Expanded in the Song Dynasty, and completed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Qing 'Yunyang County Chronicles' says: 'Rock City is the pillar of Kui Gate, the guarantee of Dongchuan'. The Rock City has cliffs on all sides, with a vertical height of 30-50 meters, and its top is flat, with a total area of about 3.5 hectares. There are only two village gates before and after. There are many historical stories: The most exciting story happened in the Southern Song Dynasty, when Sichuan commander Yu Jie's deputy Lu Shikui, obeyed the order to lead troops to resist the Yuan and held on for many years here. During the Yuan Dynasty, Tanhua Temple was built on the village. In the Ming Dynasty, Tan Yi, the Marquis of Xianghua, occupied this city and resisted Zhang Xianzhong's entry into Sichuan.

In Yunyang, Zhang Fei is revered as King Zhang Bodhisattva and has always been worshipped by people. When the Shu Han regime lost Guan Yu and Jingzhou fell, on the eve of Liu Bei's revenge in the Battle of Yiling, Zhang Fei, who was stationed in Langzhong, was assassinated and killed. Fan Jiang Zhang Da, who killed Zhang Fei, threw Zhang Fei's head into the Yunyang River when he went east to join Sun Wu. The end of a generation of heroes was so sad that it was really heartbreaking. And the local people in Yunyang, because of their admiration for Zhang Fei, built temples and shrines for him. For more than 1,700 years, praying to King Zhang Bodhisattva has become an inseparable part of Yunyang's folk customs.
