#easytravelpost hidden cliff mossy hollow called the Prison. I drove the single-track road from Uig (parking at the Quiraing layby, 2 GBP honesty box, no card), started at 6:30 am before the tour buses. The loop is 6.5 km, +350 m, 2 h 30 m, but the mossy bit is off-path: drop left below the Table into the wet hollow where hypnum moss coats every basalt block and a burn trickles underground. Bus 57 Portree–Uig stops at the Quiraing junction (5 GBP, contactless). No facilities up there—Portree has ATMs, Uig has a café (card ok). I wore waterproof trail shoes; the moss hollow is thigh-deep squelch in places, gaiters advised. Wind on the ridge is 60 km/h gusts; the view to Fladda and the Outer Isles is why you come. Mistake: I tried the loop clockwise—wrong, the east descent is scree hell. Go anticlockwise, finish at the Table for sunset. Should the Quiraing stay a free single-track wonder, or does a 10 GBP parking machine protect the moss from the Instagram crowd?

#easytravelpost The Old Man is a 50 m basalt pinnacle above Loch Leathan, 5.5 km return, 2–3 hrs, car park on the A855 (£5 up to 6 hrs, 140 spaces, 8am–8pm, fills by 08:30 in summer). I stayed in Portree, drove north at 06:50 in May, started climbing at 07:20, beat the coaches. The cliff moss is the path's upper section: Polytrichum and Hylocomium on the boulder shade, Racomitrium on the exposed basalt where the path steepens, and the cliff behind the Old Man has Fissidens in the crack seep—the moss glows when the cloud wraps the pinnacle. I sat 100 m below the rock at 08:00, the Storr ridge above lost in mist, the moss dripping though it hadn't rained since yesterday (Skye humidity). The 2023-rebuilt stone path is good to the viewpoint; beyond it, it's loose gabbro. Mistake: I arrived at 11:00 in July and parked 400 m down the A855 on the verge—warden £60 ticket; before 08:00 or after 17:00. Another: I trusted "easy 45 min" and wore loafers; the upper path is scree, boots needed. Would you climb to the Old Man for the pinnacle-moss light at 07:00, or photograph it from the A855 layby and push to the Quiraing?

The UK is not large, but there are many places to explore. The bustling London, the ancient Edinburgh, the tranquil Lake District, the vast Highlands—each city has a completely different vibe, but every one is worth a dedicated visit. This article organizes the highlights of the UK by region 👇 · — 🏙️ London Big Ben & Westminster Palace: The iconic symbols of the UK, the Gothic clock tower and the Houses of Parliament are classic London scenes. Buckingham Palace: Partially open for visits in summer. The Changing of the Guard ceremony is a must-see. Tower Bridge: A Victorian landmark spanning the Thames River, the bridge can be raised to allow large ships to pass. Tower of London: A millennium-old fortress on the Thames, home to the Crown Jewels. The British Museum: One of the largest museums in the world, with 8 million artifacts spanning the entire history of human civilization. Westminster Abbey: The coronation and burial site of British monarchs, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The London Eye: A 135-meter-high Ferris wheel offering panoramic views of London. Take a ride at sunset to see the city unfold beneath you. The National Gallery: An art palace located at Trafalgar Square. · — 🎓 Oxford & Cambridge | A day trip to academic halls University of Oxford: The oldest university in the English-speaking world. Christ Church College was the filming location for Hogwarts' Great Hall in Harry Potter. University of Cambridge: King's College Chapel is a pinnacle of Gothic architecture; punting on the River Cam is a must-do experience in Cambridge. · — 🏰 Edinburgh | The soul city of Scotland Edinburgh Castle: A millennium-old fortress standing on a dormant volcanic rock, overlooking the entire city. Royal Mile: An ancient street connecting the castle and Holyrood Palace, lined with centuries-old buildings. Calton Hill & Arthur's Seat: Two vantage points overlooking the city. Calton Hill features an unfinished Greek-style monument, and Arthur's Seat is a dormant volcano—climbing to the top for sunset is stunning. · — 🏛️ York & Bath | Medieval cities and Roman baths York: York Minster is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the UK; The Shambles was the filming location for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter; York city walls are Roman ruins with a thousand-year history. Bath: The Roman Baths are the UK's only hot spring site; the entire city is famous for its honey-colored Georgian architecture. · — 🌿 Lake District & Cotswolds | The UK's most beautiful countryside Lake District National Park: Rated by National Geographic as "a place to visit once in a lifetime." Cotswolds: The postcard of the English countryside. Bourton-on-the-Water is called the "Venice of England"; the whole area is filled with honey-colored stone cottages and rolling hills, perfect for wallpaper-worthy photos. · — 🏔️ Scottish Highlands & Isle of Skye | The UK's last wilderness Scottish Highlands: Glencoe Valley was a filming location for Braveheart; besides the Loch Ness monster legend, the ruins of Urquhart Castle on the shore are also worth a visit. Isle of Skye: Rated by National Geographic as one of the "world's top travel destinations." The Old Man of Storr is the island's most iconic landmark; the continuous mountains, basalt coastlines, and green valleys create a sense of solitude at the "end of the world." · — 🗿 Stonehenge | Prehistoric mystery Located on the Salisbury Plain in southern England, it is a Neolithic stone circle. Each stone weighs several tons, and how they were transported and erected remains an unsolved mystery. · — The beauty of the UK lies in London's bustle, Edinburgh's antiquity, the Lake District's tranquility, and the Highlands' vastness. Every city has its own character, and every corner is worth your pause. Tell me in the comments, which place do you most want to visit?👇

