Historically people who had broken ancient Hawaiian laws could escape here to seek refuge from persecution. Their combined spirits and the power of the sea are meant to offer further protection. There is beautiful scenery, fascinating wooden carvings and a lot of nature. I sat on some rocks near the sea and within a few minutes many sea turtles had emerged, Scouring the shore for food. It was such a peaceful place, you can definitely feel the presence of the past there with you. I visited Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park located in the southern part of the Kona district on Hawaii Island. The park is easily accessible by car from the town of Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island. The blue sky and blue sea, along with the surrounding atmosphere, truly give off the Hawaiian vibe. It's a fun spot to explore even just for a walk.
