Suzhou Shihu fishing village, fresh and elegant Suzhou-style houses
Shihu Lake is 4.5 kilometers long from north to south and 2 kilometers wide from east to west, with a water area of 2.56 million square meters. It is dominated by Wu Yue relics and Jiangnan water town idyllic scenery. It is divided into four scenic spots: Shihu, Shangfang Mountain, Wu Mountain and Qizi Mountain. Among them, Shihu and Shangfang Mountain are the essence of Shihu Scenic Area, with their interdependent mountains and waters and rich cultural heritage.
Xinguo Old Street and Fisherman’s Water Village together form Shihu Fisherman’s Village. The former is the first phase of the project, and the latter is the second phase. I heard that the third and fourth phases will be built in the future.
The houses in the fishing village are obviously newly built at first glance, and the flowers, plants and trees are also newly planted. The seedlings in the garden are large in size, with a large number of stakes and clumping large trees used. The landscape effect is good, and the cost must have been high.
Before the demolition, this was an old fishing village. The new buildings are all Su-style houses with independent entrances and courtyards. They are simple and beautiful, with a strong farmhouse flavor. The stones are all cut into whole pieces and then assembled, and there are very few scraps. Both the engineering design and the construction level reflect the high level of Suzhou garden art.
In front of a certain building, we found several security guards standing at the door. I wondered what kind of unit it was that needed so many people guarding it. Later I learned that this was the famous fishing village in Shihu. It is said to be the former site of Shihu villa of Fan Chengda, a writer of Southern Song Dynasty. The famous calligrapher Yu Jue bought it at a large sum of money when he was nearly 70 years old and named it "Yu Zhuang". Yu Jue passed away in 1951. In 1965, Suzhou Garden Management Office purchased it for 3,000 yuan and restored it, renamed it Fishing Village, and it was once used as a place for Suzhou City to receive foreign guests. I heard that there is a different world inside the fishing village, but even we, who listen to "old donkeys", can actually miss it.
In the Shihu waters in front of the fishing village, Tianjing Pavilion stands silently, like a hidden floating ancient city hidden in the clear blue water. Tianjing Pavilion was first built in 1612. It was originally a building in Fan Chengda's Shihu Villa, but later disappeared in the long river of history. In the 22nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1757), Governor Yin Jishen built the "Lake Center Pavilion" on the lake. In the first year of the Jiaqing reign (1796), the prefect Ren Zhaojiong rebuilt the "Lake Center Pavilion" on the lake and named it Tianjing Pavilion.
In 1993, with reference to the "Map of Prosperity and Growth", Tianjing Pavilion was rebuilt on the island in the middle of the lake. Its shape is like a boat, and with the reflection of the surrounding lake water, it seems as if a ship is sailing in the mist.