#easytravelpost The Quiraing is a landslip on Meall na Suiramach's east face, 7.5 km loop, 3–4 hrs, car park on the Uig–Staffin road (£3–5, 30 spaces, fills by 09:00). I drove Portree→Uig→Quiraing at 06:45 in September, parked at 07:30, had the ridge to myself for an hour. The cliff moss is the "Table" grassland: Racomitrium and Pleurozium in the sheep-grazed turf between the pinnacles, Sphagnum in the bog hollows of the "Prison" amphitheatre, and the cliff face of the "Needle" has Fissidens on the seep where rain runs off the gabbro. I walked the loop clockwise, the moss silver with dew at 08:00, the Sound of Raasay flat behind the grass tables, a golden eagle off the cliff. The path narrows to 30 cm with a 200 m drop on the east side—not for vertigophobes. Mistake: I did the loop counterclockwise in cloud once and lost the cairns for 10 min—clockwise from the car park, the cliff on your right. Another: I wore a softshell in a September gale and the wind lifted me sideways; shell + hat. Would you hike the Quiraing loop for the tableland moss and pinnacle light at 07:00, or just walk to the viewpoint above the car park and save knees for the Storr?

📅 Itinerary Day1:Edinburgh exploration Explore Edinburgh Castle, walk the Royal Mile, and enjoy the Harry Potter vibes at Victoria Street. End your day at Calton Hill for a stunning sunset. Day2: Edinburgh to Glenfinnan via Falkirk Drive out of the city towards the Highlands, stopping at the Falkirk Wheel, then continue to the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct. Try to time your visit with the train crossing—it’s a highlight and feels straight out of a movie. If you want to ride the Harry Potter train (Jacobite steam train), book tickets well in advance · Check the exact time when the train crosses the viaduct to either watch or plan your journey properly Day3: Glenfinnan to Eilean Donan Castle Head deeper into the Highlands towards Eilean Donan Castle. The journey itself becomes the main experience, with vast landscapes and almost no human presence. The castle appears dramatically between lochs and mountains, looking almost unreal. Day 4: Isle of Skye exploration Explore the breathtaking Isle of Skye, including the Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, and Fairy Pools. This is where Scotland feels truly wild and untouched, with dramatic scenery in every direction. Day 5 : Skye to Glasgow to London Drive towards Glasgow to return your motorhome. If possible, take the scenic route through Glencoe, one of the most hauntingly beautiful and atmospheric places in Scotland. 🏨 Accommodation : If you are travelling by motorhome, it’s highly recommended to book accommodation or designated motorhome parks in advance. While Scotland is motorhome-friendly, having a planned place to park overnight makes the journey much smoother and stress-free. · Motorhome parks and campsites are widely available across Scotland · Provide safe and legal parking spaces · Often include facilities like electricity, water, and waste disposal · Booking in advance avoids last-minute hassle, especially in popular areas like Skye. 🍴 Food Recommendations : AS AN ASIAN , Food in Scotland , especially on this route—is a mix of pleasant surprises and mild disappointments (depending on your spice tolerance 😄). Cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow have great variety, but once you head into the Highlands and places like the Isle of Skye, options become limited and much less spicy. · Cities = diverse food options · Highlands = mostly pubs, cafés, simple menus · Spice levels drop dramatically outside cities · Planning food becomes part of the trip 📌 Tips :as an Asian, you’ll quickly realise: The Highlands are stunning… but they are not emotionally prepared for your spice level, Go to Tesco or Sainsbury’s (Edinburgh)and prepare like you’re heading into the wild. Fuel availability in Scotland is good in cities, but once you hit the Highlands or Skye, stations are sparse. · Always refill when your tank is half full, even if you think you have enough. · Plan fuel stops in advance using maps or GPS. For the best experience in Scotland, rent a car or motorhome . #travel
