[Maui, Hawaii] Sunrise viewing from Mount Haleakala 🌅
One of the highlights of sightseeing in Maui,
Mt. Haleakala, which is about 3,000m above sea level, is a place I definitely wanted to go to🙋♂️
People visit at different times, such as sunrise, daytime, and sunset, but I went for the most popular sunrise!
I left the town of Kihei where I was staying at 1:30am,
and drove along dark roads for about 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach the summit.
Driving in the dark was quite nerve-wracking,
and I was quite tired going up the winding mountain road💦
If you want to visit safely and securely, a tour might be a good idea, even if it's a little expensive🤔
When I got out of the car, there was a starry sky🌌
The camera function of the single-lens camera I brought with me didn't work, so I took a picture with my iPhone,
but even so, the real world is magnificent😉
The parking lot was full of cars by around 5 o'clock,
so I got a spot next to the visitor center and waited for the sunrise.
Then, just after 6:10,
we were able to watch the sun rising from behind the clouds. 🎉
A sunrise ceremony is also held next to the visitor center,
and it's popular so it's a good idea to go early and secure a spot. ☝️
We were able to start the day with a refreshing feeling. ✨
But then the clouds approached at a rapid pace and we were suddenly in a foggy world. 😱
If the weather had been good, we would have been able to enjoy the unique and majestic natural beauty,
but unfortunately that ended in failure. 💦
After that, we spent some time at the summit,
and the last photo was taken in the few seconds when the fog cleared.
There is an observatory and other facilities at the summit.
On the way back, the fog cleared as we went down,
and we enjoyed the scenery of Maui, which we couldn't see on the way there in pitch black.
We went down the mountain while enjoying the scenery.
I'm glad I got to experience the nature of Maui😊
Even though it's August, it's still pretty cold on the summit, so don't forget to dress warmly when you visit⚠️
