Owase City in Mie Prefecture is famous for the Kumano Kodo trail. However, in recent years, a hidden area called "Ohai" on the cliffs of Kuki Town has been gaining popularity. The word "Ohai" is pronounced "Ohai", and it is a corner of the columnar jointed ria coast facing the Kumano Nada Sea. These majestic stone walls appear particularly weathered after years of baptism. Climbing slowly along the steep mountain path, you can clearly appreciate the magnificent architectural style of these city walls, as if you are in a historical scene that has gone through vicissitudes of life. On the high ground in the center of the city wall, there are a large number of ancient temple buildings. The wooden structures of shrines and temples all present an extremely elegant Japanese classical temperament. Visitors walking along the quiet paths feel as if they have entered a peaceful and tranquil paradise. In addition to the buildings, the surrounding scenery of this city is also extremely beautiful. The refreshing mountain scenery and lush green forests make visitors feel as if they have traveled through time and space back to the solemn atmosphere of ancient times.

Light and quick check-in itinerary: Starting from your arrival at JR Kii-Katsuura Station, take a bus to the final stop - Nachi Mountain, check in at the waterfall, climb up the mountain, visit the Grand Shrine, and then walk from the bus terminal to another direction's parking lot (there are signs on site) to connect a short section of the Kumano Kodo, hike down the mountain, experience the pilgrimage route, and in about 1 hour you will reach Daimon-ban, continue walking forward and you will find a bus stop, then take a bus back to JR Kii-Katsuura. You can stay overnight or wait for a bus to your next destination, the whole journey takes about 4 hours. If you are staying overnight in the surrounding cities and do not want to change hotels, you can start your journey from JR Kii-Katsuura Station. If you plan to stay overnight in Kii-Katsuura, it is recommended to stay at the Urashima Hotel, where from the rooftop outdoor area of the mountain pavilion of the hotel, you can even gaze at the Nachi Falls (the last picture), and with a good camera, you can capture it, then plan to visit the eastern side of the town's sea ⛩️ - Benten Island (located at 2 o'clock direction from the map's JR Kii-Katsuura Station) and that's pretty much it~ All the eateries are around the JR station.

Occasionally, through the windows on the roadside, you can catch a glimpse of the waterscape of Taizitan in the courtyard. The surface of the lake reflects the silhouettes of the surrounding buildings, and the rippling waves make the whole scenery pleasing to the eye. If you are lucky enough to meet monks in simple attire meditating along the way, you will surely gain a deeper understanding of the Zen charm of this ancient temple. Being able to quietly enjoy the scenery in such an ancient Zen environment is the biggest reason why I make special trips to Dongchan Temple again and again. This unique visual aesthetic and physical and mental experience allowed me to find the perfect combination of tradition and modernity, nature and humanity in just a short moment. It is truly worth the price of the ticket.

Take bus No. 31 from Kii-Katsuura Station and get off at Daimon-zaka for about 25 minutes. There is a tourist center at Daimon-zaka where you can pick up a map. Beginner hikers should take a hiking bamboo from the hiking bamboo rack near the tourist area. This bamboo is very useful. Remember to return it to the hiking rack near the bus stop on the way back. If you start the Taiye Historic Trail from Damenzaka, you will find that the trail is shaded by large trees and has large stone steps. It is very labor-saving and safe to walk along it while holding a bamboo pole. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to walk slowly to the next stop, Nachi Taisha Shrine and the Three-Storied Pagoda, to enjoy the scenery of Nachi Mountain and the shrine. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Hiryu Shrine and Nachi Falls. You have to pay 300 yen to go inside and take a closer look at the Nachi no Yan.
