Spring has come to Kuonji Temple on Mount Minobu. The cherry trees planted here and there are in full bloom, creating a beautiful scene. It might be nice to stroll through the historic temple, colored in the pink of cherry blossoms, in the warm spring sunshine.

Kuonji Tem
Kuonji Temple on Mount Minobu is located on the banks of the Fuji River in Minobu Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. This temple, the head temple of the Nichiren sect, is a majestic temple located in a deep forest. As the head temple, it is a place visited by many people, but it is also valuable as a historical building and you can see a very Japanese landscape.

Spring Stroll at Fujikawa Craft Park
#aprilblooms
Fujikawa Craft Park is a huge and peaceful park in Yamanashi — I visited during cherry blossom season, and wow, it was just breathtaking. The park is super spacious, so even when there are lots of people, it still feels calm and relaxing. Perfect for a picnic, a walk, or just lying on the grass and watching the sakura petals fall.
The park also has some craft centers and fun areas for kids, which makes it great for families. But honestly, just being surrounded by nature and cherry blossoms was enough for me!
Why You Should Visit:
✔ Massive open space perfect for relaxing or picnicking.
✔ Beautiful cherry blossoms in spring with a peaceful vibe.
📍Address: Japan, 〒409-2522 Yamanashi, Minamikoma District, Minobu, Shimoyama, 1597番地

Oku Mino (奥美濃)
#aprilblooms
#Oku Mino
Oku Mino (奥美濃) generally refers to a mountainous area in Gifu Prefecture, Japan — specifically the northern part of Mino Province (hence the name “Oku” meaning “deep” or “inner” and “Mino” referring to the historical province). It’s famous for its beautiful nature, traditional culture, and heavy snowfall in winter. Here are some key points:
• Location: Northern Gifu Prefecture, near places like Gujo City (郡上市) and Takayama City (高山市).
• Nature: It’s rich in mountains, forests, and rivers — part of the greater Japanese Alps area. It’s a popular spot for hiking, fishing, and skiing.
• Winter Sports: Oku Mino is well-known for ski resorts and snow activities due to its deep snowfalls (especially in areas like Gujo).
• Culture: The region preserves traditional architecture (some villages have old thatched-roof houses), festivals, and local crafts.
• Gujo Odori Festival: One of Japan’s longest traditional dance festivals is nearby, and people from Oku Mino often participate.
• Cuisine: Mountain vegetables, freshwater fish like ayu (sweetfish), and local soba noodles are common dishes.

As April paints Japan in pink, Minobusan Kuon-ji—head temple of Nichiren Buddhism—transforms into a sublime fusion of ancient architecture and floral splendor.
Why Kuon-ji Stands Apart:

✓ Active monastery with immersive cultural experiences

This is my second trip to Japan. This time I deliberately avoided the bustling attractions and chose a niche B&B, a temple B&B hidden in the countryside. There are kind monks who take care of daily life, and take me and my friends around the countryside to introduce beautiful scenery and cultural customs.
If you yearn for a journey away from the hustle and bustle and return to your heart, Takeibou is an excellent choice. It is located in the famous holy place of Minobuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. It is a temple with a long history and a quiet B&B open to travelers. After arriving at Minobu station by subway, take a taxi directly to Takeibou in about 10 minutes. The location is just between Tokyo and Kyoto, which is a very good transition link and worth a special trip.
Unlike the hustle and bustle of popular attractions, Takeibou is located in a quiet and beautiful place, surrounded by mountains, with fresh air and unique scenery in each season. The most special thing here is that you can really immerse yourself in the traditional temple life - at 5 o'clock every morning, the monks will ring the bell to wake up the guests, and go to the main hall of the temple to participate in the solemn chanting ceremony. After listening to the chanting, the sky is just getting light, and the temple scenery in the morning is very quiet. At that moment, it seems that time has slowed down and the nerves are relaxed.
The room is in traditional Japanese tatami style, simple and plain but clean and comfortable. There is a public bathroom in the temple. Take a hot bath and let the fatigue of the journey quietly dissipate in the water vapor. If you want, you can also choose to pay extra to enjoy the traditional vegetarian cuisine carefully prepared by the temple. It is light but full of Zen, and it is a real "body and mind clean" experience.
Takeifang is not only a stay, but more like a short stop for the soul. Here, you can walk slowly, breathe slowly, and slowly feel the original appearance of life. Whether traveling alone or with friends who are close to your heart, this temple homestay will bring a sense of tranquility and touching.

