#underratedspots When looking for a weekend city break, Moldova probably isn't the first place that pops into your head. In fact, Chișinău is known for being one of the least visited capital cities in Europe. But if you want an authentic trip with absolutely zero tourist crowds, this is the ultimate spot. The city is a crazy mix of shiny Orthodox churches, massive Soviet monuments, and raw urban architecture. Here is what you should check out: 📍 The Triumphal Arch & Nativity Cathedral: Right in the center of the city. Unlike Paris or Rome, you don't have to fight 500 people for a photo here. You can just grab a coffee and actually enjoy the park. 🏛️ Presidential Palace: This building looks like a glass spaceship landed in the middle of the city. A super unique piece of late-Soviet architecture with those massive gold-tinted windows. ⛪ Ciuflea Monastery: You can't miss this one. The bright sky-blue walls and heavy gold domes look almost unreal against the everyday concrete buildings nearby. 🏢 Hotel Național: Right in the city center stands this massive abandoned Soviet-era hotel. It’s rough, slowly decaying, and totally fascinating if you are into urban exploration and raw city history. Do you prefer visiting famous tourist hotspots, or do you actively look for these overlooked, off-the-radar cities? 🗺️ Let me know in the comments! 👇 #chisinau #moldova #easterneurope #offthebeatenpath #citybreak #architecture

One of Europe's most underrated capitals, yet full of surprises for those willing to explore. 🇲🇩🌳 Walked through the iconic Triumphal Arch and admired the beautiful Nativity Cathedral, before wandering among the city's leafy parks and historic monuments. Relaxed by Valea Morilor Lake, where ducks glide across the water and nest on their tiny island homes, then climbed the elegant Cascade Stairs for panoramic views over the city. Chișinău may not be on every traveller's bucket list, but that's exactly what makes it special. It's peaceful, green, welcoming, and refreshingly uncrowded—a hidden European gem where you can enjoy authentic local culture without the crowds. #Chisinau #Moldova #TriumphalArch #NativityCathedral #ValeaMorilor #CascadeStairs #HiddenEurope #UnderratedDestinatio ns #TravelPhotography #Wanderlust #TouristKungFu #kungfutourist ✈️📸

Okay, so why do people always say “Moldova? Why bother?” Every time we told friends we were going to Chisinau, it was all like, “Isn’t it dangerous? Isn’t it super poor? There’s nothing to see, right?” Spoiler alert: Everyone is missing out BIG time! 🙌 Yeah, you do need a passport to roll in, but honestly, Moldova totally surprised us! Chisinau is packed with gorgeous old-school buildings—seriously, some spots looked straight out of Pinterest 😍 And when we ventured just outside the city, the vibe stayed awesome (even if the roads were a little sketchy, ngl). You’ll find so many chill places, cool local cafes, and friendly faces everywhere. We didn’t feel unsafe at all; in fact, Moldova felt super welcoming. Plus, since it’s not overflowing with tourists yet, you can actually enjoy everything without the crowds—even the top spots like Parcul Central (Central Park, Strada Eugen Doga, Chisinau, open daily) and the iconic Cathedral Park (Piața Marii Adunări Naționale). Trust me—don’t sleep on Moldova! Take advantage of the low-key travel scene and explore while it’s still under the radar. Moldova is sooo much more than people say, and Chisinau is just the start! 🎒✨

Spend a perfect day in Chișinău, Moldova’s charming capital, blending history, culture, and wine. Here are seven unmissable experiences, all within a walkable city center or a short trip, perfect for a day of exploration. Nativity Cathedral & Cathedral Park 🔔 Start your day at the heart of Chișinău in Cathedral Park. The Nativity Cathedral, built in 1830, dazzles with its neoclassical exterior and ornate golden interior. Stroll the park, a local favorite, and admire the nearby Triumphal Arch, a symbol of Russian victory over the Ottomans in 1828. Perfect for photos and people-watching. Stephen the Great Central Park 🌳 Just steps away, this historic park spans 7 hectares and is ideal for a morning walk. See the statue of Stephen the Great, Moldova’s legendary ruler, and the Alley of Classics with busts of Moldovan writers. Grab a coffee from a nearby kiosk and soak in the serene vibe. Valea Morilor Park 🏞️ Head to this scenic park for a peaceful escape. Walk around the lake, spot the tiny 11cm Little Prince statue on the fence, and enjoy the cascading water feature. It’s a great spot for a picnic or a relaxing break. National Museum of Fine Arts 🎨 Dive into Moldova’s cultural heritage at this renovated museum. Its white galleries showcase vibrant works by artists like Mihai Grecu. Spend an hour exploring for a glimpse of the nation’s artistic soul. Cricova Winery 🍷 Take a short 20-minute ride to Cricova Winery for a guided tour of its 120km limestone tunnels, housing millions of bottles. Enjoy a wine tasting of Moldova’s finest reds and whites—a must for wine lovers. La Plăcinte 🥟 Savor authentic Moldovan cuisine at La Plăcinte. Try plăcintă (savory or sweet pastries) or tocana cu mamaliga, a traditional dish with polenta and meat. Affordable and delicious, it’s a culinary highlight. Chișinău State Circus 🎪 End your day at this iconic Soviet-era building. Though under restoration, its unique architecture is a striking finale. Snap a photo and reflect on Chișinău’s blend of past and present. Tips: Use Yandex Go for taxis, carry some Moldovan Leu (MDL), and enjoy Chișinău’s affordable charm. This itinerary covers history, nature, art, and cuisine for a perfect day!

