From a high altitude overlooking the Chengdu Plain, you can see a mountain range about 60 kilometers southwest of Chengdu, running in a southwest direction. This is Changqiu Mountain, stretching over a hundred kilometers and gradually rising to connect with the Daxiang Ridge of the Min Mountains. On clear days, the Changqiu ridge offers a clear view of the King of Shu Mountains—the main peak of Gongga at 7,509 meters above sea level—and several satellite peaks over 6,000 meters. Because it is very close to downtown Chengdu, Changqiu Mountain is also one of the most cost-effective spots to view Gongga. (Sunlit Gongga Golden Mountain, see photo 18) At the foot of Changqiu Mountain flows the Pujiang River, named after the abundant cattail reeds (used for mat grass) along its banks. Pujiang County was originally part of the Shu Kingdom. After Qin conquered Shu, it belonged to Linqiong County. In the first year of Emperor Gong of Western Wei (554 AD), Guangding County was established under Puyuan Commandery, marking the beginning of Pujiang County. In the first year of Ren Shou in the Sui Dynasty (601 AD), to avoid the taboo of Crown Prince Yang Guang’s name, Guangding was renamed Pujiang. During the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Qiongzhou, and it remained so in the Song Dynasty. Pujiang was an important node in the Tea Horse Road trade, and the tea-producing Pujiang River Valley became a key passage on this ancient route. Therefore, Changqiu Mountain is densely dotted with stone grotto statues, including nationally protected sites such as Feixiange, Longtuowan, and Anziyan cliff carvings, as well as many provincial, municipal, and county-level protected cultural relics. On this Saturday, we visited six sites, many of which are exquisite, and I share them with you. Photos 1/2: Bo’er Cave, deep within the citrus groves stands a pair of Guanyin statues, elegant and upright. According to records, there was an inscription on the lower right of the niche reading: “Recorded on the 21st day of the 2nd month in the Xiantong era,” but on-site it is almost untraceable. Photos 3/4: Baiyan Temple, adjacent to the provincially protected Hesha Temple, features a mid-to-late Tang style and is divided into two areas. The most impressive is a solitary large rock in the orange grove with carvings on all four sides. Though damaged, many details remain. Photos 5/6/7/8: Guanzimen, a well-preserved niche with a Tang Dynasty depiction of the Contemplation of Infinite Life Sutra, rich in intricate and wonderful details. Photos 9/10: Jigongshu Mountain Buddha Sons, two niches. I feel one is from the early Tang and the other from the Sui Dynasty (with the famous inscription “Year 14 of Daye,” as if hearing Yang Guang’s lament). Photos 11/12/13: Jigongshu Mountain (Loumisi) statues, featuring many themes including a Bodhi auspicious image niche, implements, and flying apsaras—very splendid! This was our third visit. Photos 14/15: Shima River, Tang Dynasty. Unfortunately, modern repainting has altered the original. Interestingly, there is an inscription stating “Two more statues made and offered by Da Wei’s Thirteenth Lady Ping’an,” which has sparked debate. Some scholars believe this indicates the niche is from Western Wei, but I think stylistically it should be Tang. Let’s leave it at that. Photos 16/17: Fo’er Rock, now part of Danleng County. Inside the niche, you can see painted lotus leaves, lotus flowers, and water ripples in bright colors, quite remarkable. It is unknown if these are original Tang Dynasty colors. This grotto visit began at sunrise and ended under the moonlight, leaving us satisfied and fulfilled.

