[2025 Chongqing ] Travel Guide for Xuantianhu (Updated May)

During my weekends, I always look up things to do in Chongqing and the Bitong Line was finally opened at the beginning of this year, providing a new idea for people who don’t drive but want to go out for fun. Today I’ll share a guide for a one-day city walk to Tongliang on the Bitong Line. Route planning: Tongliang West Station - Jidu Temple - (Yuanxiang Central Park/Xuantian Lake) - Tongliang Museum - Bachuan Catholic Church - Pedestrian Street - Wu Temple - Shaoyun Memorial Hall - Mingyue Temple - Tongliang People's Park - Longcheng Tianjie Station Attractions Jidu Temple: As soon as you exit the Tongliang West Station, you can see the pagoda with a very Southeast Asian style. Climb up the mountain and you can overlook the panoramic view of Tongliang city. Xuantian Lake: It is a great place to ride a bicycle. Almost everyone who goes there has a bicycle. There are many places to rent bicycles at the entrance for 10 yuan per bicycle with no time limit and no deposit is required. Yuanxiang Central Park: A large urban park. If you think Xuantian Lake is too far away, you can choose to come here. Catholic Church/Pedestrian Street/Martial Temple: European-style churches and ancient temples from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the old city. Lunch can be had near the pedestrian street. Tongliang Museum: One of the best county-level museums in Chongqing, where you can see the Ming Dynasty pottery figurines known as the "Little Terracotta Warriors". (Note that the museum is closed at noon, so you can go there for lunch and then go back in the afternoon.) Shaoyun Memorial Hall: Historical Education Base Tongliang People's Park: Located in the new urban area, it seems like a quiet oasis. The rippling lake in the park is like a mirror, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds, making people feel relaxed and happy. The weeping willows by the lake gently brush the water, as if adding a touch of vitality to this tranquil beauty. Useful Information 🚇Subway: Round trip subway fare: about 35 yuan (the fare is not accurate: the exit fare of the Bitong Line is displayed in the corner and is not clear, and the return trip exit fare of Line 1 is only displayed as more than 7 yuan) 🚊Line 1 and Bitong Line have transfers within the station. More than 85% of the passengers on the Bitong Line on the outbound journey are elderly people. It is not easy to get a seat and the whole carriage is quite noisy. 🍕Food: There are many snack vendors in the old pedestrian street. There are more sugar-coated fruits and Chongchong cakes than in Bishan, which is quite sentimental. There was also hot and sour noodles in the alley, which smelled good, but it was full and I didn't want to wait. I bought a portion of crispy cookies instead, which come in 4 flavors, and I recommend the sweet ones. In addition, you can also try "Bishan Rabbit" and "Laifeng Fish" and other delicacies in Bishan on the way back.

You can stroll along the bluestone road, visit ancient buildings such as the Tianhou Palace and Huguang Guild Hall, and enjoy folk performances such as the Water Dragon Dance and Dragon Dance. Tongliang Museum: Tongliang Museum integrates collection, display, education, and research. It has a large number of cultural relics related to Tongliang dragon culture, as well as displays of the historical changes and folk customs of the Tongliang area. It is an important window for understanding the history and culture of Tongliang. Xuantian Lake: Xuantian Lake is a clear lake surrounded by green mountains. It is an ecological, leisure, and sightseeing lake. You can enjoy the natural scenery by walking or cycling along the lakeside trail. It is also an important venue for dragon dance performances, and watching the performance amidst the beautiful scenery is a unique experience. Food recommendations Tongliang chicken: Made with local free-range chicken and cooked using a special method, the meat is firm and tender with a great taste. Transportation: Chongqing → Tongliang: Chongqing North Station South Square Bus Station (formerly Longtousi Bus Station) to Tongliang Bus North Station or Tongliang Bus South Station in about 1 hour, CNY 25. Down the mountain → Route 1: Tongliang → Tiandeng Stone (Bayue Mountain): Take bus 106/108 (CNY 2) from Tongliang Bus South Station to Beimen Station, then take bus 601 to Bayue Mountain Station in about 1 hour, CNY 3 with Jiaoyuntong. Climbing → Route 2: Tongliang → Qicai Dream Garden (Bayue Mountain Entrance): Take bus 602 from Tongliang Bus South Station to Qicai Dream Garden Station in about 1 hour, CNY 2. Specific attractions: ① Tiandeng Stone: The entrance to Tiandeng Stone is opposite Bayue Mountain Bus Station, tickets are CNY 3/person, walk to the top to see a huge stone, you can climb to the top of the stone platform through the iron chain, overlooking Tongliang City. If you don't climb this, you will lose money, do what you can. ② Bayue Mountain: Exit Tiandeng Stone Scenic Area, continue along the road for about 100 meters to the downhill sign, follow the trail all the way down the mountain to the hexagonal pavilion to rest, you can enjoy Tongliang City from a high place, continue down to the mountainside will pass through Sanfeng Cave, Bailu Cave, Jade Rabbit Stone, Chessboard Stone, continue down the branch road there is a viewing platform, you can see goats and Xuantian Lake, and finally to the entrance of the climbing trail. If you climb the mountain, you can take bus 602 from Qicai Dream Garden to the climbing entrance, and then take bus 601 down the mountain to the top of the mountain.③ Qicai Dream Garden: From the climbing trail all the way down to the climbing entrance, walk along the dirt road to the fork in the road shown on the map to the left (right is Xuantian Lake, currently still under construction of the high-speed rail part of the closure) to the gate of Qicai Dream Garden (tickets CNY 48/person), there is a copper beam characteristic iron flower on holidays, here you can take bus 602 to Niuwang Village Station down 500 meters to the north entrance of Xuantian Lake or return to the bus south station. ④ Xuantian Lake: There is a row of bicycle rental shops next to the north entrance of Xuantian Lake (rental CNY 10/day, this price is really explosive), you can ride into the ring road after renting a car, there are many stalls selling various snacks near the north entrance and east entrance. Xuantian Lake is located at the foot of Bayue Mountain in the southern suburbs of Tongliang City, Chongqing, about 3.5 kilometers long and about 0.8 kilometers wide, with a total lake area of 6 square kilometers. Xuantian Lake has mountains, water, and beautiful scenery. It is very suitable for family outings to watch reeds and smell the autumn fragrance. Cycling around the lake, walking, taking pictures, bring some convenient food, find a dense tree, you can rest and eat on the picnic mat on the lawn. Bayue Mountain surrounding Xuantian Lake consists of thirty-five peaks standing on the top of the mountain. It takes about 1 hour to cycle around the lake, and it takes 2 hours to walk. The road around the lake is very wide, with car lanes and pedestrian lanes.
