Skudai Café Hopping with Cheesecake, Capybaras & Fairytale Vibes
#summervacay We started the day with a leisurely breakfast buffet at Hotel Granada — nothing too fancy, but comforting and familiar. A mix of local and Western options: nasi lemak, eggs, toast, cereal, and a decent spread of fruits and pastries. It was a relaxed morning, and we took our time over coffee before heading out for another round of cafe hopping.
At 10am, we made our way to Layer Bakehouse — a hidden gem nestled deep in the kampung area of Skudai. Despite its ulu location, it was already buzzing with locals. The interior had clean, minimalist vibes, but the highlight was hands down the pistachio basque cheesecake. Rich, creamy, and bursting with real pistachio flavour — it was one of the best we’ve ever had. We paired it with a peanut butter latte and soaked in the quiet morning calm.
By 12pm, we were at Capyba Cafe, an animal café with a quirky charm. We ordered our drinks and had to dine in downstairs first (minimum order per person), before heading upstairs where the real fun begins. The staff handed us a little salad cup to feed the animals, and we were greeted by capybaras, alpacas, sheep, and even a pony. It was surprisingly clean and well-kept, and the capybara pudding was almost too cute to eat — almost.
At 2pm, we stepped into the magical space that is Lune24 — a glasshouse café that looked like it belonged in a fairytale. Think soft lighting, flowing curtains, floral accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows. We spent a good while just taking in the dreamy atmosphere and snapping photos. Afterwards, we grabbed a drink from Furiku next door — the matcha strawberry yogurt was light, creamy, and just the right balance of sweet and tangy.
We headed to Sutera Mall around 6pm to do a bit of browsing and window shopping — the usual familiar brands and local shops. Then at 8pm, we wrapped up the night at Bestari Walk, an outdoor container-style food court with lively vibes and neon lights. Rows of food stalls, sizzling woks, street food aroma in the air — it was the perfect casual dinner spot. We walked around, picked a little of everything, and sat under the stars enjoying the buzz of the local night scene. A laidback end to a day filled with soft lights, sweet treats, and Skudai charm.
