From my several trips to high altitudes, here’s my experience: 1⃣️ Take Rhodiola for half a month in advance and stop exercising a week before (not sure if it helps, but it’s comforting psychologically) 2⃣️ Bring some Snickers bars and a pack of glucose powder, mix some into a water bottle daily to replenish energy 3⃣️ Bring hand cream for your hands and erythromycin ointment for your nostrils because it’s extremely dry! 4⃣️ Find a hotel with oxygen supply and humidifiers; if possible, choose one with floor heating, which is much better than air conditioning heating! 5⃣️ Upon arrival at the hotel 🏨, breathe oxygen for half an hour before going out, and do the same after a day of sightseeing. . 🏔️ About Food and Accommodation . 🍡 Food In the first few days, I tried yak meat and sweet tea. Later, I ate lighter meals because yak meat tends to cause heatiness. . 🏨 Accommodation We stayed near Barkhor Street, one on Linkuo Road and one on Beijing East Road. Beijing East Road is closer to various attractions, right across from Barkhor Mall, and you can see the Potala Palace from the street. Actually, staying in the city center makes it convenient to go anywhere. . 🏔️ About the Itinerary . For example, in winter, 📍Barkhor Mall actually opens at 10 AM and closes at 7 PM. 🔸 If you’re not interested in the Karola Glacier, you can just join the half-day tour of 📍Yamdrok Lake. How to get there: From Lhasa, navigate directly to "Qiongmugangga Snow Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Reception Center," then proceed along the small road beside Provincial Road 303 to reach the destination. The scenic area charges a sanitation fee of 10 yuan per person. The parking lot is at an altitude of over 5,100 meters, and the ice surface is at about 5,200 meters. Road condition information: The round trip is about 400 kilometers, including highways, provincial roads, and country roads. The total driving time is about 7.5 hours. The entire route is paved, but shaded areas tend to accumulate snow. The road is narrow with many curves, so drive slowly. Notes: It is windy and cold on the mountain, with strong UV rays. First of all, this is not to encourage everyone to go to Qiongmugangga very late, absolutely do not go alone, because there may be bears and wolves at night. But based on our experience, we want to tell you what you can do and see if you set off for Qiongmugangri at 2 PM. 👾🤗 1️⃣ We left Lhasa at 2 PM and arrived at Qiongmugangri a little after 5 PM. Those who wanted to take photos started climbing up, worried that once the sun completely set, it would be hard to get good shots. At the parking area, there was a small stall selling grilled sausages and instant noodles, but no other shops or convenience stores, including no toilets. At the entrance, there was a sign that said Qiongmugangga 7000 meters. 2️⃣ Follow the fenced path uphill; it starts with uphill steps and becomes flatter and easier as you go higher. Our goal was the sacred lake. We were almost the last group to go up. If you arrive early, after visiting the blue ice of the sacred lake, you can continue climbing higher for even more beautiful scenery. The distant deep mountains along the way, decorated with prayer flags or long paths, are very picturesque, along with mani stones and the moon, yaks, and snowfields—a very beautiful sight. We snapped a few shots on film. As southerners, it was our first time in over twenty years lying on thick ice; thanks to the sacred lake for welcoming me. But actually, just observing from a distance nearby is a more respectful way to enjoy it. 3️⃣ We didn’t expect the highlight of this trip to be on the way down. We were among the later groups descending. First, we took photos in the thick snow (see p11), then the sunset truly began. As we descended, the sun gradually set completely, and the entire sky continuously displayed different gradient colors. We were amazed and cheered at this natural masterpiece. - 💰: The main cost this trip was fuel, about 360 yuan. 🫶🏻 Suggestion: It’s best to travel with companions for safety first. Wear plenty of windproof and warm clothing. This lady underestimated it and ended up catching a cold and suffering from altitude sickness. It’s best to bring some food; the mountain stall’s ham sausages cost 8 yuan each, and the last two were 5 yuan each but they wouldn’t give me any, sob.
