Departing from Shijiazhuang: A 1-hour trip to explore a forgotten Yuan Dynasty hall --- 1. Quyang · Beiyue Temple Why go: The highest-spec Yuan Dynasty wooden structure for worshipping the Five Sacred Mountains. It houses authentic murals by Wu Daozi, and the Quyang "ghost murals" are a masterpiece. How to get there: Shijiazhuang Passenger Transport Terminal > Quyang. A 1-hour direct drive via expressway. Ticket price: CNY 30. What to do: Dening Hall (the largest existing Yuan Dynasty wooden structure), the "Yunxing Yushi" and "Wanguo Xianning" murals on the east and west walls, and Xiude Temple Pagoda. What to eat: Quyang sesame flatbread (shaobing), donkey meat burger (huoshao). Tips: Dening Hall may be under maintenance; tickets are half-price at CNY 20. Confirm opening status before you go. 2. Yingtan Ancient Village Why go: A Ming and Qing Dynasty stone fortress deep in the Taihang Mountains. It features 67 layered stone courtyards with zero commercialization and almost no tourists. How to get there: About 70 km drive from Xingtai city center. Mostly mountain roads; experienced drivers recommended. What to do: Guihetang (former site of the 129th Division Headquarters of the Eighth Route Army), ancient village walls, 36 stone bridges, and stone-paved alleys. What to eat: Farmhouse "big pot" stew and cured meat noodles in Luluo Town. Tips: No admission fee. Wear comfortable shoes; the stone paths have been worn smooth over hundreds of years and are very slippery. 3. Cangzhou · Dahua Industrial Heritage Park Why go: A cyberpunk art district transformed from an abandoned fertilizer plant. With rusty pipes and blue-purple lasers, a night visit feels like walking onto a sci-fi movie set. How to get there: Take a bus to "Dahua Group" station in Cangzhou city center, or take a shared e-scooter directly there. What to do: Old train locomotives, industrial installations, plays at the 12 Degrees Art Space, and the Can Can Paradise. What to eat: Donkey meat burger, hot pot chicken, and intangible cultural heritage tea soup. Tips: Best for photos from afternoon to dusk. The blue-purple lighting only looks effective after dark. 4. Baoding · Guangyuan Garden Why go: A private residence built by Cao Kun in 1916. It was the site of secret plots during the Zhili-Anhui and Zhili-Fengtian wars. It is free, but almost no one knows about it. How to get there: Yonghua South Street in Baoding city center. Accessible by bus, with street parking available. What to do: The "Gong"-shaped main building with hidden attic passages, the round fortress corner tower, and the War of Resistance historical exhibition at the Local Chronicles Museum. What to eat: Baijia Zhaobing (pancake in soup) and donkey meat burger. Tips: Closed on Mondays. Admission is free, but you must register with your ID. The lighting is best for photos between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Summary Visit Quyang for the Yuan Dynasty hall, explore the stone fortress in Yingtan, photograph industrial ruins in Cangzhou, and tour the Republic of China-era secret residence in Baoding. All 4 cities are reachable from Shijiazhuang in about 1 hour, with almost no lines and very low costs.

"The Way of the Master: Gao Yingpo Art Exhibition" is currently being held in Exhibition Hall 19 on the first floor of the National Art Museum of China. ⭐ This exhibition is part of the National Art Museum of China's Arts and Crafts Invitation Series and marks the first time Quyang stone carving and Ding ware porcelain art have been presented at the museum as a solo artist exhibition. ⭐ The exhibition features 52 pieces (sets) of Gao Yingpo's representative works, covering both stone carving and Ding ware porcelain creation systems. Some works were created in collaboration with his fifth-generation successor, Gao Minglu. ⭐ Representative stone carving works: ❋ "Nine Songs: Mountain Spirit" (Image 3): White marble, created in 2019, featuring a lively and vivid design. ❋ "Righteousness Reaching the Clouds" (Image 17): Black jade, created in 2023, featuring a bold and substantial style. ❋ "Child Worshiping Guanyin" (Image 16): Xiuyan jade, created in 2018, featuring exquisite and delicate craftsmanship. ⭐ Representative Ding ware porcelain works: ❋ "Harmony and Beauty" (Image 19): Ding ware porcelain, created in 2026, continuing the elegant style of the Song Dynasty Ding kiln. ❋ "Autumn Interest" (Image 12), "Bamboo Shadows and Zen Heart" (Image 18), and other works innovatively incorporate three-dimensional stone carving composition techniques into porcelain engraving, achieving a cross-disciplinary fusion of two intangible cultural heritage skills. ⭐ Artist background Gao Yingpo is from Quyang, Hebei, born in 1972. He is a Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts and a provincial-level inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Quyang stone carving. By advancing in both intangible cultural heritage fields simultaneously, he has formed a unique artistic style that combines traditional heritage with contemporary aesthetics. ⭐ Exhibition address: Exhibition Hall 10, First Floor, National Art Museum of China ⭐ Exhibition dates: September 4, 2026 – October 7, 2026 ⭐ Admission is free, but reservation is required ⭐ Transportation: Exit A, Beijing Subway Line 8

