Built in 1161, the Jagannath Temple is one of the major Hindu Temples in India. The primary deity of the temple is Lord Jagannath, who is a form of Lord Vishnu. Interestingly, unlike the statues found in other Hindu temple, the statue of Lord Jagannath is carved from wood and is replaced every 12 years. #givethanks #travelinspiration #couplestrip #historicallandmarks #worldheritage #givethanks

✨ Pick a Country, Unlock 9 Architectural Icons in Asia Asia is basically an open-air architecture museum. 🏛️🌏 From centuries-old temples and royal palaces to giant monuments and futuristic skylines, every country tells its history in a completely different way. This list takes you through 8 Asian countries, with 9 architectural icons from each one. Save it because your bucket list is about to get VERY long. 😂 🇨🇳 CHINA Walk through imperial history at the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven, climb the legendary Great Wall, see thousands of Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, or switch centuries completely with the futuristic Shanghai skyline. China’s scale is seriously hard to understand until you see these places in person. 🇹🇭 THAILAND Thailand might be one of the easiest places to become obsessed with architecture. ✨ Bangkok alone gives you Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace, while Chiang Rai has the almost unreal White Temple. Go farther and you’ll find ancient Ayutthaya ruins and the incredible wooden Sanctuary of Truth. 🇯🇵 JAPAN From Kyoto’s golden Kinkaku-ji and endless red torii gates at Fushimi Inari to Himeji Castle, Osaka Castle and the giant Tokyo Skytree, Japan somehow makes centuries-old architecture and ultra-modern design feel completely natural together. 🇯🇵 🇮🇩 INDONESIA Indonesia deserves WAY more than a Bali-only itinerary. 👀 Borobudur and Prambanan near Yogyakarta are two absolute bucket-list landmarks, while Bali brings Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu Beratan and the dramatic temple complexes scattered across the island. 🇻🇳 VIETNAM Vietnam’s architecture changes completely as you travel north to south. Wander the lantern-lined streets of Hoi An, explore Hue’s Imperial City, see Hanoi’s One Pillar Pagoda and Opera House, then head south for colonial landmarks and colorful religious architecture. 🇻🇳 🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA Come for Seoul’s palaces, then keep exploring. Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung are classics, but places like Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, Hwaseong Fortress and Cheomseongdae show how much history exists beyond the capital. 🇰🇷 🇮🇳 INDIA Few countries do monumental architecture quite like India. The Taj Mahal may be the superstar, but Amber Fort, Qutub Minar, the Golden Temple, Mysore Palace, Humayun’s Tomb and the incredibly detailed temples across the country deserve just as much attention. 🇮🇳 🇰🇭 CAMBODIA And then there’s Cambodia. Angkor Wat alone belongs on any Asia bucket list, but nearby Bayon, Ta Prohm, Banteay Srei and Angkor Thom make Siem Reap feel like one enormous archaeological adventure. Go farther and places like Preah Vihear and Koh Ker show there’s much more beyond the main Angkor circuit. 🇰🇭 The best part? You could travel around Asia for years and still keep discovering temples, castles, palaces, shrines, forts and ancient cities you’ve never seen before. 📌 Save this before planning your next Asia trip. Now the difficult question: if you could choose only ONE country from this list for an architecture trip, which one are you picking? 👀👇 #AsiaTravel #ArchitectureTravel #TravelAsia #ChinaTravel #ThailandTravel #JapanTravel #IndonesiaTravel #VietnamTravel #KoreaTravel #IndiaTravel #CambodiaTravel #BucketListTravel #CulturalTravel #TravelInspiration #TripMoments