My journey to Cahul was a wonderful experience filled with peaceful landscapes, local culture, and the charm of a city that carries its own unique atmosphere. Located in the southern part of Moldova, Cahul is a place where traditions, nature, and everyday life come together in a beautiful way. 🌳 One of the highlights of visiting Cahul was enjoying the calm rhythm of the city and its connection with nature. The surrounding landscapes, green spaces, and welcoming atmosphere make it a perfect destination for those who want to escape the noise of big cities and experience a more authentic side of Moldova. 🏛️ Walking through Cahul, I discovered a city with history, character, and a strong sense of community. The local architecture, cultural landmarks, and traditional influences show the deep roots and identity of this region. 🍲 The local culture and hospitality made the experience even more memorable. Meeting people, exploring the streets, and observing daily life gave me a deeper appreciation for the warmth and simplicity that define Cahul. 📸 Every journey creates memories, and Cahul left me with unforgettable impressions — a place where you can slow down, enjoy the moment, and discover the beauty hidden in ordinary places. ⭐ I would recommend Cahul to anyone looking for an authentic Moldovan experience, peaceful scenery, and a chance to explore a less-known but truly charming destination. 🇲🇩✨ #Cahul #Moldova #TravelExperience #HiddenGems #ExploreMoldova #TravelMemories

Why Moldova, and why NOW? Moldova just became Europe’s fastest-growing tourism destination. In the first half of 2026, international tourist arrivals jumped 25% compared to the same period last year — the highest growth rate recorded anywhere in Europe, according to the latest UN Tourism World Barometer. For comparison, Greece and Ireland grew 15% each. Globally, international arrivals rose just 0.4% in the same period. Moldova didn’t just beat the trend — it obliterated it. The country welcomed 257,300 tourists in accommodation structures between January and June 2026, up 15.8% year-on-year. Of those, 159,600 were non-residents — 62% of the total. Hotels and motels saw the biggest surge at 23.9%, followed by tourist and agritourism guesthouses at 10.9%. But here’s what the algorithm won’t tell you: most visitors land in Chișinău, visit Cricova, and leave. They miss the hobbit villages, the cliffside cave monasteries, and the underground wine cities where Moldova actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value — the intel that saves money, unlocks hidden places, and makes locals smile. Save it. You’ll use it. 🚌 TRANSPORT: The 7-Lei Trolleybus That Beats Every Taxi The mistake starts at Chișinău Airport. Taxis quote 200–300 MDL to the city center. The trolleybus and bus network costs a flat 7 lei (about €0.35) per ride — up from 6 lei as of May 2026. Buy tickets at kiosks or pay the driver. For unlimited travel, a monthly pass costs 273 lei (€13.50). The marshrutka rule. Moldova’s marshrutkas (shared minibuses) connect every town and village. Chișinău to Orheiul Vechi costs around 30–40 lei. Chișinău to Soroca (the “Gypsy capital” with its hilltop fortress) runs 60–80 lei for a 2.5-hour journey. They leave when full — show up early. Cash only. The wine cellar taxi. For Cricova or Mileștii Mici, you don’t need a tour bus — a taxi from Chișinău costs 150–250 lei each way. Split between two or three people, it’s cheaper than most group tours. 🍲 FOOD: The 25-Lei Plăcintă That Beats Every Restaurant Moldovan food is not fancy. It’s plăcinte — stuffed pastries with cheese, potato, cabbage, or sweet cherries, sold from every bakery and street stall. It’s mămăligă — the cornmeal porridge that anchors every meal. And it’s zeama — a sour chicken soup with noodles that cures everything from hangovers to heartbreak. The La Plăcinte rule. The chain La Plăcinte is Moldova’s unofficial national restaurant. A plăcintă costs 25–40 MDL (€1.20–2). A full lunch — soup, main, and drink — runs 150–200 MDL (€7–10). Look for the location with the longest line of locals at lunchtime. That’s the one. Must-try, ranked: · Plăcinte — the everyday staple. 