Walking into the "Northern Dynasties Buddha" exhibition hall at the Dingzhou Museum, you are greeted by a warm, gentle glow of white stone. This is a treasure trove of northern white stone Buddhist statues. Each piece of stone carving, having weathered a thousand years, quietly tells the long story of the localization of Buddhist art. The most famous piece in the hall is the Zilai Buddha Head. This late Northern Dynasties white stone Buddha head originally belonged to the 6.7-meter-tall standing Medicine Buddha statue at the Shifo Temple northeast of the city. Later, the head and body were separated; the body remained at the original site, while the head was brought into the museum for safekeeping. It features a low, flat ushnisha, a broad forehead, full cheeks, slightly lowered eyes, and a faint smile at the corners of the mouth—this is the "Northern Dynasties Smile" that draws countless visitors. There is no deliberate solemn deterrence, only calm compassion. The incomplete face actually has a more striking power, making it the undisputed star artifact of the exhibition hall. The Northern Qi white stone round-sculpted Bodhisattva statue is a highly popular artifact at the Dingzhou Museum, often called the "Venus of the East" by many tourists. The Bodhisattva's posture shows an elegant S-curve twist, with a full and soft physique. It wears an exquisite crown, a necklace, and complex beaded ornaments, with a silk shawl draped gracefully from the shoulders. The clothing folds are thin and cling to the body, a classic example of the "Cao-style water-drenched" technique, as if a gauze garment is covering the skin. The face is full and soft, with gentle eyebrows and eyes, and a faint, almost imperceptible smile at the corners of the mouth, appearing both calm and lively. Despite having survived for a thousand years, it is remarkably well-preserved with no major damage. Late Northern Dynasties artisans blended strength with softness, infusing the Buddhist statue with worldly gentleness. It is captivating at first glance, making it the most photogenic stone carving treasure in the hall. Another popular highlight is the Northern Qi openwork double-contemplating Bodhisattva statue. On the white stone, the openwork technique was used to carve a dragon-tree treasure niche. The two Bodhisattvas are shown resting their cheeks in contemplation. Around the niche, warriors, guardian lions, and flying apsaras are densely arranged—complex yet not cluttered, lively yet restrained—often causing visitors to stop and take photos. There are also other treasures like the Cicada-crowned Bodhisattva and the gilded painted standing Buddha statue, all with beautiful lines and enduring charm, which are equally beloved. Following the exhibition line, one can clearly see the evolution of Northern Dynasties statue styles: The Northern Wei favored "elegant bones and clear features," with Buddha statues having gaunt faces, slender bodies, and wearing loose robes with wide belts, with layered, flowing clothing folds that carried the ethereal spirit of Wei and Jin scholars, heavily influenced by Central Plains aesthetics. The Eastern Wei was a transitional stage where faces shifted from gaunt to full and round, Bodhisattva themes increased, and decorations on the base—such as twin lions, Boshan incense burners, and miraculously born children—became increasingly rich, with carving focusing more on detailed interest. By the Northern Qi, the "Cao-style water-drenched" style prevailed; the Buddha's robes were thin and clung to the body, revealing the contours of the physique, while the faces were full and warm with gentle smiles. This style had less of the detached coldness and more human warmth, paving the way for the graceful and dignified bearing of Sui and Tang dynasty statues. Relying on the white stone resources of Quyang, Dingzhou became an important center for statue making during the Northern Dynasties. Artisans used stone as paper and knives as pens, carving faith, aesthetics, and the emotions of the era into the stone. Standing there, you see not just Buddha statues, but a long river of civilizational integration and aesthetic evolution.

One of the most striking pieces I came across at the Zhejiang Provincial Museum was this painted stone warrior figure from the Later Liang dynasty of the Five Dynasties period (907–923). The exhibition, “A Time of Peace · Peace Across the Realm”, identifies it as a painted stone warrior excavated from the tomb of Wang Chuzhi in Quyang, Hebei, in 1994. The same tomb produced a remarkable group of sculptures, and another painted stone warrior from Wang Chuzhi's tomb is held by the National Museum of China. What caught my attention was the wording on the labels. Both museum labels simply describe the pieces as having been “excavated” from the tomb. Of course, museum labels have their own conventions, and provenance is often a complicated subject involving archaeology, collecting history, transfers and institutional custody. But as a visitor, it is hard not to wonder about the larger story behind these extraordinary sculptures—and how they eventually came to be held in different collections. The most intriguing possibility would be to see the two warrior figures displayed together one day. Separated for decades, they could finally be reunited in the same exhibition space, allowing visitors to compare their carving, painted details, posture and surviving colours side by side. It would be more than simply putting two beautiful objects next to each other. It would reconnect pieces of a single archaeological discovery and allow the original artistic ensemble to be understood more completely. The warriors themselves are impressive. Carved in stone and originally covered with colour, they once formed part of the elaborate funerary world of Wang Chuzhi, a powerful military and political figure of the Five Dynasties period. Their presence gives us a glimpse into the ceremonial imagination of the era, when tomb sculpture was used to create an entire world around the deceased. And yet, after more than a millennium, even these stone guardians have acquired another layer of history—the modern history of excavation, collection and museum display. Perhaps that is what makes seeing them today so fascinating. A museum object can carry several histories at once. The history of the dynasty that created it. The history of the tomb where it was found. The history of its excavation. And the modern history of how it travelled into the museum system. 📍 Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China 🇨🇳 🏺 Later Liang Dynasty, Five Dynasties Period · 907–923 📸 Photography Tip: Look closely at the surviving traces of pigment. Side lighting can help reveal the carved folds of the armour, facial details and remnants of the original painted surface. ✨ Two stone warriors, one tomb, two collections—and perhaps one day, one exhibition. I hope the day comes when the two figures can stand together again, allowing us to see not only the beauty of each sculpture, but a more complete fragment of the world they once guarded.

