goats and rabbits, and a falaj-type water supply system. You can visit the fort in the afternoon and watch the sunset; it's not too hot at this time, so it's easier to explore the fort's walls and walk on the roof. You can take lots of beautiful photos. My husband and I took a slightly different route. We went for dinner at a restaurant 🍰🫖 near the fort, called Tamrah.
