The Southern Studies Institute is located in Village No. 1, Ao Sai Village, Ko Yo Subdistrict, near the foot of the second section of the Tinsulanon Bridge. The institute was established in 1978 to study the arts and culture of the South. It covers a total area of 23 rai. The building features southern-style architecture.
It is divided into 4 buildings, each divided into rooms that display history and ethnicity, antiques created from the wisdom of local people, weapons and ornaments used in the South, such as kris, flag knives, and chicken tail knives, displaying local woven fabrics, such as Phum Riang woven fabrics and Pattani woven fabrics, displaying coconut grater rabbits in various shapes that are hard to find, displaying local games, such as shadow puppetry, Nora, and Pa Likay, displaying the Southern lifestyle, such as displaying games and children's toys, such as playing satraw, flying kites, and spinning tops, displaying ordination traditions, and displaying ancient medical treatments.