Here’s a straightforward summary for Baoding in August 🌞: the old city cultural route plus the Taihang mountain summer escape route. Three days and two nights, spending just over 500 per person, you can enjoy it fully. The key is how to avoid the scorching midday sun, or it will really be tough. This time I learned my lesson. Coming to Baoding in August, the dumbest thing is rushing to outdoor attractions in the morning. Between 12 PM and 3 PM, standing under the blazing sun at the Zhili Governor’s Office almost broke me. After returning, my travel spending mindset completely collapsed—not because it was expensive, but because I was sunburned, exhausted, and foolishly waited in two-hour lines. 🏨 Accommodation tips (no risks) Take my advice: stick to the Lianchi District around Yuhua Road or West Street. It’s within a 5-minute walk to the Zhili Governor’s Office, Ancient Lotus Pond, and West Street. Old city lodging costs 150–350 yuan, offering the best value 👑. I stayed near Wanbo Square at a chain hotel. A 150-yuan-per-night queen room with private bathroom and good soundproofing. Just a couple of steps downstairs is a century-old donkey meat sandwich shop. ⚠️ Avoid small inns near the train station; the quality varies. Don’t touch the low-priced hotels soliciting customers at the high-speed rail exit—they’re dirty, chaotic, and overpriced. August is peak season, so book on Trip.com at least 15 days in advance. Last-minute bookings often mean no rooms or double prices. A friend of mine paid twice as much last time for a last-minute booking and regretted it. 💰 Best price tips For tickets, buying combo passes on Trip.com is the best deal: Zhili Governor’s Office + Huai Army Office + Ancient Animal Museum + Lianchi Academy four-attraction combo ticket for 99 yuan. Single tickets cost 35 for the Governor’s Office, 25 for the Huai Army Office, and 30 for Ancient Lotus Pond. The combo saves you the cost of a donkey meat sandwich 🥙. Yesanpo Bailixia ticket is 100 yuan, plus the Wild Life immersive experience ticket for 115 yuan. Baishishan West Gate entry is 135 yuan. Ticket + Xiangyunmen cable car round trip + Ten Waterfalls Gorge is 310 yuan. Yishui Lake ticket + round-trip boat ticket is 135 yuan ⛴️. Baiyangdian Xiong County dock boat ticket + choice of Lotus Grand View Garden or Cultural Garden is 108 yuan; all-inclusive is 148 yuan. In August, the lotus flowers at Baiyangdian are in full bloom, but sitting on the boat at noon will leave you questioning life from the sun exposure. Evening tours are recommended. The 80-yuan lake cruise has morning and afternoon sessions to choose from. 🗺️ My easy itinerary (no rushing) Day 1 Slow tour of the old city 🏛️ Morning at Zhili Governor’s Office (2 hours is enough), then a 5-minute walk to Ancient Lotus Pond. The lotus flowers are beautiful in August, a rare southern-style garden in the north, perfect for vintage-style photos 📸. For lunch, downstairs has a round donkey meat sandwich with beef pancake. The 10-yuan sandwich is completely different from the long style in Hejian! In the afternoon, visit the Huai Army Office to see the Hui-style theater building with exquisite wood carvings and few visitors. Evening stroll along West Street, a Republican-era old street with bluestone slabs and red lanterns, creating a great night atmosphere. Day 2 Taihang mountain summer escape ⛰️ All day at Yesanpo Bailixia. Honestly, the city is hot and stuffy in August, but the mountain temperature is several degrees cooler. Walking into the gorge is refreshing. The Bailixia hike takes 3 hours, with streams and forests creating a natural oxygen bar. You can also raft on the Juma River. Wear non-slip sports shoes and bring mosquito repellent; there are more mosquitoes in the mountains than you expect. Lunch is local farmhouse dishes costing a few dozen yuan per person. In the evening, return to the city to visit the Military Academy Square night market. Day 3 Choose between lake view or glass plank road 🌊 If you have energy, go to Baishishan. The suspended glass plank road experience is amazing. The mountaintop is 5–8℃ cooler than the city, so bring a light jacket. For a more relaxed day, go to Yishui Lake, take a boat tour, and enjoy the lake breeze. Known as the Little Guilin of the north, it’s flat and easy for elders and kids. 💡 Avoid outdoor attractions during peak heat hours (12 PM–3 PM) in August. Either rest at the hotel or visit indoor spots like museums. On day 2, I foolishly rushed to Baishishan at noon and suffered halfway up the stairs—such a dumb move. 🍜 Food and drink tips Baoding’s prices are surprisingly low. You can eat well for 50 yuan a day. Check off donkey meat sandwiches, beef pancakes, Baiyunzhang steamed buns, and Quyang black dumplings. At Heda Night Market and West Street food street, you can enjoy plenty of food for just a few dozen yuan 🍢. For street snacks, choose reputable shops and stalls with local queues. Specialty shops at attraction entrances are overpriced. Don’t buy vacuum-packed donkey meat near attractions; the same products are half the price in city supermarkets. Three things to remember when visiting Baoding in August: book accommodation early, avoid outdoor activities at noon, and bring a jacket for the mountains. Follow this guide, and you won’t break down—you’ll fall in love with this small city on Beijing’s outskirts just like I did, with a completely changed spending mindset 💕.