In Mingyue Village, there is a farmhouse surrounded by bamboo groves, and as soon as you step in, you are greeted by a sea of green. The sunroom isn’t very big, but the space is sufficient. The room displays different kinds of books and tie-dyed clothing. Moreover, here, you can see different shades of blue— light blue, deep blue, azure—each shade of blue leads to a different room. As a traditional folk handicraft, "tie-dye" is definitely worth spending an entire afternoon deeply experiencing. The Yuanyuan Sunroom uses plant-based tie-dye, which just by hearing about it makes you feel it’s something very healthy. Today, my bestie and I tie-dyed silk scarves and canvas bags. After deciding on the items we wanted to make, a teacher guided us with explanations and instructions. Sure enough, when you’re immersed in the experience, there’s no time to take photos. But the laughter and joy beside the dye vats will be remembered by time as this very moment. In Chengdu, where can you go for a spontaneous two-day, one-night trip? Just this week, I took my parents to personally experience staying at a five-star luxury tent hotel near Chengdu. Far from the hustle and bustle, you can relax and unwind while picking super fresh and sweet Ehime oranges right next to the campsite. Highly recommended! Overall, this two-day, one-night itinerary is perfect for couples as well as for bringing parents or kids. It’s only about an hour and a half drive from Chengdu, very convenient. On the way, you can see dense patches of citrus fruits everywhere. Ehime oranges are currently in season, while papaya mandarins aren’t ready yet. Just seeing so many fruits flashing by is very soothing! I suggest leaving in the morning because the campsite is near the famous Xilai Ancient Town. You can first take your family or friends to stroll around the town, which isn’t overly commercialized and offers a great experience. After exploring, have a meal in the town, then leisurely drive to the campsite to check in! The campsite is very large and clearly also hosts weddings, birthdays, and team-building events. When checking into the tent hotel, the group leader communicates important details with us in advance, providing very thoughtful service. The quality of the tent hotel is also very high, evident from the interior and soft furnishings. It’s great for photos too. It was my parents’ first time staying in a tent, and they were clearly very satisfied. I casually took some photos of my dad and mom and got compliments, which means we made the right choice! I especially love the view from the terrace. I heard that on sunny days, watching the sunset there is very beautiful! I personally tested the lounge chairs on the terrace—they are very relaxing. Changqiu Mountain Forest Park, which is still under construction, is suitable for light hiking and mountain climbing ⛰️. You can easily go up and down the mountain in three hours. Today is a weekday, and the weather is gloomy and cold. There were only a few scattered people on the mountain boardwalk. Both sides of the road were full of "papa gan" (a type of tangerine) hanging on the branches, but it's not yet the ripening season. The most pleasant surprise was encountering a small temple called Loumi Temple. A sign at the temple gate said vegetarian meals were available at noon. It happened to be lunchtime at 12 o'clock. Upon arrival, I met three lay Buddhists guarding the temple and 6 tourists preparing to eat. After adding two pairs of chopsticks, I finished half a bowl of cold dishes and two bowls of rice. I learned that this temple was actually built to protect the cliff carvings dating back to the Sui Dynasty. The buildings were constructed by a 90-year-old grandmother who currently resides there. The benevolent elderly lady looks exceptionally healthy. The several observation decks at the top of the mountain are very photogenic, mainly because of the unbeatable views. If you encounter a clear day with high visibility, you can gaze at the snow-capped mountains 🏔️, so I'll leave a reason to come back. If you're just hiking, navigate to Changqiu New Village. Parking is free in the community of the Party-Masses Service Center. Turn left out of the community onto the road, and in about ten minutes there will be a signpost. Just follow the stone boardwalk all the way up. The first scenic spot is the Paper Airplane Observation Deck, and in about ten minutes further up, you'll reach Loumi Temple. Then, in another half an hour, you can reach the mountaintop.

