Tanghe Ancient Town has a long history, with human settlements dating back two thousand years. Starting from the construction of the Wangye Temple in the Ming Dynasty, houses were gradually built, forming a town. By the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, it had become prosperous, named after the Tang River that flows through it. As a crucial transportation hub and goods distribution center for Chongqing, Sichuan, and Guizhou, Tanghe Ancient Town thrived due to water transport, creating a bustling scene of continuous boats and merchants during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, embodying a rich and splendid historical civilization. From the Wangye Temple built in the Ming Dynasty by the river to the Qingyuan Palace built in the 13th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty at the highest point of Tanghe, the town features layered houses, horsehead walls, rolled eaves, bracket sets, intricate structures, and exquisite craftsmanship. There are also Western-style buildings that ingeniously blend Chinese and Western architectural techniques.