Before I went, I thought Baoding was just a small city close to Beijing, how special could it be? Three days later, I'm back at my desk, but my mind is still wandering under the shade of the locust trees on Xidajie. This place has a lasting impact, not in an immediately exciting way, but something that slowly sinks in after you've returned. 🏛️The ancient city's spirit lives on The Zhili Governor's Office is China's best-preserved Qing Dynasty provincial yamen. For over a century, from the Yongzheng to Xuantong eras, figures like Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang worked here. The solemn atmosphere inside feels very authentic, not like a mere backdrop. The Ancient Lotus Pond is a Qing Dynasty imperial garden, a place Emperor Qianlong visited seven times. The pond, pavilions, and rockeries are harmoniously arranged, and every turn in the winding corridors reveals a picturesque scene, more exquisite than many southern gardens. Daci Pavilion is the highest point in Baoding's ancient city. From the top floor, you can see the entire old town's gray-tiled rooftops. Evening is the best time to visit. The Huai Army Headquarters is now a museum, showcasing the history of the Huai Army and Huizhou-style architecture. The Qinghe Dao Yamen is the only well-preserved Daoist yamen in the country. Chiang Kai-shek and Ye Ting were graduates of the former Baoding Military Academy. Check its opening hours before you go. 🛤️Xidajie, Baoding's most authentic flavor This old street retains the style of the late Qing and early Republic of China periods; it's not a trendy spot or a commercialized area. Dentists, photo studios, and stationery shops are still open for business, and locust trees extend over walls, shading half the street. At 6:00 PM, the setting sun lengthens the shadows of the old shop signs, and the aroma of food and fried snacks begins to fill the air—that unhurried, grounded feeling is something that cannot be artificially created. 🌿Nature and culture, all in one day The lotus flowers in Baiyangdian are at their peak in July and August. The lake is crisscrossed with waterways, and the reeds are taller than a person. Take a small boat and glide through; the sound of the oars parting the water brings a sense of calm. Yishui Lake is known as "Northern Guilin." Langya Mountain offers canyons and waterfalls, and Baili Gorge in Yesanpo is also a great place in summer. If you only have time for one place, visit the Han Tombs in Mancheng, the tomb of Liu Sheng, King Jing of Zhongshan, and the site where the jade burial suit sewn with gold thread was unearthed. 🥢Taste Baoding Donkey meat burger: Round, braised flatbreads are most common, with finely minced, fragrant meat. Beef chaobing: Sliced beef is placed on torn flatbread, then hot broth is poured over it. The broth is clear, the meat is tender, and the flatbread is chewy. Sugar-coated hawthorn: Baoding's sugar-coated hawthorn is famous for its large hawthorn berries, crispy sugar coating, and non-sticky texture. Baoding soybean paste: Can be taken home as a souvenir. Baiyangdian all-fish feast, Gaoyang braised pork hock, Dingzhou braised jelly, Quyang flatbread—plan your appetite before you set off. 🚶Three days, two nights, take your time Day 1: Zhili Governor's Office > Ancient Lotus Pond > Daci Pavilion > Xidajie for food and exploration Day 2: Mancheng Han Tombs (half day) > Huai Army Headquarters / Qinghe Dao Yamen in the afternoon Day 3: Baiyangdian (or Yishui Lake, choose one) > High-speed train back in the evening 🚄Practical information Transportation: High-speed train from Beijing West Station to Baoding East Station takes 40 minutes, as frequent as a bus. Accommodation: Stay near the Zhili Governor's Office; the old town is within walking distance. Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are best. Summer is hot, but the lotus flowers in Baiyangdian are in full bloom. Winter has snow scenery but is cold. Admission tickets: Zhili Governor's Office about CNY 30, Ancient Lotus Pond about CNY 20, Mancheng Han Tombs about CNY 45. Baoding is suitable for those who want to "change places for a couple of days"—it has a historical foundation, old streets to stroll through, and flatbreads to fill your stomach. It's not stunning or a trendy spot, but after three days, it leaves a lasting impression🌿

Visiting Hengyang Academy truly moved me with its quiet scholarly atmosphere~ No noisy tourist spots here, just green tiles and white walls, ancient cypresses standing tall, and even the breeze carries a faint scent of ink, as if you can hear the clear voices of ancient scholars reading aloud📚 ✨ Old Traditions Hidden in the Lecture Hall Push open the wooden door of "Minglun Hall," and with a creak, it feels like traveling through time~ In the center stands the teacher’s lectern, flanked by neat desks. Sunlight streams through the lattice windows, casting spots of light on the wooden floor where tiny dust particles float. On the wall hangs a plaque inscribed with "Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom, and Trustworthiness," instantly reminding one of the old tradition of respecting teachers and valuing learning😌 Try sitting at the desk, pretending to hold a brush pen, and for a moment, you might feel like a diligent student studying hard in the cold window light~ 🌿 The Backyard Garden is So Healing There’s a little surprise behind the academy! Rockeries and flowing water wind around the pavilions, a few old locust trees grow lush and full, with stone tables and benches underneath—perfect for sitting and daydreaming. Morning glories climb up the bamboo fence in the corner, their pink-purple flowers dotting the green leaves, blending beautifully with the antique architecture, evoking a sense of "stealing half a day of leisure"🌸 I heard that in the past, students would come here to stroll and discuss their studies when tired of reading, and even the air seems filled with earnestness~ 💡 Tips for Visiting the Academy 1. Located inside Quyang City, not far from Beiyue Temple, so you can visit both on the same trip. 2. Wear plain-colored clothes for better photos! White shirts, cotton-linen skirts match perfectly with the academy’s rustic charm. 3. Don’t be loud! The quiet atmosphere is well preserved here; walking softly and taking your time to look around is the most comfortable way to enjoy it. 4. Pay attention to details! The wood carvings on the door lintels and the patterns on the window frames all hide the cleverness of our ancestors. When leaving, the sunset shines on the academy’s gate tower, casting long shadows. Suddenly, it feels like places where you can quietly feel history are more memorable than fast-paced check-ins~ If you love tranquility, you must come here for a visit✨

