Round trip from Shanghai to Suzhou by high-speed train in just 30 minutes! 𝗧𝗶𝗽 𝟭 : Buy your train tickets in advance. We bought them through Trip.com. Before booking, check the departure station carefully. Shanghai has many train stations. Choose the one closest to your accommodation. We boarded at Shanghai Railway Station. The train was very punctual. 🚇 8:25 - 09:02 Shanghai - Suzhou 🚇 20:15 - 20:40 Suzhou - Shanghai Suzhou (苏州) is nicknamed "Venice of the East" is only 30 minutes from Shanghai by high-speed rail (高铁). If you are traveling to Shanghai and want to experience another vibe of China, I recommend trying a one-day trip to Suzhou. It is very convenient. We use DiDi to travel between different places. The plan will be a bit chill and relaxing. 1. Tiger Hill (Tiger Hill - Huqiu) Start the day by going to "Huqiu" or Tiger Hill, one of the important places in Suzhou. There is a leaning pagoda, which is nicknamed the "Leaning Tower of China". We went when the leaves were changing colors. It was so beautiful!!! It was a great place to relax and take pictures. 🕒 Recommended travel time: 1.5 hours 🥒 Place to eat: We had breakfast at a restaurant in front of Tiger Hill. We walked in randomly. The taste was okay, but what I really liked was the cucumber. It was so delicious!!! It was a bit salty and had a slight sourness from the sauce. It didn't smell green at all. I usually don't like eating cucumber. But this dish is for those who don't like cucumbers. As for the Xiao Long Bao, I don't recommend it. 555 2. 寒山寺 (Hanshan Temple) Next up is Hanshan Temple, an ancient temple over 1,500 years old. This temple is famous for its large bell that rings on New Year's Day according to a famous Chinese poem. The atmosphere is quiet and suitable for walking around and praying. In front of the temple, there are amulets and souvenirs for sale. 🕒 Recommended time to visit: 1 hour 🍲 Place to eat: Note that there isn't much to eat around here. We walked a little past the temple and randomly entered a place with a lot of people. 5555 And there were only locals in the shop. 🤣 The noodles tasted normal, but the hot tofu eaten with rice on a cold day is great!! This shop is very cheap and they give a lot. 3. 平江路 (Pingjiang Road) Let's continue walking around Pingjiang Ancient Street. Around here, there are tea shops, cafes, Suzhou-style food, and souvenir shops. Famous food includes Suzhou mooncakes (苏式月饼) and clear soup noodles (阳春面). Tiger Hill pagoda is especially eye-catching in the area as the structure looks similar to the Pisa Tower in Italy. In fact, the pagoda that leaning on the hill is much more taller than Pisa Tower and in different season, there will different artistic flowers blossom every where making it an instagrammable place for everyone to take picture with. Personally, I would recommend to spend at least 1-2 hours to stroll around. History of Tiger Hill: It is said that three days after King He Lu died in 496BC a white tiger appeared on the hill to guard the dead king’s body. Another reason for the name comes from the mountain resembling a crouching tiger. Tiger Hill originally called the “Hill Emerging from the Sea” has an elevation of over 30m and covers roughly 3.5acres. Tiger Hill is truly an enduring symbol of ancient Suzhou and has What can you see at Tiger Hill: Tiger Hill Pagoda/Yunyan Pagoda: Known as the leaning tower this imposing 47m pagoda is indeed a site to behold. The top and the bottom of the tower today now vary by 2.32 metres. Construction on the pagoda was completed in 961 during the Song Dynasty. After climbing to the top of Tiger Hill it is indeed an amazing site to behold. Wangjing Villa: A beautiful bonsai tree garden with some 500 high-end bonsai trees, many of which were awarded prizes in prestigious bonsai competitions. LuYu Well: Lu Yu wrote the first book on tea entitled “The Treatise of Tea”. The famous author lived on Tiger Hill and dug a well and declared the water the third best in China. As a result of his efforts tea growing and consumption became an important part of peoples life’s in Suzhou. Sword Pool: Legend says that some 3000 swords were buried beneath the rectangular pond and that King He Lu himself is said to be buried next to the lake wall. These are only a few of the many things you can do at Tiger Hill! My personal favourite however was at the entrance of the Hill there was a small shop renting Chinese traditional clothing which you could were around the hill. I did so with sheer delight! Getting There - Take bus 32/146 or line 3 to Huqiu Beimen Station There are many attractions in Tiger Hill, depending on what you want to explore. 🛕The famous Tiger Hill Pagoda - standing on the hill’s summit. This is the oldest pagoda in the vicinity of Suzhou. It’s considered as China’s Leaning tower as the tower stands slantedly. This tower has been a symbol of Suzhou for years. We enjoyed walkinf around this area, admiring the Chinese garden landscape. There is a bonsai collection at Wanjing Villa too. There’s a famous Sword Testing Stone with its interesting story surrounding King He Lu. It’s believed that there are many swords burried beneath the Sword Pond.

With its beautiful scenery and long history, Tiger Hill is commonly referred to as the "No.1" attraction of the Wuzhong district. Tiger Hill is renowned for its pagoda and its Sword Pond. The pagoda is known as the "Leaning Tower of Pisa" of the east, and the four Chinese characters by the sword pool are said to have been written by calligrapher Yan Zhenqing. In recent years, flower and temple fairs have been held at Tiger Hill.

The Huqiu Mountain Scenic Area has a long history of more than 2,500 years. It is known as the “first mountain in Wuzhong”. The poet Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty once wrote the famous saying “When you don’t visit Huqiu Mountain in Suzhou, it’s a pity!” Tiger Hill, in Suzhou, is not only a scenic spot, but also a cultural landmark of the city. Tiger Hill is not very high, so it is not particularly tiring to go up. Denghuqiu mountain is not high. It is sometimes lively, sometimes quiet, with lush branches that are accompanied by the sound of flowing water.  There are a lot of previous historical stories about the place, and you can ask any of the guides to tell you about them. There is a small square on the top of Huqiu, and there is a Tiger Hill Tower in the middle. It is the first leaning tower in China and the symbol of Suzhou. I didn't know it was oblique at the time. I wanted my picture to look symmetrical, but I found that it was not possible. Later, I realized that the tower was a little tilted.