Jagannath Puri, Odisha, is one of India's most sacred pilgrimage destinations, where faith, history, culture, and natural beauty come together in a truly unique way. Situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, Puri is famous for the revered Jagannath Temple, one of the four holy Char Dham pilgrimage sites established in Hindu tradition. Every year, millions of devotees and tourists visit this spiritual city to seek blessings, experience its vibrant traditions, and immerse themselves in its timeless charm. Puri is not just a place to visit—it's a destination that leaves a lasting spiritual impression. The Jagannath Temple is the heart and soul of Puri. Built during the 12th century by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva, the temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, along with Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra. Renowned for its magnificent Kalinga-style architecture, sacred rituals, and rich traditions, the temple has been a center of devotion for centuries. The temple's famous Mahaprasad, prepared in one of the world's largest temple kitchens, is considered highly sacred and is enjoyed by thousands of devotees every day. One of the biggest reasons to visit Jagannath Puri is the world-famous Rath Yatra, also known as the Festival of Chariots. During this spectacular event, the deities are taken out of the temple and placed on beautifully decorated wooden chariots that are pulled through the streets by thousands of devotees. The festival symbolizes equality and devotion, allowing everyone to receive the blessings of Lord Jagannath regardless of their background. Witnessing this celebration is an unforgettable spiritual experience. Unlike many pilgrimage destinations, Puri also offers breathtaking natural beauty. The famous Puri Beach provides visitors with a peaceful atmosphere where they can watch the sunrise, enjoy the cool sea breeze, and relax after temple visits. Many pilgrims also take a holy dip in the sea Puri is deeply rooted in Odisha's cultural heritage. Visitors can explore traditional Odia handicrafts, colorful Pattachitra paintings, local markets, and authentic regional cuisine. The city's ancient monasteries, temples, and cultural landmarks reflect centuries of devotion and artistic excellence. Nearby attractions such as the Konark Sun Temple and Chilika Lake make Puri an even more rewarding destination for travelers interested in history, architecture, and nature. The ideal time to visit Jagannath Puri is between October and February, when the weather is pleasant for sightseeing and temple visits. If you wish to witness the grandeur of the Rath Yatra, plan your trip during June or July, but make travel arrangements well in advance due to the large number of visitors. The Sun Temple left by the Solanki dynasty in the 11th century no longer houses any deities and is a monument protected by the ASI. The most stunning features are the Surya Kund stepwell and the sandstone carvings in the Thousand Pillar Hall, where the light and shadows on the reliefs are incredibly beautiful!✨ 📍 Basic Information · Location: Modhera village, Gujarat, about 100 km north of Ahmedabad. It is recommended to hire a car for a day trip (you can also visit Patan's Rani ki Vav stepwell on the way) · Opening Hours: 07:00–18:00, open on Mondays, Museum 10:00–17:00 (closed on Fridays) · Tickets: Foreign visitors ≈ ₹200–300, Indian nationals ₹25–40, photography is free 💡 Useful Tips · 🌅 Try to visit early in the morning (7–9 AM) when the light is soft, there are fewer people, and it’s not too hot. The stone surface can be scorching at noon. · 👗 Dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered. The stone ground is uneven—wear comfortable flat shoes! · 🧴 Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water. There are few shops in the park, and it gets very hot in summer. · 📸 Surya Kund has strong symmetry; standing at the east entrance to capture reflections makes for great photos—please do not climb on the stone carvings. · 🎭 The Modhera Dance Festival takes place in mid to late January, featuring a night projection show that’s worth staying for. Compared to the crowded Konark, this place is quiet and awe-inspiring. A must-visit for ancient architecture lovers and photography enthusiasts!

This time, as I strolled slowly along the old stone path through the forest, wildflower seedlings sown by volunteers using native flower seeds grew at my feet. Several forest rangers in rough work clothes were squatting on the ground, carefully clearing away the overly dense wildflowers to prevent them from competing for nutrients and affecting the nectar supply for native butterflies. Beside them were notebooks marking the blooming times of each flower, meticulously noting which flower patch attracted which type of butterfly. I also took a small shovel to help remove excess weeds. The rangers smiled and told me that this forest was almost entirely overrun by exotic ornamental plants more than a decade ago, and native wildflowers had nearly disappeared. The native butterflies that depended on these flowers for survival also dwindled. Later, everyone insisted on coming every year to replant native nectar-producing flowers and strictly prohibited the arbitrary introduction of invasive alien plants. Now… Not only were the flowers in full bloom, but rare butterflies, missing for decades, had also returned, fluttering about. Looking up, you see sunlight filtering through the leaves, and several butterflies with patterned wings flitting among the flowers. No one reached out to catch them; everyone moved quietly, careful not to disturb these beautiful little creatures. When tired, everyone sat together on an old stone slab, drinking cool tea. All trash was placed in reusable cotton bags, leaving nothing behind in the woods. Only when the setting sun cast long shadows did you finish clearing the last patch of weeds and slowly descend the mountain. This trip, focused on creating a butterfly habitat, taught you that kindness to the forest is never about radical transformation, but about giving native life enough space to slowly reclaim its home. #NewYearDestinations2026 #travel2026