Minobu Sakura Sanctuary
#cherryblossom2024
One of the most important mountain temples
A trip to Mount Minobu with its clean air and stunning views will help to cleanse the soul and refresh the senses. In 1274, Minobusan Kuon-ji, the main temple of the Nichiren Buddhist school, was built here. This branch of Mahayana Buddhism is named after its creator, Monk Nithiren (1222-1282). Many pilgrims come to the temple.

Admire the ceiling of the main temple building, decorated with a magnificent image of a five-fingered Japanese dragon
To visit the Oeshiki Festival, which is held on the second weekend of October in memory of Nichiren's death
How to get there
Mount Minoba is easily accessible by train from Shizuoka and Shinjuku.
Take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen line to Shizuoka Station, then transfer to the JR Tokaido Main line to Fuji Station, and from there take the JR Minobu Line north to Minobu Station.
From Shinjuku Station, you can take the express train to Kofu Station, transfer to the Minobu line there and get off at JR Minobu Station about three hours later.
Minobusan Kuonji can be reached from the station by taxi or bus.
The Path to Enlightenment
One of the most impressive sights of Mount Minobu is bodai-tei, the stone staircase to enlightenment. It consists of 287 steps, and to climb it without stopping, you need to be in good shape. Even if you do not gain enlightenment, the reward will be an impressive view of the five-tiered Minobusan Kuonji Pagoda.
Cherry blossoms and spectacular procession
About one and a half million people visit Mount Minobu every year. Most people come here in mid-April to admire the flowering of the four-hundred-year-old weeping sakura in front of the main temple building.
Views from the top
If you are lucky with the weather, you will see behind the mountain range the majestic Mount Fuji and the river of the same name, carrying waters to the Pacific Ocean. At the top there is a spacious place to relax and an observation deck.
Sights and beauty
There are many smaller temples on the way to the top. They are also worth visiting. The first one is known as Pomegranate. He was so nicknamed for the small wooden tablets with prayers for the gift of healthy children — pomegranate in Japan is considered a symbol of fertility. In spring, the path goes under the shade of cherry blossoms, and in early summer, hydrangea covers the surroundings of the temple with a bright blue carpet.
Meetings on the way
If you are lucky, you can meet real pilgrims in white clothes on the way. On the way to the mountain and back, they chant the mantra "Nam-meho-renge-ke" — a prayer for enlightenment.

A traditional Japanese house for rent with a large bath and plenty of nature🍵✴︎
I went to the old folk house guesthouse Rufu Shonoie☺︎
You can rent out the whole big house!
We stayed there as a couple, but it was too big for two people!
The purpose of this stay was to enjoy the big cypress bath and the fact that you can enjoy a bonfire both indoors and outdoors was one of the attractions👌🏻✴︎🫧
The cypress bath has a shower on the side, and there is a Bluetooth speaker so you can enjoy bath time while listening to your favorite music🤍
Because it is a Shonoie, I also enjoyed calligraphy very much!!
The shop seems to be famous, so I was able to make my favorite blend!
The bonfire really healed my heart and made me feel happy!
There were really no street lights around, and when I looked up, I was moved to see so many stars!
I also met wild deer!! !!! !!! !!!
On the first floor, we had traditional cuisine for dinner around the hearth!! !!!
The breakfast was also delicious!! !!!
It was a trip filled with nature, quiet, starry skies, bonfires, and hot springs.
It was an incredibly relaxing trip!!!
I think it's an inn that will leave you feeling calm!
I hope you'll go☺️✴︎
