Kikko Shrine was built in 1884 on the site of the former residence of the Kikkawa family, the former feudal lord of Iwakuni, by integrating three shrines that enshrined the ancestors of the Kikkawa family.
The shrine building is said to have been built in 1728 as Jikyo Daimyojin, which enshrines Kikkawa Okitsune.
The main hall, worship hall, and shrine gate were all built at the same time, and were designated as tangible cultural properties of the prefecture in 1988.
On December 10, 2004, it was designated as an important cultural property of the country.
There are many sights to see near Kintai Bridge, so be sure to stop by.