25–40 MDL. · Mămăligă cu brânză — polenta with sheep cheese and sour cream. The national comfort food. 80–120 MDL. · Zeama — sour chicken noodle soup. The Moldovan cure-all. 50–80 MDL. · Sarmale — cabbage rolls with pork and rice. The Sunday ritual. 100–150 MDL. · Moșneag de casă — a traditional dessert baked for hours in a wood-fired oven. 28 lei per 100 grams. The wine rule. Moldova has the world’s largest wine cellar — Mileștii Mici, with over 2 million bottles in 200 km of underground tunnels. A standard wine tour with tasting costs 280 lei (€14) for two wines and a platter, or 600 lei (€30) for a guided cellar tour with three wines and a traditional feast. At Cricova, tours start at €24 for one wine or €39 for four. 🗺️ HIDDEN MOLDOVA: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Rogojeni (“Hobbit Village”) — In northern Moldova, the village of Rogojeni is home to half-buried stone houses built into grassy hills to resist winter cold and summer heat. They call it the “hobbit village”, and it does look like something from Lord of the Rings. Only about 30 people live here, but the village refuses to vanish — locals have opened homestays and serve traditional food in the stone houses. 2. Orheiul Vechi Cave Monastery — A cliffside cave monastery carved into limestone cliffs above the Răut River, with ancient Tatar ruins and hiking trails over a valley that locals compare to Cappadocia, Turkey. It’s Moldova’s most dramatic landscape — and most foreign tourists have never heard of it. 3. Glamping Goian — Just 10–12 km from Dubăsari, the village of Goian combines nature, tradition, and glamping — camping with all modern comforts. Hike the “Farmecul Nistrului” trail, a 4 km easy walk through meadows, riverbanks, and orchards with scenic viewpoints over the Dniester. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK Moldova is one of the cheapest countries in Europe — particularly for food and local products. · Backpacker: $25–35 per day — hostel dorms, street food, public transport. · Mid-range traveler: $55–80 per day — private rooms, restaurant meals, occasional taxis. · Trolleybus/bus ride: 7 lei (€0.35). · Monthly transport pass: 273 lei (€13.50). · Plăcinte: 25–40 lei (€1.20–2). · Full lunch at La Plăcinte: 150–200 lei (€7–10). · Wine tour with tasting (Mileștii Mici): 280–600 lei (€14–30). · Hostel dorm: 150–250 lei (€7–12) per night. · Guesthouse (private room): 400–700 lei (€20–35) per night. Realistic daily budget: 35 with hostels, plăcinte, and trolleybuses. Mid-range travelers spend around $70 with private rooms, restaurant meals, and a wine tour. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter Moldova runs on warmth, rural hospitality, and the ritual of wine. These aren’t tourist rules — they’re how the country works. 1. Guests are offered food and drink immediately. Soon after arriving at someone’s home, you’ll be offered homemade wine, fruit preserves, or pastries. Accept at least a small portion. Refusing outright is considered rude. During a meal, you’re expected to drink at least a symbolic amount of wine to honor your host. 2. Bring a small gift when visiting a home. Something to eat or drink is appropriate. Don’t arrive empty-handed. This is standard Moldovan hospitality protocol. 3. Greet the eldest or most important person first. In Moldovan culture, you greet the person of highest rank or the host first, then move to others. A handshake is standard for first meetings; friends exchange a kiss on the cheek. 4. Tipping is NOT mandatory. Unlike Western countries, tipping is not expected in Moldova. Rounding up the bill or leaving 5–10% in mid-range to high-end restaurants is appreciated, but not required. Don’t feel pressured. 5. Don’t rush the conversation. Moldovans begin conversations with general topics — family, travel, food — before moving to deeper subjects. Jumping straight to business or personal questions is considered impolite. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You’re planning Moldova in 2026 — it’s Europe’s fastest-growing tourism destination. · You want to see the hobbit village and Orheiul Vechi before the crowds find them. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. Chișinău Moldova nice place to visit and stay.