Strolling around Beiyue Temple on a rainy day ☔️ Unexpectedly discovered this forgotten national heritage treasure ✨ 📍 Address: No. 2 Beiyue Road, Hengzhou Town, Quyang County, Baoding City, Hebei Province ⏰ Opening hours: 8:30 AM–5:30 PM year-round This was once a place for worshiping Beiyue Until the 17th year of the Qing Shunzhi reign Beiyue actually referred to Mount Damao, not Hengshan in Hunyuan! 🌧️ Rainy days add to the atmosphere. The entire park is symmetrically laid out along the central axis. The restoration doesn’t feel northern at all, with lush greenery everywhere Perfect for photos with a strong vibe! Chinese architecture appears faintly through the rain and mist Instantly transports you back to ancient times 💔 A little regret: The much-anticipated Yuan dynasty Denning Hall Is still not open to the public But the other buildings are worth seeing! Visiting the National Museum of China, most people head straight for the gold-threaded jade burial suits or the Tang dynasty tri-colored glazed pottery treasures, often missing a pair of exceptionally beautiful, deeply moving, and masterfully crafted Five Dynasties national treasures—the painted relief warrior stone carvings. These are not cold stones; they represent the pinnacle of art that has not faded for a thousand years and stand as legendary witnesses to the pursuit and eventual return of our nation's cultural relics across mountains and seas. Many pass by quickly, only seeing their majestic presence, without understanding their craftsmanship value, historical significance, and the twists and turns of their journey home. Beijing’s local in-depth scenic spot narration brand, "Xiucai Shuo," has long been guiding visitors to deeply unlock the core national treasures of the National Museum. Today, we bring you the exclusive charm of these "Millennium Door Gods," so your visit to the National Museum will be far from superficial! 🗿 National Treasure Profile: The pinnacle of Five Dynasties stone carving art The painted relief warrior stone carvings date back to the Later Liang period of the Five Dynasties. Unearthed in 1994 from the tomb of Wang Chuzhi in Quyang, Hebei, the entire piece is carved from top-quality Quyang white marble in high relief. The dimensions are grand and well-proportioned: 113.5 cm tall, 58 cm wide, and 11.7 cm thick. It is one of the most complete, best-preserved, and artistically superior stone carvings from the Five Dynasties. The Five Dynasties period was a transitional era between the Tang and Song dynasties, marked by frequent wars and scarce surviving relics. This pair of warrior stone carvings perfectly inherits the majestic aesthetics of the Tang dynasty while pioneering the elegant style of the Song dynasty, serving as a crucial physical testament to the artistic transition between Tang and Song, with irreplaceable historical weight. Unlike most ancient stone carvings that have faded and weathered, these warriors retain bright colors and clear painted layers thanks to high-quality mineral pigments and excellent preservation conditions. The golden armor and intricate patterns perfectly replicate the craftsmanship of a flourishing era from a thousand years ago. ✨ Detail Perfection! The ultimate aesthetics of one dragon and one phoenix, one ox and one deer The National Museum exhibits a pair of warrior stone carvings, with subtle details cleverly designed to complement each other—without a guide, their exquisite features are hard to appreciate: ✅ Majestic posture, full of spirit Both warriors wear delicate helmets and classic Tang dynasty Mingguang armor. Every detail—from neck guards, shoulder plates, armor straps, to the abdominal protection—is meticulously carved. Their figures are upright and robust, eyes fierce and commanding, standing with swords in hand, embodying the typical Buddhist guardian king image. ✅ Auspicious dragon and phoenix, yin and yang harmony The left warrior has a green dragon perched on his shoulder and a deer underfoot; the right warrior has a phoenix holding a pearl on his shoulder and a reclining ox underfoot. One dragon, one phoenix, one deer, one ox—symmetrical and harmonious, symbolizing ancient prayers for spiritual protection and peace. ✅ Millennium-old painting, stunning through time Ancient artisans applied natural mineral pigments layer by layer, combined with gold leaf techniques, resulting in colors with strong adhesion. Even after a thousand years, the colors remain rich and layered, breaking the stereotype that stone carvings are colorless and revealing the superb skills of Five Dynasties master craftsmen. 📜 Legendary Past: A lifetime of wandering, finally returning home as a national treasure What moves people most about this relic is not just its beauty and craftsmanship but its dramatic and passionate story of repatriation. In 1994, the tomb of Wang Chuzhi in Quyang, Hebei, was looted, and this precious pair of warrior stone carvings was lost overseas, even appearing at international auctions, facing the prospect of permanent exile abroad. To bring these national treasures home, China engaged in extensive negotiations and persistent pursuit. Ultimately, with the help of patriotic individuals, the two stone carvings were returned to the motherland free of charge and are now housed in the National Museum of China. These millennium-old warriors once guarded ancient tombs, endured wandering and hardship, and now stand firmly in the museum’s exhibition hall, protecting the cultural heritage of China. This is the destiny of cultural relics and the best testament to the strength of a great nation. Every visitor who stops to admire them can understand the unique cultural inheritance and patriotic romance of China. 📸 National Museum Visit Guide Exhibition location: Core area of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms section in the "Ancient China" exhibition at the National Museum of China 👀 Viewing highlights: Examine the armor textures, dragon and phoenix auspicious beasts, millennium-old painting details, and the warriors’ facial expressions 💡 Viewing tips: After visiting the Tang dynasty section, move on to this exhibit to clearly feel the artistic evolution during the Tang-Song transition period and better understand the historical context 🎧 Xiucai Shuo · National Museum Premium Half-Day Guided Tour | Understand the stories behind the national treasures Visiting the National Museum alone only reveals the warriors’ majestic appearance; joining "Xiucai Shuo" for an in-depth tour lets you hear about the millennium-old craftsmanship, turbulent history, and passionate stories of cultural relic repatriation. When you visit the National Museum, don’t miss these millennium Door Gods! See the vivid paintings, appreciate ancient craftsmanship, and feel the cultural legacy.

