We started our trip from Munich by buying the "Bavarian Ticket," a great value one-day pass, from the station's automatic ticket machine! This ticket is fantastic because the price gets cheaper the more people you travel with, so we, a group of three, were able to save a lot on transportation costs (highly recommended!) ✌️ The train ride from Munich was a bumpy 2 to 2.5 hours each way. Enjoying the scenery from the window, we arrived in Füssen, close to the Austrian border. From there, we transferred to a bus for about 15 minutes to reach the foot of the castle. For getting to the castle after getting off the bus, we chose the shuttle bus without hesitation 🚌 (3.5€ one way, cash required!) After getting off the shuttle bus and walking for about 5 minutes... There it was, the castle we'd been seeing in pictures! The view from the Marienbrücke (Marien Bridge) was so breathtakingly beautiful that I was speechless and overwhelmed with emotion 🥺✨ (It's quite high up and the suspension bridge sways in strong winds, so those with a fear of heights need to be prepared! lol) From there, it was another 10-minute uphill climb. The castle, seen up close, was simply massive and overwhelmingly beautiful! I later learned that the construction had only been completed last year, and the exterior walls and surrounding area were sparkling clean and meticulously maintained. As with my usual whirlwind trips, I didn't go inside the castle, instead focusing on capturing tons of photos of the exterior 📸 lol On the way back, I leisurely walked down the hill and returned from Füssen to Munich. Actually, this trip continued even after returning to Munich 💡 The Bayern Ticket allowed unlimited rides on city trains and trams, so it was incredibly useful for going shopping and heading to restaurants for dinner! Day 1: December 13 - Straight to Neuschwanstein Castle, A Fairytale Castle Experience We landed at Munich Airport around 7 AM, picked up our luggage, and took the Lufthansa bus directly to Munich Central Station (tickets purchased online in advance, about a 40-minute ride). Our hotel, Sure Hotel by Best Western München Hauptbahnhof, was conveniently close to the station. After dropping off our luggage, we grabbed a quick breakfast. Then, we headed straight to Neuschwanstein Castle! Using the Bayern Ticket (€42 for two people, purchased with cash at the station), we traveled from Munich Central to Füssen station. Our hotel, Wyndham Grand Salzburg Conference Centre, was our first stop to drop off our luggage before heading out for breakfast. We explored the city on foot, visiting Mirabell Gardens, Mozart's Birthplace, and Hohensalzburg Fortress. We took the funicular up to the fortress (€29 for two people). From the observation decks, we enjoyed panoramic views of Salzburg and its surroundings. The Christmas market at the top was a delightful surprise, and a bonus: free restrooms (a travel essential, haha)! The scenic route passed through snow-dusted villages, so beautiful we couldn't bear to sleep!