If you’re in western Ukraine and crave something seriously unique for your feed, the Church of St. Nicholas in Marshyntsi is a must-see! This isn’t your basic countryside church—this red-brick beauty serves major architectural vibes and has stories for days. Why This Church Is a Total Stand-Out 📸 First off, let’s talk style. Most local rural churches = classic wooden builds, but St. Nicholas? This one stuns with its grand unplastered red-brick exterior, Russian Revival/Neo-Byzantine arches, and those iconic onion domes 🧅. Seriously, you’d think you were in a big city from how ~extra~ it looks! The detailed brickwork and dramatic entrances are sooo photogenic—your camera roll will be obsessed. A Little Backstory The village’s OG church was a classic wooden one from 1710, but as Marshyntsi grew bigger, the locals and their priest Ioan Bolbochan decided to glow it up. Thanks to clever funding—hello, selling gravel from the nearby Prut River for new railway construction 👷—they broke ground on this *chef’s kiss* design in 1887, based on finalized blueprints from 1904. Sixteen years (!!) and a ton of work later, it was finally consecrated in 1913. The Church of St. Nicholas is the only spot in all Northern Bukovina and Bessarabia rocking this unplastered red-brick, Neo-Byzantine swag—making it a legit regional legend. Fun fact: future pop icon Ruslan (son of Sofia Rotaru) was baptized here in 1970, and the church celebrated its epic centenary anniversary with a huge ceremony in 2013. Plan Your Visit 🛣️ Still an active Orthodox church, St. Nicholas gives off both spiritual vibes and architectural eye-candy. Here’s how to make the most of your visit: 📍 Address: Svyato-Mykolayivska St, 10, Marshyntsi, Chernivtsi Oblast, Ukraine You’ll find it about 30 km (18.6 miles) southeast of Chernivtsi, right near the borders with Moldova and Romania. 🚗 Getting There: · By car? Cruise from Chernivtsi via highways H10/T2605 (pass through the town of Novoselytsia) · Don’t drive? Regular suburban buses (marshrutkas) run from central bus stations in Chernivtsi straight to Novoselytsia and Marshyntsi. ⏰ Opening Hours & Entry: · Snap exterior pics anytime in daylight. · The inside opens up mainly during morning/evening services, weekends, or big Orthodox holidays. Entry’s *free*, but donations for church upkeep are always appreciated. Insider Tips for Your Visit 💡 · Dresscode check! Guys, hats off inside. Ladies, rock a headscarf and a skirt or dress that covers your knees. (Keep it classy for those epic photos 🥰) · If you wanna take interior pics, ask the parish staff/priest first. Outdoor shots? Snap away, but the brick glows best in early morning or golden hour light. · Respect the peaceful vibe, especially if services are on. This place is proof that legendary Insta spots aren’t just in big cities. The Church of St. Nicholas drops some serious history, culture, and #architecturegoals all in one go. Save it to your bucket list for when you wander western Ukraine! #orthodoxchurch #orthodoxarchitecture #orthodox #orthodoxsplendor #ukrainetravel #ukraine #travelukraine #churches #church #churchlover #byzantinechurches #churchviews #churchview #churchtour

Tap for the country name ✨ This tiny European country should be HIGH on your 2026 bucket list! 🌍 Not only is it the second least visited, but it’s also the 4th smallest country in Europe! Spoiler alert, the least visited country in Europe is @moldova.travel (which is HIGH on my bucket lists!) With only 60-100 thousand visitors every year, it isn’t a country that’s high on many bucket lists (probably because you can drive from one side of the country to the other in 30 minutes). But what it doesn’t have in size, it certainly makes up for in views. 📍Welcome to Liechtenstein I recommend pairing a trip here with nearby Switzerland, Austria or Germany. Spend a couple of days here exploring and soaking up the incredible views. Giowine Hotel & Restaurant is a standout 4-star option, featuring a swimming pool and scenic views of the surrounding area. Best for: 🍷 Wine Tasting | 📸 Photography | 🌿 Relaxation ⸻ 3. 🏡 Orheiul Vechi — Traditional Countryside Stays To experience Moldova’s traditional side, consider staying in the villages of Butuceni or Trebujeni instead of heading back to the city. Moldova Travel recommends staying overnight in these villages to fully immerse yourself in the natural landscape and local hospitality. Notable options include Eco-Resort Butuceni, Casa din Luncă, Casa de Sub Stâncă, and Valea Stâncii.