Last week, during school's autumn break, I took my child to Pujiang and discovered the joys of autumn play! We collected leaves and pine cones of various colors, camped, painted, rode horses, stayed in a villa with friends, and soaked in a hot spring together – it was so much fun! - 🙋🏻‍♀️ Day 1️⃣: Departed from Chengdu, arrived in 1 hour 📍 Shixianghu Aomori Wanxiang Campground It's right next to the Shixianghu Expressway exit, very easy to find! Pujiang Yunding Yisu is truly a healing paradise in the mountains 🌿! As a somewhat picky hotel enthusiast, I was really impressed by its design and comfort this time—from the fairy-like bamboo forest exterior to the smart indoor details, even the bedding made me fall in love instantly. Escaping Chengdu for the weekend and coming here to relax is just perfect! ✨ Stay in the mountaintop art gallery 🌄 • The location is unbeatable! Situated on a misty mountaintop, it’s a 1.5-hour drive from Chengdu. Just navigate to “50 meters south of Tanlin Primary School, Chaoyanghu Town” to find the entrance. It’s especially dreamy after rain, like living inside an ink painting. • The floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the house really get city dwellers! Waking up naturally to sunlight in the morning, you can lie in bed and see the layers of green mountains (I took tons of screenshots of the view from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the photos). • The unique “slide family room” is a joy source for kids, with themed wall paintings and indoor play facilities. My kid screamed with excitement and rushed to play on the slide as soon as we entered~ 🛋️ Detail lovers will be thrilled with the stay • Bedding is from the same supplier as five-star hotels, the down comforter is so fluffy it feels like sleeping on clouds, even picky sleepers fall asleep instantly. • Fully equipped smart appliances: automatic curtains, Bluetooth speakers, instant hot water dispenser... As a bed connoisseur, I finally found a treasure homestay I’m willing to revisit repeatedly! Paying tribute to the rare winter sunshine in Chengdu, and also to help my child get eyelid surgery and continue fulfilling our weekend outdoor quota, this week we chose Laoniupo in Jintang. I've been wanting to try it since last year, and in conclusion: if your child's stamina is up to par, and the weather is good, this is a must-do ridge route!!! 📌Tips beforehand: The ridgeline is hot and windy in summer, so please make sure the weather is good before you go. It's absolutely gorgeous on sunny and breezy days~ Also, the mountain ⛰️ is all dirt road, so choose a day when it hasn't rained recently. Trust me, you'll have a fantastic experience! 🚘: After consulting many travel guides, the navigation showed two destinations (see the fork in the road in Figure 17). ✅Route 1: The navigation says Yanjing Health Station. At the fork in the road, turn left and drive down. When you're almost there, there's a hiking trail sign on your right. You can park your car there, walk back a few dozen meters, cross a small river via a small bridge (Figure 16), climb uphill from the bottom of the mountain, and descend via the road 🛣️. ✅Route 2: Navigate to Laoniupo. At the intersection shown in Figure 17, turn right and drive uphill. You'll almost reach it. There's a small parking platform on your left, big enough for five or six cars. You can also park on the roadside. The view from there is shown in Figure 1. Start hiking from point 2 in Figure 2, walking downhill and then back uphill via the road to your car. The main loop is at least 8 kilometers. Because some guides mentioned Route 1 had difficulty passing other vehicles, we chose Route 2, which was easier to drive and park. 🎈Recommended because: The ridgeline offers expansive views. Along the way, you can see firethorn, reeds, ginkgo trees, and colorful forests, as well as animals that kids love, such as ducks, cows, butterflies, and grasshoppers. The kids loved the ridgeline trails; several formed an adventure team and acted as guides for the adults – very impressive! ⚠️: There are no supplies or toilets along the way. Bring your own food and water. You can do what we did: have a picnic on the mountaintop at noon, and then have lunch in Jintang after the hike. 🍜Food Recommendation: Ba Si Restaurant (Picture 18). We found this place on the spur of the moment; you order whatever you like. Each person got two big bowls of rice 🍚 – it was incredibly delicious! Finally: Bring your trekking poles if possible! You'll need them on the downhill sections.

Jia Yi’s favorite was the hotel’s homemade desserts, colorful and cute in shape, making her reluctant to put them down. 🍰 This trip to Pujiang was not only a physical relaxation but also a spiritual cleansing.
