I arrived at 08:10 (paid €6 at the upper gate, card ok), walked down the wooden staircases before the tour buses, and counted the viewing platforms: 1 is for photos, 4 is for the rainbow mist, 7 ends at the Black Forest Museum (skip it, €8 and tired). Then I drove 6 km to Schonach im Schwarzwald to see the "world’s largest cuckoo clock"—a 15 m tall house where the door swings open and a 4 m cuckoo calls on the hour. Entry to the gift shop is free; the clock show is outside, no ticket. I bought a smoked trout sandwich at the adjacent hut (€6, cash) and watched the mechanism from the balcony—it’s gloriously ridiculous. Mistake: parking at Triberg lower lot (€4/hr) instead of the upper lot (€2/day, 200 m walk). Another: I tried to walk Triberg–Schonach on the "Große Hansjakobweg"—it’s 18 km, not the 6 km I misread. This is an attraction well k own in the town of schonach where it was built in 1994 and even had a Guinness book of records. Its so big, that you can even walk inside of this moving workable clock where you will see its movement inside. Also, as a cuckoo clock it will chime, and it will if you wait every 30mins. An entrance fee is required for this since its an attraction and tours also will be offered in several languages.