The images here capture the awe-inspiring Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, nestled within the legendary Manyava Skete—the Ukrainian Orthodox monastery complex dubbed the “Ukrainian Athos.” This stunner is hidden away in the lush Carpathian Mountains, right near the village of Manyava, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine (address: Manyava, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, 78435, Ukraine; opening hours: roughly 8am to 6pm daily, but best to check seasonally). Why all the hype? This spiritual powerhouse has roots stretching all the way back to 1606, when Saint Job of Manyava (Ivan Knyahynytskyi)—an OG ascetic monk who’d been chillin’ on Mount Athos in Greece—brought those strict Athos vibes straight into the Carpathians. He founded the monastery, and by 1628, it was basically THE place for Orthodox spiritual life, overseeing 500+ other monasteries across Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. Epic, right? Major history buff moment: Between 1698-1705, the monastery was home to the drop-dead gorgeous Bohorodchany Iconostasis, crafted by master monk-artist Yov Kondzelevych. This Ukrainian Baroque treasure survived serious drama—wars, closure, and more—and now lives in national museums. After wild centuries (including a forced closure in 1785 by the Hapsburg Austrians and two centuries of haunting ruins), the Manyava Skete is back and thriving. The current wooden Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross—completed in 2001—was built right on top of the OG 17th-century stone foundation. Talk about a spiritual glow-up! What to See & Do: · Snap pics of the monastery’s grand stone tower, the revived church, and the atmospheric underground Church of the Archangel Michael. · Don’t miss the miraculous 17th-century Abbess Manyavska and 18th-century Virgin Hodegetria icons—serious spiritual creds. · Make that mini-pilgrimage up the scenic 820-meter mountain trail to the Blessed Stone (Blahoslovennyi Kamin): legend says hermit monks lived here in the 13th century! There’s a fresh spring trickling from the rock, and the locals AND travelers swear by its healing magic ✨. Travel Tips: · Dress modestly: Ladies, headscarves & skirts below the knee; gents, trousers (no shorts, sorry!). · The site attracts both eco-adventurers and pilgrims, giving you an awesome mix of chilled-out vibes and deep spiritual history. · Make your trip even more epic by hiking down to Manyava Waterfall—an absolute must-see, with jaw-dropping views and fresh mountain air, just a short trek from the skete. Ready for a hidden-gem adventure with next-level spiritual history and crazy Carpathian scenery? Manyava Skete is about to blow your mind. For easy planning and booking, check trip.com for the best travel options to this legendary Ukrainian sanctuary!

Yep, we finally checked out Tiraspol after seeing it blow up all over social media. But let’s keep it real—most of what people hype about it online is a bit extra or kinda staged. The reality? Pridnestrovia (aka Transnistria) is actually a stunning region wedged between Moldova and Ukraine, and it's got waaay more to offer than you might think. We only had 48 hours to explore, but wow, it was such an epic adventure! We ended up meeting some insanely friendly locals along the way—just a small heads-up, though: brushing up on your Russian will totally unlock the best convos and experiences. If you don’t speak the language, don’t stress, but get ready to use Google Translate a lot! 😅 What really surprised us? The whole “Stuck in Soviet times” vibe is way exaggerated. Sure, they’ve got OG USSR-era statues and throwback monuments scattered around (like the badass Suvorov Monument in the city center—address: Suvorov Square, Tiraspol, open 24/7 for those classic photo ops 📸). But the city itself feels alive, modern, and way more colorful than you’d expect! We wandered down the main street, 25th October Street (Ulitsa 25 Oktyabrya), checked out cozy cafés, and caught the sunset at the Dniester River embankment (super cute spot for golden hour vibes 🌅). So, if you’re after a hype-free, unique Eastern European trip that’s not just Insta-bait, toss Tiraspol on your bucket list! Just remember: cash is king (bring some Moldovan lei or exchange at local spots), and check opening hours for specific attractions or eateries. Bottom line: Tiraspol isn’t just a page from history—it’s got major off-the-beaten-path energy, friendly faces, and a look that’s more “real and raw” than picture-perfect. Don’t let the internet fool you... this city is worth the detour!