📅 Itinerary Day1: Day2: Day3: 🏨 Accommodation 🍴 Food Recommendations 📌 Tips

Modhera Sun Temple, located about 100 kilometers north of Ahmedabad, was built in 1026 and has a history of over a thousand years. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Sun God Surya and is one of the three major sun worship sites in India, second only to the Konark Sun Temple. Its architecture and carvings represent the pinnacle of classical Gujarati art and it is currently on the tentative list of World Heritage Sites. The entire temple complex is rigorously laid out and divided into three parts: East side: The giant stepwell Surya Kund, with geometrically symmetrical steps descending layer by layer, looks like a solemn mandala pattern from above, combining practical and symbolic significance. Central part: The thousand-pillared dance hall Sabha Mandapa, supported by 52 intricately carved sandstone pillars, was used for sacrificial ceremonies and divine dance performances. The pillars are carved with detailed bas-reliefs of 84 yoga postures. West side: The sanctum and shrine, which once housed the statue of Surya, no longer exist. The walls and pillars are covered with high reliefs depicting Surya riding a seven-horse chariot, the twelve lunar incarnations, flying apsaras, Vishnu’s ten avatars, and more, with details as intricate as brocade. The temple is strictly oriented to the east, ensuring that on the equinoxes, sunlight passes through the porch of the pillar hall and shines directly onto the innermost wall of the sanctum, creating a unique light and shadow ritual. Rani ki Vav, the Queen’s Stepwell, is about 126 kilometers from Ahmedabad. Built between 1063 and 1068 by Queen Udayamati of the Solanki dynasty in memory of her husband King Bhima I, it is the only stepwell in India designated as a World Heritage Site and is featured on the back of the new 100-rupee Indian banknote. The Queen’s Stepwell is meticulously designed as an inverted temple, 27 meters deep, composed of 7 levels of steps, each supported by exquisitely carved stone pillars forming corridors. The walls and corridors contain over 500 major sculptures and more than 1,000 minor sculptures, creating a three-dimensional mythological universe. The carvings focus on Vishnu and his ten avatars, supplemented by sages, celestial maidens, and scenes of secular life, with extremely fine details. Shortly after its completion, the stepwell was buried under silt due to a river course change and remained underground for nearly 800 years until rediscovered in the 1940s, preserving many sculptures in excellent condition.

India 🇮🇳 is a haven for solo backpackers. Immigration procedures in Delhi can be complicated, and being suddenly dropped off in a city with a lot of touts can be unsettling. As this was a solo female trip abroad, I entered through Bhubaneswar Airport rather than a major city like Delhi, Kolkata, or Mumbai, and started my trip in the town of Puri in Odisha. [Key Points] ⚠️Everyone needs a visa. Bhubaneswar Airport does not offer visas on arrival, so you need to apply online in advance! (It can be difficult, so we recommend getting one early!) ⚠️There are no direct flights to Bhubaneswar from Japan. There are direct flights from Bangkok, so a transit stop is required. ✅Because it's a small airport, the immigration line was only about 30 minutes. My fears weren't met, and I was able to enter the country without a hitch. ✅ Take Uber from Bhubaneswar to the town of Puri! ✅ Puri is a peaceful seaside town. Coastal fishing is thriving and the seafood is delicious. ✅ There's a Japanese inn called Santana, where you can get information from various people traveling in India! I'd heard the sea was dirty, but it was clean enough to swim in! Above all, the town has a laid-back atmosphere. Early in the morning, coastal fishing boats set out all at once, and in the evening you can get a glimpse of the lives of the fishermen who return and sell fish by the roadside. You can see a view you won't find in any other town!! #India #IndiaTravel #BhubaneswarAirport #Puri #india #Bhubaneswar #puri #odisha
