🛥️ Ferry Views 🌊 - Ventura Harbor, CA
Let’s talk about one of the coolest SoCal adventures you can do: ferry-hopping from Oxnard to Ventura and out to the wild Santa Cruz Islands 🛥️🌊.
Picture this: catching the first, bright-and-early ferry with Island Packers and soaking up those epic ocean sunrise views — dolphins leaping beside your boat, endless blue, distant mountains... honestly, next-level vibes.
Here’s my must-hit spots and tips:
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Oxnard | Island Packers, 3600 Harbor Blvd, Oxnard, CA 93035: Book your roundtrip ferry tickets early; morning rides get you the clearest water and best wildlife views. I caught playful dolphins right from the deck!
2. Ventura | Ventura Harbor Village: Stroll the waterfront before or after your cruise. There’s coffee, cute shops, and chill spots to sit by the marina.
3. Ventura | Island Packers Cruises, 1691 Spinnaker Dr #105B, Ventura, CA 93001 (Open 8AM–5PM): The staff here know all the local wildlife and hiking routes on the islands. Ask for recommendations!
Getting Around:
🚗 Drive and park at Oxnard or Ventura harbors (lots of free parking). All ferry bookings can be done directly with trip.com for a smooth setup.
Where to Eat:
Grab breakfast at Simone’s Coffee & Tea at Ventura Harbor before you set sail, or hit Andria’s Seafood for classic fish & chips when you get back.
Quick destination tips: Santa Cruz Island is pristine, so pack out all trash, bring cash for rental lockers.
😋🧋 After returning by ferry, make sure to stop for boba at Boba By the Sea in Ventura Harbor Village shops before leaving!

🐬 Dolphin Splash Magic 👀 - Ventura Ferry, CA
If you're craving California coastal vibes, this itinerary is for you 🌊🦋!
🛥️ Ventura and Santa Barbara serve up sunny weather, epic ocean views, and outdoor adventure. Highlights? Chasing dolphins on the ferry (seriously magical), soaking up nature on the Channel Islands, and feeling that classic pier energy in Ventura.
To catch the ferry:
1. Ventura - Island Packers
Address: 1691 Spinnaker Dr #105B, Ventura, CA 93001
Start your day hopping on the Island Packers ferry for a 1-hour Channel Islands crossing. Keep your camera ready—dolphins often ride alongside the boat and, if you're lucky, guides sometimes help spot whales! Trust me, seeing dozens of dolphins up close is a thrill even seasoned travelers can't forget.
Watching watching the dolphins make their leaps, a little girl with her family on the boat even said “I’m never gonna forget this!” That was truly sweet to witness. 🥰🐬
To book guides and tours:
1. Santa Barbara - Channel Islands Adventure Company
Address: 520 E Haley St Suite B, Santa Barbara, CA 93103
Dive deeper into adventure—Channel Islands Adventure Company guides you through kayaking, snorkeling, or hiking. The untouched nature is next-level. 🥾
Local Tips:
- If you can, grab the earliest ferry. The sea is calm, the light is unreal, and you’ll dodge the crowds.
- Pack layers — sunny but breezy gets REAL on the open water.
- There is a small snack and coffee bar on the ferry. ☕️🍪
- Bring snacks and a refillable water bottle; once you’re island-side, there’s no food for sale on the islands.

One-Day Trip to the Southern California Deserted Islands|Channel Islands
📅 Documenting the Channel Islands trip at the end of September
🌊 We went to East Anacapa, the smallest island. It looks tiny on the map, but actually walking around the island and taking photos takes at least 2 hours. Highly recommended for first-timers. Compared to Santa Cruz, this one offers a more deserted island experience and feels wilder.
🪶 Departing from Oxnard Harbor ⚓️ When we first landed, the island was still shrouded in mist. The house in the center looks like a prison hhh, but it’s actually an abandoned cabin. The island is full of seagulls—never seen them so densely packed before, feathers everywhere. Watch out for bird droppings.
🚢 Island Packers tickets: There is no shade on the boat, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun. The one-way trip takes 1.5 hours. On the way, the guide took everyone to look for whales. Although this time we only saw a pod of dolphins, it was still worth it. On the way back, the guide also took us on a tour around the island 💯

Planning a trip to LA in early May and looking for a hotel near the Universal Studios (#LosAngelesUrbanStudio). Most hotels in the area are $200-$280 or more, with cheaper ones often having 10-20 rooms, not including breakfast, and requiring nightly parking. After comparing several hotels and prices, I've chosen a reasonably priced one: Comfort Inn Near Old Town Pasadena in Eagle Rock.
Advantages: Low price, about a 20-minute drive, averaging around $100 per night, includes breakfast and parking (parking is important; most hotels charge $15-$18 per night), and is close to Huayi Brothers Studio, Hollywood Boulevard, and Griffith Observatory.
Disadvantages: Poor soundproofing; definitely stay on the second floor! Otherwise, you can hear everyone walking around upstairs on the first floor, and it's impossible to sleep if kids are jumping around at night…
We stayed on the first floor the first night and couldn't sleep, but my partner slept quite well. 🙂 We moved to the second floor the second and third nights and slept very well, it wasn't noisy… However, after the little ordeal the first night, we walked very quietly on the second floor to try not to disturb the people downstairs.
Breakfast was simple: eggs, sausage, yogurt, fruit, and coffee. The price was acceptable. A $100 deposit is required upon check-in.
Tip: This is a good option for those on a budget, but it's only a 2-2.5 star standard. Don't have too high expectations. It was within my budget and not bad.

There is nothing quite like the Channel Islands off the California Coast. I have been to many beaches and oceans, but something about the cold, crisp, misty water of Channel Island is hauntingly beautiful.
I recommend people visit the island but also go diving if possible. Also, try to visit in the fall or summer when the wildlife is vibrant and plentiful for everyone.