But in reality, it has a rich mix of old towns, lush green countryside, vineyards, and a fascinating wine culture. 🍇🍷🌿 Moldova's charm lies in its atmosphere, quite different from Western Europe. The cities aren't filled with large landmarks, but rather offer simplicity, nature, and vast rural areas. Those who love wine and the countryside will particularly enjoy this country. 🏙️ Chișinău The capital of Moldova. The city boasts large parks, shady streets, historic buildings, and architecture from various eras. The atmosphere is relatively relaxed and less bustling than the larger capitals of Eastern Europe. 🏞️ Orheiul Vechi One of Moldova's most distinctive landscapes. This area features limestone cliffs, the Răut River valley, and cave monasteries built along the cliffs. The surrounding countryside offers expansive views and reveals that Moldova has natural beauty that many may not expect. 🍷 Cricova When talking about Moldova, wine is a must. Cricova is one of the most famous wine regions, with a large network of underground tunnels for wine storage. The atmosphere inside is like an underground city filled with long tunnels, wine cellars, and aging barrels. It's a rather different experience from typical wineries. 🌦️ So, which month is best to visit Moldova? Moldova has a continental climate with distinct seasonal changes. 🌸 April–May: Spring The weather starts to become comfortable, nature turns green again, and the countryside looks vibrant. Ideal for sightseeing both in the city and visiting vineyards. ☀️ June–August: Summer Warm to hot weather with long days. Vineyards are lush green, perfect for countryside and winery visits. 🍂 September–October: Autumn A very interesting time for wine lovers. Vineyards are in harvest season, the weather starts to cool down, and the colors of nature become even more beautiful. ❄️ November–March: Winter Cold and sometimes snowy. Cities and the countryside are quieter than during the peak season. ✈️ If this is your first time in Moldova... Want to visit the capital city? → Chișinău Want to see nature and cave monasteries? → Orheiul Vechi Want to experience the world of wine? → Cricova Want to see vineyards and lush countryside? → May–June Want to experience grape harvesting? → September–October 🇲🇩 Moldova may not have the spectacular landmarks of famous European countries, but its charm lies in its simplicity. Vineyards 🍇 Wine 🍷 Countryside 🌿 Old Town 🏘️ Cliffs 🏞️ Eastern European Culture 📜 If you want to try traveling to a country that's different from the popular European itineraries, Moldova is another country worth adding to your list. 🇲🇩✨ #Moldova #MoldovaTravel #Chisinau #OrheiulVechi #Cricova #MoldovaTravel #WineTravel #EasternEurope #EuropeTravel #TravelAbroad

Nobody goes to Moldova. It's the least visited country in Europe. When I told people I was going to Chișinău, they asked where it was. I wasn't sure myself. What I found was a city that doesn't perform for anyone. It's post-Soviet and proud and raw and green. It's a city of parks and monasteries and wine cellars that stretch for hundreds of kilometers. It's the Europe that disappeared everywhere else. Here's how the capital of Moldova surprised me at every turn. 🌳 6:30 AM — The Park That Holds The City Together Chișinău is one of the greenest cities in Europe. The parks are everywhere. I walked through Valea Morilor Park at dawn. The lake was still. The willows hung low. An old man practiced tai chi on the grass. A woman walked her dog. The sun rose over the trees. This is Chișinău before the heat. It's the best time. 🆓 Free 📍 @Valea Morilor Park ⏰ Before 8 AM ☕ 9:00 AM — Coffee In A Soviet Living Room Chișinău has a café called Tucano Coffee. It's not Soviet-themed. It's just warm and cluttered and feels like someone's grandmother's apartment. I ordered a flat white and a pastry filled with sweet cheese. The coffee was strong. The pastry was warm. I sat in an armchair. A cat slept on the windowsill. This is Chișinău. It doesn't try to be trendy. It just is. 💸 40 MDL (about 2 USD) 📍 @Tucano Coffee 🏛️ 11:00 AM — The Market That Never Ends Piața Centrală is Chișinău's main market. It's enormous and chaotic. Vendors sell everything. Fruits. Vegetables. Cheese. Wine. Live chickens. I walked through the stalls. A woman sold pickles from a barrel. She offered me a taste. The pickle was sour and crisp. I bought a jar. A man sold honey from his own bees. He let me taste it. It was dark and floral. I bought a jar too. This is Moldova. Everything is local. Everything is real. 