It is a Shikinaisha (shrine within the Imperial Court) and was formerly ranked as a Kokuhei-chusha (middle-ranking shrine). It is currently a beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. It is one of the famous shrines in the Kanto region, and attracts approximately 2 million visitors per year. It is the second most visited shrine in Kanagawa Prefecture for New Year's worship, after Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura City.
