All Moments About Calaceite
An archaeological city that is never-endingly excavated
Walking tour of the Central Plateau of Spain ~ Teruel (Region)
Calacete is located on the eastern slope of a mountain, between the Matarranía River and the Algas River Valley. It is a pleasant town with many beautiful sights: the Parish Church of La Asunción (17th-18th century), a Baroque building with three naves and a magnificent facade; the Renaissance-style town hall; the Church of San Antonio (17th century), located above the intersection of San Antonio Street; as well as the Virgin of San Roque (17th-19th century) and the Hermitage of Our Lady of Pilar (18th century). There is also a Gothic terminal cross (13th-14th century), which has an octagonal column and a simple base, which was rebuilt in the 15th century. Calaceite also retains many 18th-century buildings.
The urban area of Calacete is home to the Iberian archaeological site of San Antonio, where archaeological artifacts dating back to the 5th century have been found.

This small museum is worth a visit both for its interior architecture and exhibitions.

This is a unique opportunity to see inside an estate in the region. All the panelled doors, the beautiful built-in wardrobes and the decorative stucco arches that separated the noble rooms have been preserved. The collection is small but very interesting. I will focus on the ceramic paintings and bronze offerings found in the excavations. The museum is also very photographic It is an 18th century manor house located in the old town of Calaceite and belonged to a wealthy local family. The building was built in 1790 as a private residence and is a magnificent example of civic architecture of the time.

I think this is a necessary visit.

Few Iberian towns give us such a rough idea of what they looked like, very well preserved. You can see the structures of houses on both sides of the mountain. The roofs of their buildings are covered with plants, and the walls are made of adobe, which could not be maintained at the time, but the stone foundations they built have been preserved. Likewise, you can see part of the wall and a cistern. Admission is free and open. Very clean.
I recommend that tourists do not throw garbage or anything on the ground and contribute to the maintenance of the area. Take it to any trash can or dumpster in the nearest town, Calaceite.