🆓 Free to wander 📍 @Piața Centrală 🍷 1:00 PM — The Wine Cellar That Never Ends Moldova has the largest wine cellar in the world. Mileștii Mici. It's a labyrinth of underground tunnels stretching for 200 kilometers. I took a tour. We drove through the tunnels in a small car. The walls were lined with barrels and bottles. Millions of bottles. The guide told me some of the wine is older than my parents. We stopped for a tasting. The wine was rich and deep and tasted of the earth. This is Moldova's secret. It makes more wine than almost anyone. And it keeps it underground. 💸 150 MDL (about 8 USD) 📍 @Mileștii Mici ⛪ 3:30 PM — The Monastery That Survived The Soviets Căpriana Monastery is outside the city. It was founded in the 15th century. The Soviets closed it. They used it as a hospital. Then a warehouse. Now it's a monastery again. I walked through the gates. The church was white and green. The gardens were quiet. A monk was sweeping the path. He nodded at me. I nodded back. The air smelled of incense and grass. This is Moldova. It's been through everything. It's still here. 🆓 Free, donations welcome 📍 @Căpriana Monastery 🌅 6:00 PM — Sunset From The Steps Of The Opera The National Opera House is a grand Soviet building. The steps are a gathering place. I sat on the steps at sunset. Families walked. Children played. The sky turned pink and orange. A street musician played a violin. This is Chișinău at its most peaceful. The city is not rich. But it has evenings like this. That's enough. 🆓 Free 📍 @National Opera House 🍽️ 8:00 PM — Dinner In A Cellar That Tastes Like Home I found a restaurant called La Taifas. It's in a cellar. The walls are stone. The menu is Moldovan. I ordered mămăligă with cheese and sour cream. Polenta. It arrived hot and creamy. The cheese was sharp. The sour cream was rich. I ate slowly. A band played folk music. This is Moldovan food. Humble and deeply satisfying. 💸 100 MDL (about 5 USD) 📍 @La Taifas 🌙 10:30 PM — The Empty Streets Of A Quiet Capital Chișinău is not a party city. By 10:30, the streets are quiet. I walked through the center. The Soviet buildings glowed under the streetlights. The parks were dark. A cat crossed the street. A night watchman sat outside a bank. The city was peaceful. Chișinău had done its work. It had shown me parks and markets and wine cellars and monasteries. It's not impressive. That's exactly why it matters. 🆓 Free 📍 @Chișinău Center 🏨 Where I Stayed (And Slept In A Palace) Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel — a modern hotel in the center. My room was quiet and cool. Booked via Trip.com. 💸 ~120 USD/night via Trip.com 💡 Five Things Chișinău Whispered To Me · The wine cellar is not optional. It's the largest in the world. Go. · The markets are real. Bring cash. Bargain gently. · Trip.com eSIM had perfect signal even in the underground tunnels. · Learn "bună ziua" (hello) and "mulțumesc" (thank you). The warmth in return is immediate. · Don't expect tourist infrastructure. That's the point. This is real Moldova. Chișinău is not a city that tries to impress. It doesn't need to. It has parks and markets and wine cellars and monasteries and food that tastes like someone's grandmother made it. It's the least visited country in Europe. That's exactly why you should go. I came without expectations. I left with a full heart. Currency: Leu (MDL), 1 yuan ≈ 5 Leu; Credit cards are less accepted in small towns, carry plenty of cash. The exchange rate at the airport is poor; it's more cost-effective to exchange in Chisinau city center. 2. Border Notice: Soroka is adjacent to Ukraine. Do not approach the border restricted area, and avoid taking photos near border facilities. Carry a photocopy of your passport, as police occasionally patrol. 3. Safety: The town is generally safe, and it's safe to walk alone at night. However, women walking alone should be wary of being approached by strangers and are advised to travel in groups. Be mindful of speed when crossing the street, as local vehicles drive fast. 4. Clothing and Equipment: The steps to the Candle of Thanksgiving are steep and the ground is uneven, so wear non-slip shoes. Strong sun protection is needed in summer, and windproof and warm clothing is recommended in winter. Bring plenty of drinking water, as supplies are limited on the trails. 