Baoding is perfect for a summer mountain retreat! With the beginning of summer, the sky is clear and the air is fresh—it's the ideal time for off-peak travel. The four distinctive mountains—Baishi Mountain, Bailixia Gorge, Langya Mountain, and Hushan Mountain—each have their own charm, inviting you to a midsummer mountain adventure. 【Baishi Mountain】 Located at the northernmost end of the Taihang Mountains in Laiyuan, Baishi Mountain is named for its many white stones. It boasts a vegetation coverage rate of 98% and negative oxygen ion concentration of 30,000/cm³. The average summer temperature is only 21°C, making it a "natural air conditioner." Climb up to enjoy the rolling sea of clouds and the rare Buddha’s light; from June to July, the alpine lilac flowers bloom in succession, spreading purple hues across the slopes and valleys. The peak forest, bizarre rocks, rustling woods, sunrise, and starry skies compose a natural quintet here. 【Bailixia Gorge】 Bailixia Gorge in Laishui consists of three valleys: Haitangyu, Shixuan Gorge, and Scorpion Valley, stretching 105 Chinese miles in total. It is known as the "Number One Gorge Under Heaven." Haitangyu features rushing streams and cascading waterfalls, with scenic spots like "Tiger’s Mouth," "One Line Sky," "Looking Back Guanyin," and "Heavenly Bridge" densely scattered. The circular tour route of Shixuan Gorge connects spectacular cliff sights such as "Cheniu Lake" waterfall, "Water Curtain Cave," the curved "No Sky" passage, and "Lion Emerges." The highest summer temperature does not exceed 23°C, making it a truly refreshing oxygen bar. 【Langya Mountain】 Langya Mountain in Yixian has a forest coverage rate of 80%, with green pines and cypresses and flowing waterfalls creating a rare beautiful northern mountain landscape, often called the "Little Huangshan of the North." Beyond its scenery, it carries profound revolutionary history: the cliff where the Five Heroes jumped, the memorial tower, and other red landmarks are clearly traceable. Hiking here is both a forest bath and an immersive history lesson—scenery and spirit resonate in harmony. 【Hushan Mountain】 Hushan Mountain in Quyang is ecologically pristine, combining mountains, forests, springs, streams, waterfalls, and lakes, making it a genuine "natural oxygen bar." It holds a thousand-year history of gold mining, where you can explore a constant 16°C gold mine tunnel over a kilometer long and experience the entire gold smelting process. More than 500,000 folk artifacts from the 1960s to 1990s are displayed across 30 exhibition halls. With abundant family-friendly facilities, the mountain wilderness offers both fresh, sweet air and a warm touch of the past. Come to Baoding and start your unique journey now!

As spring light flows and the flying celestial robes seem ready to take flight, history breathes vividly in this moment. 【Chen Wenzeng Ding Porcelain Art Museum】 Systematically displays over 2,000 representative works of contemporary Ding ware porcelain, calligraphy, and poetry by the Ding kiln master Chen Wenzeng. The basement features the themed exhibition “800 Years of Ding Kiln, 500 Years of Tribute,” outlining the pinnacle of Chinese white porcelain with a thousand exquisite replicas. 【Quyang Cultural Museum】 A state-approved museum with a sculpture culture hall presenting a panoramic exhibition of Quyang stone carving evolution from the Shang and Zhou Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Beiyue Culture Hall uses models and videos to restore the architecture and mural charm of Beiyue Temple, serving as a three-dimensional textbook to understand Quyang’s “stone soul and porcelain spirit.” Anguo’s horseshoe-shaped baked flatbread, small salty snacks, medicinal cuisine, Quyang’s black girl dumplings, and kiln-baked flatbread... these intangible cultural heritage foods are living legacies on the tongue and the warmest human notes of this journey. The fragrance of medicine settles the body, the charm of stone nourishes the heart—two days and one night is just right to turn spring into a poem you can travel, feel, and taste. Nannie Water (now Qinxian, Shanxi) holds a special place in Buddhist history, centered on the "Nannie Water Stone Carving Cache" unearthed in 1959. It is hailed as the "China's First Folk Stone Carving Museum," with its uniqueness reflected in the following three aspects: 1. The Unique "Building Block" Statue Tower This is the most iconic discovery of Nannie Water. Unlike fixed grottoes such as Yungang and Longmen, the statue towers here are stacked from multiple square stone blocks, each with niches on all four sides, allowing them to be assembled and disassembled like building blocks. This movable tower-column structure is extremely rare nationwide and serves as a living fossil for studying the internal layout of Northern Dynasties temples. 2. A "Living Archive of Folk Beliefs" Spanning 500 Years These stone carvings span from the 2nd year of Yongping in the Northern Wei Dynasty (509 AD) to the 9th year of Tiansheng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1031 AD), covering over 520 years. They fully document the evolution of Buddhist art from "delicate and refined images" to "plump and robust forms." Since they were funded and carved by the common people, the statues incorporate numerous scenes of folk performances and agricultural life, making them precious samples for studying ancient secular beliefs. 3. One of the Three Major Caches and the Mystery of "Avoiding Calamity" The Nannie Water stone carvings, along with those in Quyang, Hebei, and the Wanfo Temple in Chengdu, Sichuan, are known as the three major Buddhist stone carving caches of 20th-century China. These artifacts were carefully buried by monks and believers during the Northern Song period (presumably to avoid "Buddhist persecution" or war). They were neatly arranged, thus surviving millennia of weathering and preserving their original artistic style.

