Villena’s Festivals: A Colorful Celebration 🎭✨
I visited Villena during its festivals, and it was an unforgettable experience! 🎊 The town comes alive with colorful parades featuring people dressed in traditional costumes, creating an incredible atmosphere. One of the highlights was the Museum of Regional Costumes 🏛️, which had a fantastic collection and was free to enter!
Walking through the Calle Mayor, I enjoyed the lively celebrations, music, and festive energy. 🎶💃 There are also great places to eat, and the locals are super friendly. If you're in Spain during the festival, Villena is a must-visit! 🇪🇸✨

One of Vienne's iconic locations
Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region)
The main square of Villena is where the Thursday market is held. Its historical arcades that covered almost the entire perimeter have now disappeared. Now there are various tapas bar stalls there, a great place to have a quiet drink and take a break from touring the city, the food and prices are good, recommended for enjoying tapas with friends or even family. Perfect for spending time with kids.

Vienna's main gateway to the outside world
Villena station was opened in 1858 with the opening of the MZA line between Alicante and Madrid. The building, like those of the entire Almansa-Alicante district, was designed by Agustín Elcoro Berecíbar, of which Villena is one of two secondary buildings. To this day, it has barely changed but has undergone some minor changes.
Since June 18, 2013, with the opening of the new Viennese high-speed station, the Alvia trains that originally stopped at the station have changed to stop at the new high-speed station. Because of this, the long-distance trains that now stop at this station only connect Villena with Murcia/Cartagena with Barcelona. There are also some medium-distance services with main destinations being cities such as Jaén, Ciudad Real, Albacete, Alicante, Valencia, Cartagena and Murcia.

The wonderful and modern Vienne History Museum
A beautifully laid out museum, it is the perfect place to delve into the history and cultural heritage of Villena, the facilities are modern and easy to get around, the exhibits are well organized and easy to understand, and all the artifacts have English explanations.
An amazing collection of gold was discovered nearby. Many historical artifacts from the earliest times to modern times.
The transfer of the collection to such a large building was a success and the building has been successfully restored, combining the needs of the collection and all visitors. This is a must if you visit this city.

Tall and stately, the three-story castle of Vienne rises proudly from the hill on which it sits, overlooking the region's capital.
Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region)
Also known as Pies Negros Castle (“Black Feet”) or simply Villena Castle, this is a fortified military building of Arab origin that was renovated and expanded in the 15th century. It has no moat and is built with a double wall. The outer walls are reinforced by twelve towers, while the inner walls are taller and contain an imposing keep located at the southeast end of the space.
The tower is square in plan and divided into four sections; the lower two floors are built of Almohad brick and stone, and the upper two floors are built of stone. The ground floor retains the traditional Almohad star-shaped ribbed vaulting, which makes it unique among Spanish military architecture. It has cantilevered turrets on the top and corners.

A monumental city
Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region)
Vienne is a monumental city and the capital of the region. The Castle of Atalaia forms the threshold of the walled city of Castile.
In fact, it wasn't until the second half of the 19th century that Vila Duca officially became part of the province of Alicante. The fortress sits on the Almohad vaults, from where we can enjoy a wide panoramic view of the village and its surroundings. The historic center of the city is formed around the castle. As we descended from the castle, we spotted two beautiful Gothic churches among the narrow streets and white houses that make up the historic quarter: the 15th-century Iglesia de Santiago and the 16th-century Iglesia de Santa María. In the building that houses the Town Hall we must visit the Municipal Archaeological Museum, where we can admire the beauty of precious metalwork from the Late Bronze Age that made us the famous Treasure of Vienne.
On the outskirts of the city, the Gothic sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Virtudes and the Las Salinas Natural Park offer the perfect setting for enjoying a beautiful natural environment.
