Teahouse Patio Inn Address: 2633-1 Kawakami, Yufuin-cho, Yufu, Oita Price level: Dessert from 476 yen, coffee from 571 yen, savory food from 1,300 yen Teahouse Tensei Kanshiki is a cafe converted from an ancient wine cellar, opened by Turtle no Ii, one of Yufuin's top onsen inns, Gosanma. The store is dimly lit, the space furnishings have a time-lapse retro feel, every window, every little lamp, seems to have its own story. Due to its close proximity to Golden Scale Lake, many people come for a coffee break after a walk around the lake. Since we haven't had lunch yet, we ordered a few savory dishes. There are not many choices, but everything is delicious - pasta with basil green sauce, beef stew in red wine, fried pork rib sandwich... and finished with cheesecake and House Blend black coffee, perfect. The service was also quite attentive, the waiter helped us pack the stroller and arranged a porch spot that would not affect other guests, so that we, hungry and soaked by heavy rain, had a quiet little corner to slowly recover. If you come for a walk in Yufuin, you might as well sit there for a while and enjoy the special atmosphere that has existed since 1973.