Baoding Great Wall has always been an important part of the southern Yan Great Wall. In a sense, the Great Wall history and culture of Baoding represent the defensive and war history of Yan, Hebei, and the Taihang Mountains. At the Baoding Museum, you can see the "Baoding Great Wall History and Culture Exhibition." For most people, the history of the Baoding Great Wall is a relatively niche topic. ✅History and Remains of the Baoding Great Wall The Great Wall history and culture of Baoding are rich and diverse, covering multiple historical periods including the Warring States Zhongshan Great Wall, the Warring States Southern Yan Great Wall, and the Ming Inner Great Wall. 1️⃣ Warring States Zhongshan Great Wall The State of Zhongshan was a small vassal state during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, located between the Yan and Zhao states. To protect itself, Zhongshan began building the Great Wall in 369 BC, mainly distributed across Laiyuan, Tang County, Shunping, and Quyang counties in Baoding. The Zhongshan Great Wall is a typical early vassal state wall, built according to the terrain and using local materials with a simple form. The wall was mainly constructed with rough stone or a mix of earth and stone. Some key points had beacon towers for observation and alarm. 2️⃣ Warring States Southern Yan Great Wall The Yan state was a vassal state established in the early Western Zhou period, bordering Zhao, Zhongshan, and Qi states to the south. To strengthen its defense, it built two walls: the Southern Yan and Northern Yan Great Walls. Mainly located in Yixian and Xushui District, about 65 kilometers of wall and ruins remain, roughly following the southern Yishui River, also called the "Yishui Great Wall." It was mainly built with rammed earth, with some sections mixed with earth and stone. Many parts used ancient dikes as the wall foundation, serving both water defense and military defense functions. 3️⃣ Ming Inner Great Wall During the Ming Dynasty, the Inner Great Wall was built to strengthen the capital's defense. The Ming Great Wall within Baoding is part of this Inner Great Wall, under the jurisdiction of Zhenbao Town (also called Baoding Town), serving as the first line of defense southwest of the capital. It mainly spans five counties: Laiyuan, Fuping, Laishui, Yixian, and Tang County. Built primarily with stacked stones and bricks, it winds along the Taihang Mountains for 153 kilometers. Currently, there are 19 surviving passes, 309 enemy platforms, and 100 beacon towers. Among them, Zijin Pass in Yixian and Daoma Pass in Tang County are important gates of the "Inner Three Passes." The sections of the wall in Wulonggou and Baishikou in Laiyuan preserve the original appearance best. ✅Historical Culture of the Baoding Great Wall 1️⃣ Military Defense Culture The Baoding Great Wall is an outstanding example of ancient military defense engineering, built mainly to resist foreign invasions and protect the country and its people. 2️⃣ Ethnic Integration Culture The areas along the Baoding Great Wall are home to multiple ethnic groups. Through long-term interaction and integration, these groups have jointly created a rich and colorful culture. The earliest builders of the Great Wall, the Zhongshan state, was established by the Xianyu tribe of the northern nomadic Baidi people. 3️⃣ Red Revolutionary Culture The Baoding Great Wall area is the birthplace of the first enemy rear anti-Japanese base led by the Communist Party of China‼️ (the very first, a landmark of the Anti-Japanese War). Famous battles such as the Huangtuling killing of Abe Norihide and the Yilai battle defending the Jin-Cha-Ji base all took place along the Baoding Great Wall. These red stories have become an important part of the Baoding Great Wall's historical culture. ✅Impressions The history and culture of the Baoding Great Wall largely reflect the long-standing northern defense against foreign tribes, with characteristics typical of a major military stronghold. It’s no wonder Baoding is known as the cradle of modern Chinese military command. Every place has its historical pride, and Baoding is no exception. The Great Wall history is an indispensable part of Baoding’s historical culture. ✅Tips 📌 For your visit, start by exploring Baoding’s historical stories, as they have the most content and fascinating exhibits. 📌 No reservation is needed for the museum (no peak times). Want to escape Beijing during the Spring Festival but afraid of the crowds? I've already ingrained the travel mantra "Hit popular spots in the off-season, dig for hidden gems in peak season" into my travel DNA 😂 This selection strategy has been personally tested and is super reliable, sharing it with those of you who also want to avoid crowds! 🧠 My logic for selecting off-the-beaten-path destinations 1. Check hotel price increases Look up prices one month in advance; if the price difference between peak and off-peak seasons is less than 30%, you can basically avoid large crowds. 2. Look at historical heritage Places with wealthy ancestors or ancient buildings/artifacts won’t be boring, no matter how off the beaten path they are. This Spring Festival, I locked in: Beijing → Quyang → Dingzhou → Zhuozhou for a 3-day self-drive trip Test results: Almost no one at paid attractions, some spots felt like we had the place to ourselves! Only had to wait a bit for meals (many restaurants closed during Spring Festival), overall experience was excellent 👍 📅 Day 1 Beijing → Quyang → Dingzhou ✅ Quyang, Hebei 🌟 Beiyue Temple & Xiude Temple Pagoda|⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended 🅿️ Parking: Ground parking lot on the west side of Beiyue Temple South Gate · Beiyue Temple: Houses the largest surviving Yuan Dynasty wooden structure in China The Denning Hall has the same double-eaved hip roof style as the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City, very high standard! Inside is a legendary giant mural painted by Wu Daozi (under renovation when we visited, so we couldn’t see it 😭) There are many stone inscriptions, several related to Su Shi, a delight for history buffs. · Xiude Temple Pagoda: 5-minute walk away Built in the Sui Dynasty, the existing structure is original from the Song Dynasty The lower half is a flower-shaped pagoda, the upper half is a pavilion-style brick pagoda, a unique design standing alone in the fields with an amazing atmosphere. 🍽️ Dining Heiguinü Dumplings was closed for Spring Festival, so we went to the neighboring Qingxiangyuan Home-style dishes tasted great, portions were huge, remember to order fewer dishes based on the number of people. ✅ Dingzhou Tip: Single tickets for Dingzhou attractions are relatively expensive; buying the five-attraction combo pass is the best deal. 🅿️ Parking: Zhongtian Plaza underground parking, walking to attractions is more convenient. 🌟 Dadaoguan Yuhuang Temple|⭐⭐⭐ A spot that impresses you right at the entrance, then it’s over. The Yuhuang Hall is original from the Ming Dynasty, with authentic dougong brackets, sparrow tail rafters, and angled backs. The four walls have Ming Dynasty Wanli period plaster and gold leaf murals, though preservation is average, which is a pity. 🌟 Beizhuangzi Han Tomb Stone Carving Museum (Zhongshan Han Tomb)|⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tomb of Liu Yan, King of Zhongshan in the Eastern Han Dynasty (son of Liu Xiu), nearly 2000 years old. You can go down into the tomb chamber and see the yellow intestine burial system firsthand, a very immersive experience. Outside there is a stele gallery with hundreds of yellow intestine stones, very high density of cultural relics. 🍽️ Dining Dawafang Folk Cuisine Jujube pancakes and braised big bones are the signature dishes, flavors are reliable, portions still large. Again: order fewer dishes based on the number of people to avoid waste and mistakes.

