The Mactan Shrine, located on Mactan Island, just off the coast of Cebu City, is a must-see for everyone interested in Philippine history. It commemorates the Battle of Mactan that took place in 1521 between the Spanish and the Visayan (central Philippines) native people, along with paintings and plaques about that battle, it also contains two other important shrines - the Lapu Lapu Shrine and the Magellan Shrine. Although Magellan is now regarded by many Filipino historians as the "enemy" who was killed by Lapu Lapu, Magellan is still remembered as the person who brought Christianity to the Philippines (commemorated by Magellan's Cross Memorial in Cebu City) and as the commander of the fleet which achieved the first ever circumnavigation of the earth. #fallingseason #philippines #tourism #cebu

We went to Lapu-Lapu on Mactan Island, which was a recommended tourist spot! ️ It took about an hour by taxi from Cebu City. (It cost about 1,700 yen) The moment I got off the taxi after arriving at the site, I was approached by two older men who seemed to be locals. At first, I didn't know what they were talking about, so I tried to ignore them, but it seemed like they were Lapu-Lapu guides, so I went with them (or rather, they followed me without me having to say anything lol) They guided me through the history of the Lapu-Lapu statue and Magellan's tomb, so I enjoyed the place many times more than just looking at it normally✨✨ They also took photos in front of the statues and monuments, so there was no need to ask someone passing by. Cebu has a lot of stray dogs, and there was one here too, but the older man said that it might be carrying a disease, so it's okay to look and take photos, but not to touch it🙅‍♀️. There are mangroves in the sea that can be seen from this spot, and it is possible to go exploring for about an hour from a nearby dock. We didn't have time to go... Lapu-Lapu itself is not that big if you just want to look around, so you can take photos and walk around in about 15 minutes. We were with the same guy, so we listened to his explanations and showed him around, so we stayed for about an hour. There is a shopping mall called Mactan New Town about a 10-minute walk from here, so there are many cafes and restaurants✨ I found that it is even more enjoyable to visit any tourist spot after knowing what kind of place it is and what was there! The Lapu-Lapu Monument is a 20-meter bronze statue located in the Mactan Shrine park in Punta Engaño, Mactan Island, Cebu. The statue was erected to honor Rajah Lapu-Lapu, the native chieftain of Mactan Island who defeated Ferdinand Magellan during the historic Battle of Mactan in 1521. Had a nice few hours here lots of history about this place much better when the tide is in ,the place has had a revamp and much better than it used to be it was closed for one month now fully open ,also there is little stalls that sell hand made gifts also it's easy to get to from mactan and cebu Macdonalds fast foods and joly bee is very near #givethanks #givethanks

The first destination was the historical Lapu-Lapu Shrine, honouring the local chieftain who famously defeated Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan in 1521. This site symbolises Filipino resistance to foreign colonisation. Following this, visitors were treated to a performance at a local guitar workshop, showcasing the region's musical talent. Next, the trip continued to the Sirao Flower Garden, a picturesque area perfect for photography, surrounded by vibrant floral displays. Travelers also visited "TOPS," a viewpoint on a hill that offers panoramic views of the bustling city of Cebu. Another notable stop was the Temple of Leah, a grand structure built in memory of a wife's love, alongside the Taoist Temple, where guests could learn about and appreciate Taoist beliefs and traditions. As the day progressed, guests enjoyed a much-anticipated meal featuring lechon, a signature dish in Filipino cuisine, at House of Lechon, known for its warm hospitality. In the latter half of the trip, the group explored the Heritage of Cebu Monument, also called the Parian Monument. This impressive artwork captures significant events in Cebu's history, including the Battle of Mactan and the canonisation of Pedro Calungsod. It comprises various materials such as concrete, bronze, brass, and steel. Following this, the group visited the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House, one of the oldest houses in the Philippines, dating back to the late 17th century. This house reflects a blend of Chinese and Filipino architectural styles and now serves as a museum. The tour also included a stop at Magellan's Cross, located in the city centre, where visitors can find souvenirs. Lastly, the itinerary concluded with a visit to the Ten Thousand Roses, although the experience was less than ideal due to unfavourable weather. Mactan is a densely populated island located a few kilometers (~1 mile) east of Cebu Island in the Philippines. The island is part of Cebu province and it is divided into the city of Lapu-Lapu and the municipality of Cordova. The island is separated from Cebu by the Mactan Channel which is presently crossed by three bridges: the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the Mactan–Mandaue Bridge, and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

My friends and I decided to have my birthday dinner in this restaurant and the moment we enter the door we already received a warm welcome. Aside from a cozy place, the staffs are very accommodating. Food was superb with reasonable prices. Just want to thank all the staffs particularly Jimson, Migz, Rita and Ms. Irish who made my birthday extra special. You guys indeed deserves a 5 star. Both sides of Lapu-Lapu Monument are carved. Lapulapu and Ferdinand Magellan are engraved on the front and reverse respectively. This monument in the ruins is established for both leaders to memorize their contributions. This is no doubt an objective evaluation and reflection towards the history. Now here is a leisure park and people can have a rest.