5. Communication: 4G coverage is generally available in the city center, but signal is weak along the riverbank and near the monument. Download offline maps beforehand. You can buy a local SIM card for 30 yuan, which includes 10GB of data. ✨In Conclusion The charm of Soroka lies in the historical weight of its medieval castle, the gentle flow of the Dniester River, the solemn grandeur of the Candle of Thanksgiving, the rustic warmth of its local cuisine, and the tranquility of this border town. It lacks the hustle and bustle of popular destinations, offering only a sense of history and a relaxed atmosphere that allows visitors to unwind and immerse themselves in the unique charm of the Eastern European border region. Spend 1-2 days exploring ancient castles and climbing towers, ascending the Thanksgiving Candle to watch the sunset, strolling along the riverbank in the evening breeze, enjoying corn porridge with red wine, and chatting with locals. Experience the gentle and healing atmosphere of this medieval hidden gem on the banks of the Dniester River. No need to rush; take your time to walk, see, eat, and feel. This is Soroca, a hidden gem in northern Moldova, a must-visit, off-the-beaten-path destination in Eastern Europe.

I didn’t know much about Moldova before my trip, and that was exactly why I decided to go. Sometimes the places with the fewest expectations end up leaving the biggest impression. I began in Chișinău, where leafy boulevards, cozy cafés, and relaxed parks made the city feel welcoming from the very first day. It wasn’t crowded or rushed, and that slower pace quickly grew on me. One of the highlights was visiting Cricova Winery, where I explored miles of underground wine tunnels that felt more like a hidden city than a cellar. Later, I wandered through the peaceful Valea Morilor Park, watching locals enjoy the afternoon around the lake. Wanting to see more of the country, I headed to Orheiul Vechi, an ancient monastery carved into limestone cliffs overlooking a beautiful valley. The scenery was breathtaking, and the silence made the place feel even more special. Before leaving, I visited Soroca Fortress, standing proudly beside the Dniester River, and finished my journey exploring the colorful Central Market, where fresh produce, local cheese, and friendly conversations gave me a genuine taste of everyday life. Moldova may not be Europe’s most famous destination, but its warm hospitality, fascinating history, and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the continent’s most underrated countries. If you’re looking for somewhere authentic and refreshingly different, Moldova is well worth the journey. #moldova

If you're not expecting the luxury level of Rixos or Four Seasons for a modest price, this place is actually quite good. We booked a standard room with a sea view, and that's what we got—only the beach-front rooms were closer to the shore. It takes about two minutes to the beach, although the sea view also included rooftops of the beach-front buildings. Highlights included: a comfortable beach in a wind-free bay (in November, there were a couple of windy days where getting out of the water felt uncomfortable, but the sea itself remained calm), beautiful grounds, helpful staff, and the option to swim along the shore. We swam past Sharm Plaza and could even go further to Blue Reef. Downsides: No breakfast was provided on the day of arrival, leaving us to eat only at 4 PM in our time zone, so prepare for an extended period with no food. The overall dining experience was the hotel’s weak point. Coming from a Turkish 5-star hotel during the previous trip, the initial days were a bit disappointing until I acclimated. Another issue was the fight for sunbeds early in the morning. Due to the time difference, we woke up at 6 AM, and my mom reserved beds, but by 9 AM, sunbeds were still available—though often in less convenient spots. After that hour, finding good locations became much harder; spots by the pools were more readily available. Additionally, loud music begins on the beach from 10 AM with no escape from it. The crowd consisted primarily of Russian-speaking guests from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and the Baltic states, with a few Italians and some locals. A significant number of visitors gave an impression of being unfamiliar with etiquette or refinement. The reef was underwhelming, not meeting expectations. Rooms are decidedly worn, although functional; a general deep clean for the bathroom would be appreciated. Ultimately, if you're on a tighter budget but need firsthand access to the beach, are okay with basic food just enough to stay full, and don't mind spending extra for a sea view, this is a fairly solid choice.