This is the right way to travel during holidays! "Challenge popular cities in the off-season, discover hidden gems in the peak season" is already engraved in travelers' DNA 😂 Want to escape Beijing during the holidays but hate crowds? I zoomed in and out of the digital map countless times and finally found some overlooked gems reachable by self-drive! Sharing my secret selection strategy: 1. Check hotel price increases If the price difference between off-season and peak season is less than 30% when checked a month in advance → definitely fewer people 2. Look at historical heritage Places where ancestors were once "wealthy" won’t be boring no matter how off the beaten path This Spring Festival’s real test: Quyang + Dingzhou + Zhuozhou three-day trip Except for occasional queues at restaurants (many closed during Spring Festival), almost no one at paid attractions! Some places felt like private tours, even locals praised how fun it was 👍 D1 Beijing → Quyang → Dingzhou ✅ Quyang 🌟 Beiyue Temple & Xiude Temple Pagoda|Highly recommended with five stars 🅿️ Parking: Ground parking lot on the west side of Beiyue Temple South Gate Beiyue Temple houses the largest surviving wooden structure from the Yuan Dynasty in China The Dening Hall has the same double-eaved hip roof as the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City, with very high standards There’s also a millennium-old mural attributed to Wu Daozi (unfortunately under renovation and not open 😢) The courtyard is full of stone carvings and steles, many related to Su Dongpo, a delight for history buffs! A 5-minute walk from the temple is Xiude Temple Pagoda Built in the Sui Dynasty, preserved from the Song Dynasty The lower half is a flower-shaped pagoda, the upper half is a pavilion-style brick tower, a unique design Standing alone in the fields, the atmosphere is perfect for photos 📸 🍽️ Food Heiguinü Dumplings were closed for Spring Festival Went to the nearby Qingxiangyuan Home-style Cuisine Tastes great, portions huge, remember to order less per person! ✅ Dingzhou Tips: Single tickets for Dingzhou attractions are expensive, the five-attraction combo ticket is the best deal 🅿️ Parking: Zhongtian Plaza underground parking, very convenient for walking to attractions 🌟 Dadaoguan Jade Emperor Hall|Included in combo ticket · Three stars Stunning at first sight Well-preserved Ming Dynasty architectural style: dougong brackets, sparrow tail rafters, and ridge decorations are all impressive The four walls have Ming Wanli period gold-leaf murals showing gods worshipping, very grand Unfortunately, preservation is average, a bit of a pity 🌟 Beizhuangzi Han Tomb Stone Carving Museum (Zhongshan Han Tomb)|Included in combo ticket · Four stars Tomb of Liu Yan, King of Zhongshan in the Eastern Han Dynasty (son of Liu Xiu), nearly 2,000 years old You can enter the tomb chamber and see the Huangchang burial system up close Outside there’s a stele gallery and hundreds of Huangchang stones, full of historical atmosphere 🍽️ Food Dawafang Folk Cuisine Jujube cakes and braised big bones are the specialties Portions still huge, continue to order less! Overall Experience Few people, peaceful, informative, no traffic jams, no queues Truly allows you to leisurely visit ancient sites even during holidays Perfect for friends who love history, ancient architecture, and want to avoid crowds!

🎉Baoding's history dates back to the Yin and Shang dynasties. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the capitals of the Yan and Zhongshan states were located within Baoding. The artifacts and historical sites unearthed in Baoding are all renowned. Among the eight major Liao dynasty structures, Baoding has two. The artifacts excavated from the Mancheng Han tombs are stunningly impressive. Quyang, formerly the Northern Yue, still has the Beiyue Temple, Quyang stone carvings, and the Ding kiln, one of the five famous kilns. Dingzhou, a county-level city, boasts nine national treasures, and the Dingzhou Museum is even a national first-class museum. The Qing Western Tombs are also located within Baoding. The current crown jewel is the Eastern Han bronze horse, excavated from the Xushui Fangling Han tomb. Its joyful design is quite charming, possessing extremely high artistic and historical value as a national first-class cultural relic. "Baoding Memories" showcases intangible cultural heritage projects with regional characteristics. The sound of bangzi opera rises as you enjoy the stage performance; the melodious sheng and pipes carry a century of elegance. Various musical instruments and martial arts are endlessly and brilliantly performed. The exquisite Beijing embroidery demonstrates needlepoint artistry, Ding porcelain craftsmanship blooms with a millennium of charm; Quyang stone carving is a meeting of strength and beauty; a small Yishui inkstone tells the timeless tales of the Yan and Zhao lands... These are Baoding’s masterful crafts. Zhili official cuisine cooking techniques, Liu Ling drunken wine brewing, Anguo medicinal cuisine, Huaimao pickles, and more are the tastes of memory, intangible heritage on the plate. 【Professional Esports Equipment】 We are equipped with top-tier esports computers, high-speed internet, and high-definition large-screen monitors, fully loaded configurations.
