With great anticipation, we arrived at the Taj Mahal from our hotel in Agra. Staying nearby had its perks; we could visit early in the morning, avoiding long ticket lines and capturing photos with fewer people in the background. Kudos to the travel agency for this thoughtful arrangement! The most iconic view of the Taj Mahal is from the Moonlight Garden's reflecting pool. The white marble domes and four minarets of the Indo-Islamic architecture are breathtakingly majestic. It is said that the construction cost 32 million rupees, using white marble, sapphires, carnelian, and pearls. Foreigners need to pay 1300 rupees (about 500 TWD) to enter the grounds and the mausoleum. Online tickets are 50 rupees cheaper and save you the hassle of queuing for tickets on-site. Besides the main structure, there are red sandstone buildings on either side, including a mosque and a guest house, both typical of Mughal architecture. There's also the Taj Museum at the front, which you can visit for free with your ticket, and it takes less than half an hour to tour. The story behind the Taj Mahal is equally romantic. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It symbolizes love and romance, as well as India's culture and religion, making it a significant historical site where Islamic and Indian cultures converge.

The highlight of our trip to India is finally here - the Taj Mahal! To make it convenient for an early visit the next day, our tour group arranged for us to stay at the nearby chain hotel, Grand Mercure, which is just a ten-minute drive away. Grand Mercure Agra features modern decor. Having stayed at the Grand Mercure in Odori Park, Sapporo, I found the design to be simple, bright, and stylish, quite different from the Indian-style hotels we stayed at earlier. It felt familiar and comfortable, though the downside was the weak Wi-Fi. The standard twin room we stayed in was 35 square meters, with modern standard decor. However, the carpet had a very Indian feel, being vibrant and flashy. It might be the off-season, as there was a significant discount. The regular price is nearly 6,000 TWD, but now it's on special for just 1,500 TWD, including breakfast! The hotel is very close to the Taj Mahal, and you can even see the Arabic-style dome of the Taj Mahal from the rooftop. With facilities like an outdoor pool, gym, and game room, it's a great value-for-money hotel.

The Mumtaz Mahal (Hindustani: ممتاز محل, मुमताज़ महल, literally Jewel Palace) is located in the Red Fort, Delhi. The Mumtaz Mahal is one of the six main palaces that were situated facing the Yamuna River. Getting There - Taj Mahal is located in Agra, recommend getting there from Delhi. I went there with a local tour guide. Highlight - The key highlight of course is admiring the mausoleum itself, as the white marble shines under the sunlight. Another key thing to see will be the extremely exquisite inlay and craftsmanship using colourful gems and stones on the building. Listening to the stories from the tour guide about Shah Jahan and how the mausoleum was built makes it even more fascinating. Food - Don't leave before trying some local Indian mouthwatering food of course. Shopping - There are many workshops in the entire Agra selling marble crafts with exquisite inlays. Nowadays, it has been recognized as the UNESCO site and considered as the greatest architectural building in India making it a place full of tourists from overseas.
